I would recommend EagleCAD if you will be drawing circuity. It is a feeware and NC compatible. You could also try to download a trial version of autocad or buy a student version at a lower price.

Thanks for these they are a lifesaver! i am annotating a drawring ising the mtext fuction in layout 1 and halfway through and i cant select the text anymore and when i move my drawring the text no longer moves with the drawing, the same thing happens when i zoom, any ideas how i can stop that happening? hope that makes sense!

I think you can change the background under the "render" command.

i've had a similar problem as well. here are the steps:

1. right-click in the Command window.

2. Options . . .

a dialog box will pop up.

3. in the Display tab under Window Elements, click Colors . . .

4. a new dialog box will pop up again. click Command Line in the Context: box.

now you'll have options to change the background and text color by selecting them in the Interface Element: box. the Color: box will be right next to it where you can change colors.

5. Apply/Close.

6. OK.

you have to change your drawing units.

1. type in UNITS in the Command Line.

2. a dialog box will pop up. in the Length box and where it shows Type:, click the drop-down arrow which will list what kinds of unit you want to use.

I'm trying to enter a square by typing.

I type 0,0 [space] for the first point

10,0 [space] for the second point

But when i type in 10,10 [space] for the top right corner, it moves 10 in the x direction and 10 in the y direction from the previous point (and not the point 10,10).

The parameters for the rectangle command are a) location of first corner b) size of rectangle (not location of second corner); which automatically makes it a relative coordinate.

the only workaround is to draw a line using your absolute coordinates then draw a rectangle using the endpoint osnaps and then erase the line

Or you could enter the command rec, select you start point as prompted in the command bar, then type d (for dimensions) and enter the size that you want the rectangle or square. A lot quicker doing it that way than any other.

type 'toolbar' in the command line, that will launch the toolbar dialog which allows you to select which toolbars you want to display.

hi !! i have 2007, but i think this will work for 2008 as well.

to get other toolbars to show up:

1. right-click on ANY command in the top menu toolbar like Save.

2. a long list of available toolbars will pop up.

the ones already on screen are marked with a check, so you can check the toolbars you would like.

a toolbar will pop up in the screen which you can move to the either ends or top of the screen.

repeat these steps as necessary.

for just basic 2d drawings, i suggest you pick these toolbars - some can also be found in the top menu bar - :

Draw, Draw Order, Layers, Modify, Properties, Standard, Styles, and Workspaces.

after you've placed the toolbars the way you like, i recommend Locking - repeat steps 1 and 2 and at the bottom of the list - Lock Location - All - Locked - b/c sometimes the toolbars can move around or get deleted when clicking commands.
