  • wstf????

  • Linux Stickers Here

google -> redbubble rob brown stickers

  • @KKKSuperFan its called a theme

  • can i get the cool effect when somthing pops up on my xp???

  • can i run with windows xp?

  • @chugole Of course ! xD

  • @chugole Ahh no, you can't ^_^U but you have a lot of other progs like True Transparency, Windows Blinds, Über Icon, etc...

  • Muito bom!!

  • why pay for sub-standard crap? just dl linux

  • I've been running Linux for about 4 years now. After numerous distros I have to say that debian is the best I've one that I have ever used. I find it much more stable than Ubuntu.

  • why would ppl whine so much on Linux? aren't they forgetting one thing....? IT'S FREE, YOU IDIOTS, what do you expect? make your own OS then!

  • *Linux from Scratch. But god I love linux.

  • Linux only.

  • omg where can i download this!?!?

  • hahahahaha

  • lmgtfyDOTcom/?q=compiz+fusion+beryl+gnome

  • good vedio

  • to hororian comment: this crap is integrated in operating system, same as windows aero, dont talk shit.

about wine - with lots of games (mostly dx10) there are many problems, some games wont run anyway. I am passionate COD4 player, but in wine multiplayer does NOT work. wine is freakíng good. if you look what can linux programers do without official drivers, emulating DX, insane. I apricciate their work so much, but still, everything (mostly) is made for Windows.

  • Well if you mean almost all games are for Windows, than yeah, you're right. but a lot of other apps are cross platform. I use gaming for Windows and have a Linux partition for everything else =]

The only reason games suck for Linux is because they aren't native to it though. if they made them native for Linux and they ran on OpenGL 2.* it would be a pretty cool gaming platform too. There is a rumor that steam is porting their stuff to Linux, but it's only a rumor... Would be cool nevertheless.

  • I'm just saying that linux is not primarily made for that things. Only thing that i would like to see on ubuntu is Windows 7's touch screen, but i don't say i would use it.

  • This is wasting of valuable system resources! Linux is not made for this crap.

  • Stop whining, look at his system specs in the video description. He's not making sacrifices here.

  • Oh God, the people who go crazy over Linux are nooby Linux users. Only true warriros like me who have used Unix-like os's like freebsd, Linux, know them actually, and don't go screaming at Windows users. Because both are good at different things. Saying one is better than the other is just wrong. Of course Unix-like users are usually much smarter, if they continuously use it for years, not fucking 1 week to one month.

  • wow thanks for saying that.

im a windows user, now i have all mac, debian and os x on my macbook. they are all good OSs.

but i still like win 7 pro the best lol.

  • I'm guessing that if I told you I just started using Linux this year and I've only used Mandriva and Ubuntu, you'll give me a lecture on why I should man up and use Slackware.

  • @RenegadeFury I agree, and, after all, It is just an OS, let it go, have a life ^^

  • @RenegadeFury Mah boi, this Unix is what all true warriors strive for

    (... just had to, sorry)

  • @adrianmalacoda xD Zelda CDi

  • I really link Linux, but im a gamer...99.999% of the games are not compatible with Linux /sadpanda...so im stuck with Windows. And yes, could could put Windows in a virtual machine or have a partition with it for games...but the truth its that i dont have the hardware to do it (mainly because i play heavy games and i dont have much hard drive left =P lol)

  • you can play windows games on linux using wine

  • use wine... dont need soo much ram ;)

  • WTF is this? Is this desktop for work? I seems like cartoon film...

I looks pretty but, COMPLETELY unused, useless etc.

    1.xterm

    2.screen

    4.vim

    enybody need something else? :)

  • First question should be: What have you reached in your life...if the answer has something to do with computers, than the second question will be: what for an operating system do you use...if the answer is windows...it's ok. But the most answer will be linux or other systems...I'm sure....

  • this video was made for demonstration, I do not use those effects (beside the fact, that the video is more than 3yrs old - back then these visuals were stunning).

anyway, I wonder how to wrote this comment using xterm, screen and vim... .P (and please stop those elite-linux-everything-else-is-bullshit posts)

  • I wrote this comment using firefox. If you try look again at my last comment, you will see (or not :P) that there ONE point is missing. 3'th point. It was firefox working on light window manager (Xserwer + sawfish). I deleted this by mistake - sh* heppens.

  • @germanize83

So, If you don't use these effects, why do you admire it? "artistry for artistry"?

Such complicated desktops don't add new things for communication between human and maschines and it could be very frustrated.

