Whether or not you "stand up" (who cares), Jim Morrisin is not a "pussy". You couldn't even begin to hold his jock, chump. Your a boy among men.....Suck down your 3 beers and pretent you know what it's like to be drunk like Morrison...
Your right, I don't know your pain. But JIM MORRISON was no pussy! How old are you??? If your over 27 and not dead, then your a pussy! Because Jim morrison was the real deal. Drank....smoked...whatever someone put in front of him he did it. Trust me, i know what I'm talkin'about. zz Get my point, sucker?????
The most disturbing thing about this film is the fact that this is near the exact way my Granddad chose to die. After my grandmother died, basically he drank himself to death.
Cage did a GREAT job acting in this film! His Oscar was well deserved! His best performance by far to date. Let the "haters" watch "WICKER-MAN" till they're heart is content if they want to bash, but get the hell ouuta here.
@RichardElden Because it's art imitating life. It's what a lot of people go through with being an alcoholic. He bought whatever he wanted because nothing in that point of his life mattered. You obviously missed the point of the movie. I'd say re watch it, but then again don't waste your time because you're not even going to watch it with an open mind. Stick to Avatar, Transformers, or Harry Potter. it would be more simplistic for you to understand it seems. You don't have to think watching those
@RichardElden he's not a bad actor he just over reacts which is hilarious. Go roll your self a joint, fill a bong and watch his movies, you'll laugh and end up liking him
@RichardElden I don't think you really have room to call Nicolas Cage ugly because you're probably not what the women are looking for either. As far as you calling him talentless, I would love to see you put up a post re enacting a few scenes from this movie so we all can see how your acting compares it to Nicolas Cage's acting.
@brew667 Say what you will about Cage's acting abilities. You're entitled to your opinion. But some people can drink that amount of alcohol without actually passing out, puking, or dying. Hence why he was going through withdrawal in the movie whenever he ran out of booze.
@tamerswan ...it's strange. whenever I see N.Cage...I see Ben. Ben, are you sober now? To me, that doesn't mean he's one of the best. But this is some great 'catching'. I was 'caught'. Just my opinion. Tame swans... in our dreams.
1:28 Is the best scene ever in Film History. Regardless of reality or not, that requires maximum respect. I have tried to pull that off only ended up puking. One day I will do it.
This is only good movie that I can think of that Nick Cage ever did. It really makes you question whether or not love even exists in American society. It seems like people watch passively while destroy ourselves. Survival of the fittest.
Agree with the latter, disagree with the former. To you he is an "infuriating loser", to me he is REAL. He could be your neighbor or my neighbor, people! Not everyone lives on Sunset Lane with a white picket fence. Wake up! Ben represents the agony of depression. With him, he just ended up drinking himself to death. This isn't "Hollywood", this is reality for many people who are using drugs/alcohol in excess to cope. As for the sax music, I love it, jegs. We could learn a lot.
@Supertramp1966 <I agree, Nicolas Cage is representing real life issues--this is not Hollywood glamor --this is depression and loneliness for many how are doomed. Its a sad state that makes me cried for those how are damed to death with hopelessness. It could be that neighbor, sister, brother, father, mother, son or daughters--anybody--nobody wants to see their loves ones or friends going down this path of destruction.
This has to be THE most depressing movie I've ever seen in my life. I rented this because of Sheryl Crow's song and I thought it was about someone being tired of the dregs on living in Las Vegas and someone gettiing the hope of leaving out of there but it's about someone drinking themselves to death. Sad.
also, I lose even more sympathy when the prick is driving a car in that state, swilling from a bottle. What a tit. He could mow down some innocent pedestrian, such as my 4-year old son. If this happened, I would hunt down the son of a bitch prick who did it and kill him. I don't care what his so-called 'problems' are.
@jegspillerpiano I find Ben's descent not at all jarring because there isn't a hint of self-pity. I think many people also overlook the love story, however incomplete and slightly juvenile it appears at times. As for your assessment of Cage as an actor, I agree to an extent; however, it's clear you haven't seen Adaptation.
I thank god that I can no longer get as drunk as Ben gets. I used to be able to get stupid drunk like him, but due to my tolerance buildup nowadays I just pass out before I reach that point. I'm definitely mentally addicted to alcohol, but I'm glad I'm not physically addicted. I've given up the bottle before, so I know I can do it...but the last time I did it was because of a deployment...
I wish I saw this movie before I tasted my first drink. I'm not as bad as him, partly because I'm blessed enough to pass out before I get super-wasted, but still.
trollmead spits the truth. addiction to alcohol is a powerful thing. addiction is a powerful thing, you buy it, you don't even know why, you just know you should. you go, you buy, you drink. many times after, you don't even remember how you bought it in the first place. You don't remember, the trip, you don't remember the car, you remember nothing. And if you continue going on that path, nothing is what you become. PERIOD.
This is a magnificent film. Hollywood needs to tell more stories like this. "Leaving Las Vegas" may not be for all tastes, but it has a depth and emotional impact that few films can match.
damn i uploaded a scene from this movie 2 years ago...and they removed it because of some nudity (after 1.5 year)...why do you get to keep it? It was the scene with the lap dance next to the pool. Anyway. nice video
For a minute there I thought that stripper was a younger Gwyneth Paltrow. Then I thought, oh no, maybe no. Then I thought, oh well, either way, this is pretty nice.
