It is interesting that people assume arraigned marriages are only in non-western countries, or by people from these countries. But my family is American for many generations, and my parents are arraigning a marriage for my sister to a dude who is twice her age. They are members of a very conservative ( 'Christian' ) group. I wish I could do something :((

@LibJibber It depends on how different the cultures are, and how drastically different they are in values and customs. There are many undesirable customs that come from less enlightened cultures that we do not need absorbed or tolerated in Western culture. The other side of arranged marriage is FORCED marriage, honor killings for those that don't respect the "arrangements," and limitations on who one can marriage based on another undesirable aspect of Indian culture: the caste system.
