Whats the difference in using alcohol vs using water soap and dissolved epson salt? Just wondering cause i had to replace the water in my old lava lamp so i used the water/soap/salt method and a have more blobs than usual.

@nmarine1057 too much soap..any more and your wax would disintegrate altogether. no soap at all and you get one big blob..the uploader here says he used alcohol which is less dense than water...so the wax will sink in it already without having to add chlorinated chemicals like they used to because they are hard to get hold of being banned almost everywhere.

problem is though his lava lamp is highly flammable. unlike the original solution.

@MrDjSeamless325 Actualy I went to a craft store bought wax and oil pastels. Then I went to a drug store and bought Alchol took them put them in a SOBE and heated them up. And what you see in the video the result.

@MrDjSeamless325 no it is not.the original wax is parafin wax with a little beeswax to make it slightly thicker , added to this was a chemical called carbon tetrachloride, this made the wax more dense so it sinks in water not float. then the solution is a simple salin solution. detergent stop the wax sticking to the bottle and also to help it pull apart. more soap more blobs less soap bigger blob. the carbon tet is now banned worldwide and IS CANCEROUS SO DO NOT INHALE VAPOUR FROM A WARM LAMP

pour the contents of a real lava lamp into any bottle that's what your seeing.

If you make your base liquid a tiny bit more dense your globs of wax will rise and fall at a more consistent and relatively equal speed to eachother rather than rising quickly and accumulating at the top and meandering down very slowly.

the small Lava bubbles didn't get bigger because the surface tension was too great.

This is easy to fix. By adding a drop or two of dishwashing detergent, theres a chemical in it that lowers the surface tension allowing it to break easier.

With the surface tension lower, the bubbles have an easier time merging with other ones.

That's probably what he did.