I had a friend who drank himself to death. The end is awful and was not portrayed in the film. Blood seeps from every orifice and it is a painful death.
Are you desirable? Are you irresistible? Maybe if you drank bourbon with me, it would help. Maybe if you kissed me and I could taste the sting in your mouth it would help. If you drank bourbon with me naked. If you smelled of bourbon as you fucked me, it would help. It would increase my esteem for you. If you spread your legs and you had bourbon dripping from your breasts and your pussy and said "drink here" then I could fall in love with you.
I know what thats like to down a pint when you're already drunk and everything's blank and you can just scream and it's like you aren't making any noise, like you are'nt really there.. I feel this movie, Alcoholism is rough and embarassing
"hey there...Mr errection, you wanna date, you wana date me?" "ookkkayyy...but only because I think the concept of.. surren.......der.....fits...the big picture right now". And the eyes looking at nothing, lol. He is either the best actor I've ever witnessed, or he is pretty hammed!(hammered(drunk)). Either way, I love it!
brilliant film. I can totally relate to ben, being a big drinker myself. and also, the part of this video at 1:32 up until cage sinks the drink and slams it down and then the music stops like a gunshot is one of the most unbelievable and gut wrenching moments of any film I've ever seen.
@miguelangdl life can certainly be hard. I'm not sure if suicide is the best way to end it, or if the best way is just to go somewhere secluded and run away from everything. There sadly is no easy way out.
No, there isn't any "easy way out". But I say.... be true to yourself. We all have our "demons", which is such a cliche these days........So maybe I drink. Maybe my neighbor smokes pot. Bottom line: We're all heading for a long "dirt nap" so live life on your terms and do what you fuckin' want, even if that means drinkin' yourself to death.
Many alcoholics that clean up and "recover" seem to still closely resemble themselves when they were drinking heavily...they are booze-free but still act like addicts: mood swings, depression and boredom. I think alcohol becomes an even bigger problem if you try and eliminate it completely. A life of self-denial is exhausting.
what an awesome movie ! everytime I watch this part I feel like drinking.. Is like when I watch "supersize me" I really feel like eating a big hamburguer... crazy right?
leaving las vegas, fear and loathing in las vegas, requiem for a dream, the basketball diaries its not a joke when it happens to you but i hope you try it and let me know how it works out for you
I am an alcoholic and I am drinking myself to death and I relate to this film so much. It is so sad for the people around you, but once you get caught in the circle, it's very hard to stop.
@fullofhate77 What about Adaptation? Moonstruck? Vampire's Kiss? Weather Man wasn't half bad either. He's always been a good actor, he just has piss poor judgement and likes ridiculously large paychecks.
we live in a soceity that still celebreates drinking..drink a gallon of this and be a man...drink this and be ok after then you are cool...a real man can hold his liquer..all this myth shit needs to be busted..removed out of arts & entertainment..there is no glory in being a drunk only torment and depression for all involved
i know its horrible. to me, its civil to have a handful of drinks to catch a buzz and loosen up at dinner or social gatherings i.e weddings, bbq's, ir even at a bar. But i totally agree, being drunk is not fun for anyone, and its horrible that our government and society accepts it. Its okay to get hammered off Alcohol, but if you smoke a joint, the safer alternative, people are up in arms and your instantly a scumbag. I agree with you. Alcohol CAN be a terrible, terrible thing.
One of the best Nick Cage films that i have ever seen, he was brillant as Ben, great acting they loved each other very much they acted it out so real.
cant believe the author of the book,John O'Brien, killed himself 2 weeks befr the movie got released.Apparently the book was kinda like his suicide note and guess in a way this movie was as well
man society is pretty much set up to make young people into alcoholics...college is one big party...and after college, the only thing to do at night on the weekends is go to places that serve alcohol...well, at least where i live...
Saw this many years after it was released. I've never been an alcoholic. Never been a pro. After watching this, I had the first inkling of an idea about what each one was. From a two hour movie, that is both class direction and class acting. No other movie has come close to achieving the same thing to this extent. Of course, all opinions will vary.
@LoveHeartLogicHead I have been an alcoholic, and the only thing they don't do a great job at is making the watcher understand how bad he feels every day. It's a hangover 100 fold.
Great comment brianwurst1234! People think or tend to, over-romanticise it. Waking in fright with a terrible anxiety and horrendous feelings day-in-day out until you readjust your body with, usually, a few drinks, is a terrible cycle.
Heavens to murgatroid...talk about tipsy! Looks like ol' Nick had one too many vodkas mixed with milk of magnesia...that's otherwise known as a Phillips Screwdriver.
There are only two films about Vegas that are worth watching: Fear & Loathing and this. They are the only two films I know of that don't show up Vegas to be some Disneyland for adults. It's a horrible, filthy place.
@theenforcer1977 help him ,..hi is asking for help ,..put the best of you ,.... if anyway ,...hi lost his soul,..and his life,..you dont gonna get regrets ,!!!
@olivialover75 I have tried so many times. I offered to take him to the hospital and sit by his bed everyday and he said ill be clean inside then ill start once im out again.
That is just fucking crazy to think he does'nt quit after that and just keeps on going. I drink' But damn. I almost don't believe this movie. No human being could consume that much alcohol without dying. I know damn different.