  • Like I said, when i recorded the video, operating systems look like windows xp. I am a software engineer, I spend most of my time in front of the screen, bit of nice looking UI is not that bad.

Today (4 years later) these effects are nothing special, i do not "admire" them, i do not use theme, but its still nice to see linux doing some magic while windows was lokking like good old dosshell :P

  • @germanize83 back then? shit ubuntu and these other distros STILL look stunning compared to whats on the market. microsoft and apple need to pull there heads out of there asses and look toward ubuntu for answers.when you can run realy good graphics on a shit tastic rig but you cant with windows or apple somethings wrong.

  • @artilekt

hum, I am thinking of ooo, evolution ekiga and many others... but if you use your pc only for bashing, that's your choice. On another hands, this kind of "enhancement" allows us to answer windows users: Hey, we don't, but we can have a pretty desktop. Linux is not difficult to learn, and is as powerfull as windows... This is not just for bash-loving-nerds!

  • @poxtra102

I use computer at work for earn money (there is linux) and my home computer (winXP) as private office. Play? I prefer play with my girlfriend in other games. :)

Such complicated desktops are good for humbug people, who like gloryfy dead things.

The gteatest advantage of system linux is its simplicity - such desktops kill this clever idea.

  • What is that--Kore Suite?

    I wanna know. I

  • how and where can i get stuff like tht?

  • wtf thats a backtrack3 wallpaper on ubuntu!!

    shame on you!!!

  • thats not ubuntu, read description, shame on you :P

  • @germanize83 but the dragon wallpaper is the icon to backtrack3... yet another operating system, so the shame is still upon you dude.

  • @drunktubz323 whats funny is that dragon wallpapper is my tat.

  • Awesome I'll change to Linux right now, XP sucks

  • Lul, do you regret it yet?

  • @OTstmnt YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!! xp rocks, but linux is still cool. :P

How did the switch go, did you ever do it?

  • @OTstmnt Xp didnt suck, It was the best of microsoft! windows seven is now.. But I am a Debian fan myself, I wish to try Mint. How did the switch go? did you ever do it?

  • @OTstmnt xp 4 life

  • what site can you find out how to do all of the stuff you can do with ubuntu?

  • SWEETNESS

    thankyou!!!

  • What dock do you use? because that doesn't look like AWN and to be honest I think AWN pretty much sucks... =/

  • GNOME Do, i don't know if is the one he is using, but you shoud give a try ;)

    [ The docky interface rocks]

  • resolution ? (desktop)

  • What I love about ubuntu or any linux is that you can start working as soon as the comp boots up, which is something u cant really do in any version of windows

  • can u tell me how u put the icon on top of the destop?

  • Well that was Lagtastic.

  • rockin the backtrack

and wut up with the ubuntu symbol in the corner?

  • Really nice but that's a backtrack wallpaper.

  • reali cool

  • damn looks realy awesome

  • linux rulez!!

  • which one is better? Debian or Ubuntu. and by better i mean the one that comes to MOST COMPLETE with all the essential packeges and everything?

  • Ubuntu is nothing more than a bugged version of Debian, seriously, its only popular because of the heavy marketing, but the distro itself its a piece of "non-friendly" bugged shit.

If you want a "easy to use" distro, get SuSe or Mandriva. If you wish a good distro get Debian.

  • You're saying Ubungu it "bugged shit" and at the same time you're implying SuSe isn't? SuSe is as heavy as windows and crashes at the same rate, if I wanted Something like windows, I'd get windows

Its true, if you want a real distro, there's Debian, Mandriva, Fedora, slackware, Gentoo, probably a lot of them better than Ubuntu. That's if you know how to use the linux CLI or shell/bash. I prefer Fedora on top of everything, but I don't think Ubuntu is "bugged shit." To me that would be Suse.

  • wtf are you smoking buddy, ubuntu 9.04 is the linux to get for newbs.

ubuntu + flash + restricted extras and your done.

  • For a normal user, ubuntu stills hard to use, install aplications and make it work.

Think, the mother of your friend, who uses word and do all the normal things a user does... she will never understand ubuntu

  • really..... cause my grandmother has ubuntu and my mom does, they know how to use it. Word is out of date my friend. Everyone i know uses Openoffice Writer its better and easy and its free. Ubuntu is easy to use, im a normal user and it was easy.

  • most of it is easy until u get to the drivers for wireless its a pain to do the stuff

  • they fixed most of the problems with wireless. My Sony had wireless problems with the new version everything works.

