my trumpets slides are stuck would it hurt the tumpet if i put it in water with the slides in im hoping that after washing it the trumpet slides will come out
DO NOT USE WINDEX. the chemicals in windex will eat away at your trumpet's finish. You won't notice it right away, but over time your trumpet will lose the shiny finish.
I can remember a few years ago whilst cleaning a 'mini' Eb tuba in the bath and judging by the amount of 'debris' that came out of it, it seemed like it had 50 years of kebab in it!
Hey, Perhaps you could have your ''instructors'' in your videos wear a minimicrophone? I find it hard to listen on my PC. I have to turn my volume up to max on the video and my PC itself.
a video on how to reassemble would be good for beginners as well, because theres loooaads of ways you can get it wrong with slide grease in the wrong places.
Good video. Wish I'd watched this when I first learned to play the trumpet. There were some things I shouldn't have done and learned from...like the hot water. Poor blessing trumpet. D:
nice Bill! Thanks for posting this. I just got a dirty older Blessing Scholastic and rather than dropping a hundred plus on the music store I'll do the job myself with a thirty dollar kit to rebuild the valves and your instructions for the actual cleaning. nicely done!
Who said it was a woodwind instrument? Bill never said that, and the info says just wind, not woodwind. The trumpet IS a wind instrument. If you didn't know that, then don't call the trumpet your favorite instrument. If you are referring to something else, then I don't see it.
he said wind not wood wind and mabey u need to check the info before u go cridsing ppl i play the trumpet to so i know what it is oh and im the best so watch out kid!
@zippers787 He never said woodwind, he said wind. A brass instrument IS a wind instrument, because it uses wind. Please go back to kindergarden, you illiterate fuck.
Thanks, Bill. I recently bought a used Strad, and have just cleaned it using your video as my guide. Man, it really needed the cleaning!
Without your guide, I'd have done it all wrong, of course. I'm 53 yrs old - have played trpt for 42 yrs - and NEVER was shown the proper way to clean the many trumpets I have owned over the decades.
The Strad plays like a dream now, thanks to your advice!
ive been playing trumpet 3 yrs now and every time I cleaned it I didnt know you were supposed to clean the slides. I also cleaned it in hot water every time. I always thought that some of the lacqer came off from the oil on my hands. well I have to go clean it now. (MAN THAT THING MUST BE FILTHY!!!)
If only i could do this for my saxophone :(

How often shall i clean my trumpet like this?
Roflb0t 6 months ago
Don't use a paper towel. Use a soft cloth/towel. Paper towels are made of wood, and wood scratches(if that's all you got, be gentle).
boo3740 8 months ago
Don't use chemicals. None. Just shine it up with some elbow grease and clean out the insides as much as you can. Then grease it and oil it and play.
Note: Ever try to clean an instrument after marching season? It'll take a long time! :)
ChelseCreek84 9 months ago
is it safe to use windex to just shine the trumpet when it's clean?
like i used it before it didnt hurt it then but over time will it?

Why can't you use the trumpet snake for the valve tube things?
TheBadness98 11 months ago
Because they are too big and the snake won't scrape gunk off the sides. It isn't wide enough.

Scrubbing with the hard bristle brush may compromise the trumpet on a long term basis at the microscopic level.
NancyDaAC 1 year ago
paper towel will scratch the trumpet
WELLBRAN 1 year ago
have u heard the new theory that those brushes scratch the inside of the trumpet and slightly alters the sound over time. great video though :)

A WIND instrument is an instrument that you use air to make sound. Brass and Woodwinds are just subcategories.
