This is extremely amazing i saw this a while back and voted for you congrats on placing, Have you ever heard of the anime Air Gear? If you know what air treks are i bet that you can defiantly pull off making a pair of them.
@T3hTroll Thanks! That's a good question. I would say...I was mostly inspired by the engineering environment at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. When you see what all the engineering students are working on, you begin to truly appreciate what Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw once said:
You see things; and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and I say, "Why not?"
It's no wonder why our alumni are extraordinary: tinyurlDOTcom/crjgeyf
@werty2u Oh right! So it cost quite a bit, under $1,000 to be exact. This is because of the technology that I utilized. Lithium Iron Phosphate: $400, Brushless Motor: $90, Brushless Motor Controller: $120, board on eBay: $180, and all that adds up.
@russianasdfg Well I used an Arduino Duemilanouve so it uses the ATmega328 AVR chip. The Arduino library and the programmer itself makes it very easy to program compared to a PIC. hackaday.com has lots of projects that involve this kind of stuff too, just in case you are interested.
I know you've heard a lot of this, but it would really be appreciated if you described how you built the board, like an instructable or so. I, like many others, are inspired by your project and want to create something like it. Also, what is the total cost for the mountainboard and each controller?
@werty2u I will do so! I'll start setting up a projects page on my website and then have the details in there. I'll be back at the university around the 16th, but I can definitely have a structure done right now. Thanks for the comment; it's about time I do it lol Thanks for the compliments too :) I'm glad this has inspired people to go out and do whatever projects they can imagine.
Hey I support you invention 100%, awesome job. I 'll be sure to vote everyday and spread your video. Also proud to say my name is Sisto Guzman, nice to know people are doing the name Guzman proud, much luck cuz. peace.
Lots of people are clamoring for documentation - sharing is caring! The main reason is that there are many people who would love to learn things that you may take for granted, or you may have learned by building this thing that you may not realize.
I'm very curious about the use of the op-amp to make the flex sensor more stable. I've had stability issues with several kinds of sensors, and didn't realize the current may be the problem. Have a schematic?
@Jason90123 Hey Jason! You're right, and I have been answering people's inquiries with messages. However, I do get some of the same questions so yeah I'll make it public. Right around the same time you sent the message, I got an email from a website wanting me to explain the fine details. So pretty soon, everyone will know exactly what I did, how I did it, and for what reasons. I'll let you know when I get it all done (which should be by the end of the month).
@Jason90123 Hey! I made an instructables page and you can see it on the description box! Hmm oh now that I see your comment on the op-amp, the schematic actually comes with the flex sensor on how to do that. I should include that too; I forgot about that question.
@duckythescientist Hmmm...you mean details like what kind of battery, motor controller, microcontroller, transceiver, etc that I used? Or details regarding the structure like the way the motor is mounted? With regards to driving the board, it only runs on one wheel. I thought about using a differential, but to make them the size that I needed and having that mounted on the board, all of that just seemed like a hassle. Having it drive one of the backwheels worked out pretty well for me.

The major drawback i see with this set up is, when you wipe out, and you will, you will destroy the glove when you put your hand down!!