  • im guessing you've never tried ubuntu >.>

  • Man, i used ubuntu, and lots of linux's distros.

But come on, it's stills so hard to use with a GNOME Environment

  • Cual es mejor visualmente debian o ubuntu?

  • both use a gnome desktop and beryl (it is called compiz now)

Gnome and compiz will run on any Linux system.

  • dude, is this ubuntu, or did you install packages from ubuntu?

KaedanIR: set the window manager to "emerald", in compizconfig settings manager/window decoration (where it says /usr/bin/compiz-decorator)

  • awesome! it totally need this

  • This is fucking awesome! I didnt know Linux could do this. This looks just like what Vista is offering only without the huge price tag.

  • You're absolutely right. "the wow starts now"?

Microsoft has been a bit distracted, all Vista offered as "new" and "wow" was already happening both on OS X and Linux.

  • I have just installed this OS.. But cant f**king use it. When it boots up my monitor goes black and "Cannot Display this Video Mode" appears! -_-! Any help would be much appreciated, i cant seem to find much of it online. ( Nothing related )

  • what os? ^^

  • Debian Lenny

  • KaedanIR When that comes up, just keep pushing "ctrl + alt + backspace" and crashing GDM (Gnome Display Manager), or alt + F1 if you wanna take the quick route out. After it's crashed enough/killed it'll bring you to CLI, where you can login as root and issue "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg". If you have any other issues send me a message on here and I'll give you a complete walk through. I've used Debian since 3.1, I know it like the back of my hand.

  • I managed to fix it by using another monitor , then installing nVidia drivers and then the other monitor was supported. Im now enjoying a very fast OS :) thanks for the reply though :)

  • Not a problem, if you need anything else don't be afraid to ask, most of us aren't afraid to lend a helping hang. :P

  • Any tips on gettting Emerald working in Debian lenny?

  • No clue. I used fluxbox while I was on Debian, and fluxbox again on Slackware 12.2. I was never into the fancy desktop effects.

  • Hi...great Desktok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wher can iget it....or send a link to the software mfg

  • hey can you tell me where you got that wallpaper??

  • description------>

  • yea having more than 1 desktop helps :) and i can just leave alot of things open in linux b/c they dont even take up alot of resources :-/

  • i'm lovin it :) i guess this will replace osx on my pbook g4 :)

whats the name of this awesome theme?

  • Ubuntu

  • I love Linux, infact if I only have 1 Windows PC (Just to play games) over 3 Linux Computers

  • oh ,the wallpaper

  • Linux always makes me smile :) I love linux.

I have ubuntu, Red Hat Fedora, and some other distros. Including an all text based one that I used to run on a partitioned windows 95 PC. lol

  • did you try damn small linux?

it runs on almost every pc and it has a gui.

  • I'm happy with my Vista though, but if not for gaming and due to application compatible. I would already installed with my PC for age. It's look amazing.

  • Should I download all the 4 DVD packages to install debian 4.0 ?

    Thanks.

  • No, you can just download 1 CDimage, or the NetInstall.

  • out of all the linux distros what is the most regularly updated distro, i like updates ;D. reply

  • what os is this.. im pretty sure its not windows : O

  • It's Linux, more specifically debian running the gnome desktop. Try ubuntu :)

  • lol, i realised, i have always heard of linux but never really dug into it. i am happy with what i saw on the live cd and installing ubuntu over by **** vista tomorrow ^^

  • Congratulations on making a good choice ^^, if you have any problems feel free to PM me :)

(although the linux support in general is just amazing)

  • im using a comopaq and i have windows xp

  • Why is the Ubuntu logo in the lower left?

This is supposed to be Debian, right?

  • Ubuntu is based on Debian...

  • Debian sucks for home, for servers I guess it is fine, but ubuntu is better for home.

  • well... "Debian is the rock upon which Ubuntu is built".

  • Hey can u please help me with doing this?

This is really awesome but idk to much about how to do this stuff

  • Hey may, but the path to earning a system like that is to set it up yourself. Google is your homie.

  • What operating system are you using??

  • Debian is way more geeky than ubuntu.

  • as far as i know, which also want to share with all GNU Linux fellows, the 8.9" mini laptop Yeeloong 8089 is available now in Holland, sold by the lemote distributor: tekmote.

  • I can't decide between debian or gentoo.

  • Debian sin dudarlo!! :D

  • I ended up with ubuntu because Debian couldn't find my Wifi Card. Any other distros recommended. I DONT WANT KDE!

