I love Craig and Evangeline is as great as always. But I have to say that French has never been the official language in England, Norman language was the mother tongue of the royalty and the nobles and bit by bit became also the language of the trading.

Norman and French are both langues d'oïl and are really close, but as close as Spanish and Portuguese are and no one thinks as them as the same language