I am an alcoholic and I am drinking myself to death and I relate to this film so much. It is so sad for the people around you, but once you get caught in the circle, it's very hard to stop.

Mike Figgis is so damn underrated, far too unknown.

This is the only movie that stands in the way of me calling Nick Cage a hack.

@fullofhate77
Raisin Arizona
Kick Ass
Matchstick Men
He was really good in those as well. I haven't seen that one Kaufman movie, but I heard that it was good as well.
chukmaty 10 months ago
@fullofhate77 What about Adaptation? Moonstruck? Vampire's Kiss? Weather Man wasn't half bad either. He's always been a good actor, he just has piss poor judgement and likes ridiculously large paychecks.

we live in a soceity that still celebreates drinking..drink a gallon of this and be a man...drink this and be ok after then you are cool...a real man can hold his liquer..all this myth shit needs to be busted..removed out of arts & entertainment..there is no glory in being a drunk only torment and depression for all involved
sprintbass 1 year ago
i know its horrible. to me, its civil to have a handful of drinks to catch a buzz and loosen up at dinner or social gatherings i.e weddings, bbq's, ir even at a bar.

One of the best Nick Cage films that i have ever seen, he was brillant as Ben, great acting they loved each other very much they acted it out so real.

man society is pretty much set up to make young people into alcoholics...college is one big party...and after college, the only thing to do at night on the weekends is go to places that serve alcohol...well, at least where i live...

It's a hangover 100 fold.
brianwurst1234 2 years ago
Thanks for the perspective.

he spends half the movie convulsing and shaking, i think our camp is well represented
Duckshirt 2 years ago