  • Hmmm :(

jajaj me to, i dislike KDE :D

try with Debian Lenny? Lenny está más actualizado. Lenny is more update than Etch.

    Saludos

  • Hmmm I don't know. I mean I already installed Ubuntu 8.10.

  • lol Ubuntu

  • debian is the best :)

  • It's favolous

  • Will this work on an EEE PC/EEE Box?

  • this is ubuntu not debian

  • @ Amrbixfan:

    Read the video info:

"There are a lot of users posting "this is ubuntu" - it's not! The menu icon was part of the default ubuntu icon set I installed before (the new "glassy" icon set does not replace the menu button)."

  • Ubuntu is ripped off Debian.

  • Wrong, Ubuntu is Idiot-friendly Unstable Debian

    lol

  • Shockingly we have the exact same Specs, How did it run.. and is there programs for windows emulation? IF i had a program or game that only had a client for windows how could I fix that..

And uh, all the drivers easy to find?

Overall how did it run, did you play any games?

  • your gdeslkets need some work

  • Linux just ROCKS!!!

    They don't want money

    The OS never freezes

    And there are no viruses

    !!!!!!

    WHY USE WINDOWS?????????????

  • because it's easier to use, you guys just don't get it huh?

  • ease of use... and 2 important things... COMPATIBILITY AND HARDCORE GAMING!

  • there are plugins and programs which allow you to play any game

i can play need for speed pro street and crysis warhead

and there and also plugins and programs which can open every windwos program

  • true i also use linux i use fedora core 9 but i cant say it can replace windows for gameing... this plugins dont work 100% many games wont run and you need half of your life to set it up!

windows is a winner when it comes to games... not stability tho :D

  • if you have a virtual machine like virtual box

you can have windows so you will be able to do whatever you want :)

  • yeh but dual boot is better cause it uses less resource ;)

  • o btw could you help me set up ubuntu with all those fancy effects? i really like that and would like to give a shoot at ubuntu! im not very familiar with ubuntu! and can you run cod 4 on ubuntu? i mean the punkbuster is kinda problematic for linux so with ubuntu would it work?

  • they dont work very well in ubuntu

but they work excellent in debian :)

  • virtual box is too slow

  • yeah but there is also VMware

  • will debian 4.0 work on a ppentium 3

  • Yes, I have it on my old Pentium 3 right now :D

  • Whats better, ubuntu or debian?

  • what back ground is that?

  • backtrack background

  • Awesomeness and Amazing!!!!!

  • Ubuntu is based on Debian, but let's never let a misinformed opinion get in the way of the facts.

  • Nice

  • In the words of Chris... "all your dreams are dead"

Beryl, Compiz and Compiz Fusion all work with minimal RAM usage. I never exceed 22% RAM usage no matter how many desktop effects I have switched on.

  • "Look, Dad! I'm wasting your precious money and my precious time bitching on the internet about things I don't even understand! I'm more worthless than Vista :D"

Linux is the most efficient OS out there. Do not believe? Check out what OS the Roadrunner (the fastest computer to date) is running. Hint: It ain't Windows.

  • I'm switching from Ubuntu to Debian.

  • Is Debian better than ubuntu?

  • YES, ubuntu is bad, I don't know why it's so popular, almost al distro's of linux are better theh ubuntu.

  • Its best opinion for Windows users.

Very very easy to install and to configure.

  • you mean debian or ubuntu? 'cause I think debian is very easy to install aswell and it's better to work with.

  • I meant on ubuntu.

    It isn't bad.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy and Fedora 8, both are good.

I tried Slackware, many Ubuntu variants, PCLOS etc.

And I am thinking to switch on Debian (or Slackware). Ubuntu is good, but I want now something more complicated.

  • Dose anyone know if it can be run on a windows OS if so PM me with details thank you

  • Originally can't. There are programs that does the cube but it just sucks dick compared to Beryl (Compiz Fuzion)

  • hey where can i download this ??

  • where can i get that wallpapper

  • Search for Backtrack, it is the wall paper from the Linux Backtrack OS.

  • wonderful!

  • where can this download???????????????????

  • NICE I prefer openSuSE, though. =)

  • where did u get the wallpaper?

  • how much linux cost???

  • Linux is Free. Just google the version you want and viola.

  • free

  • liniix is also NOT an easy OS. dont expect every thing to work on a dime you need to know what your doing...or at least be willing to spend alot of time on it to learn...work through it...it worth it
