  • Now, there's a car that Jessica Simpson needs to drive!

  • Weren't they just K-Cars with a few extra luxury goodies?

  • Hi, anyone could give me advice and recommendations of use for a new yorker 85, just bought and is well preserved and so I maintain, is speaking, but I want to know what is best for him not to do and attention should be taken of the car

  • Take Care of it and maintain it...these were GREAT cars...and they will ALWAYS Last you with Very little care and maintenance

  • @ramonedesk Congratulations! These New Yorkers are very nice, yet underrated.

For your New Yorker to last, you must take very good care of it! Remember to RELIGIOUSLY maintain your car and keep it garaged/under a carport. Drive your New Yorker gently and carefully, it is of lightweight construction to save weight and fuel. I also recommend looking up the ALLPAR site. It's a fun and useful resource for Chrysler owners.

  • RIP Ricardo Montalban 1920-2008.

A classy, suave gentleman who will be missed.

  • It's funny how EPA fuel economy on older vehicles like this, even with this turbo much better than it is now, I mean considerably better.

I guess today, manufacturers and consumers are power mad, they keep cranking out more HP and increasing the size of engines, which keeps reducing fuel economy.

I know the EPA's rating's are now more conservative, but still a pretty significant difference. Seems to me automakers could do a lot better.

  • I've owner 4 of these small 1980's New Yorkers. A new 1983 , a 1984, a 1986, and a 1987.

35 highway, 25 city was very optimistic. Back in the 80's the speed limit was 55 mph, at 55 mph these cars average 29 highway. In city traffic, 20 mpg.

Average engine sizes haven't increased much compared to 25 years ago, what has increased a lot is vehicle weight.

As for HP you are 100% right.

New Yorker's 2.5 or 2.6 engines had around 101 hp. Today's Camry 2.5 has up to 179 hp.

  • you Bought One New? Sweet! That's when they Redesigned new yorker...83...did yours Have the 2.6l Mitsubishi engine? or 2.2l? was It any good? What Year of New yorker did you Like the Most that you Owned? 1983/84/86/87 ??

  • @jakesaintsrow123 My '83 New Yorker had Mitusbishi's 2.6l. It was parchment white with saddle/chocolate two tone Mark Cross leather. Very nice looking but temperamental without high maintenance.

I loved the color/interior of my '83 but, the '86 with Chrysler's bullet proof EFI 2.5 was the best of them.

With normal maintenance, I drove my '86 New Yorker until it began to fall apart at 350,000 miles.

Even then, the EFI 2.5 engine was strong and still got 27-30 hwy MPG!

  • @NY3UVL714

In Britain this would work out at 35 imperial mpg on the open road, good when you consider the British equivalent of the time, a Ford Granada 2.8 with automatic transmission, would only do 28 imperial mpg if driven carefully. However, we did have the compensations that our maximum speed limit was 70 mph and our emissions controls weren't very stringent, meaning the Granada was faster than a Chrysler New Yorker, although the main downsides being our petrol cost twice as much.

  • My first car was a 1985 Chrysler New Yorker and it kept saying "your electrical system is malfunctioning" over and over. Needless to say I didn't keep it very long.

  • And i thought he couldn't equate the corinthian leather, this is hilarious!

  • My grandfather had one of these and it had the voice chip, and it would say things like your door is ajar, not quite KITT but it was close and I loved it back then!

  • I had one and I loved it, but after a few years I sold it.

  • Why? and was yours a 84? was it new?

  • "your door is ajar"

LOL one of my mom's friends had a gold 83-84 new yorker that talked

  • yep..."your door is ajar"

  • It actually said "Don't forget your keys".

  • Where's the corinthian leather???

  • The turbo had plenty of power my grandma loved her 87 but after about 50,000 miles the turbo gave up and ruined the car.

  • That's why its important to maintain a vehicle properly.

  • Yeah really but that has nothing to do with the turbo they failed routinely at 50,000

  • Did she Still Like it After the Turbo went out?
