  • This is the easiest ipod take apart ever. I tried to pry at it before after it broke, obviously I didnt try hard enough. After I watched this I tried again and got it apart with no problem! I have taken apart ipod classic, Ipod touch 2nd gen (utterly destroyed that one), and iPhone 4 multiple times and was soooo happy when lit up and saw the apple logo, cuz that was a serious investment.

Thanks for posting this, I love you.

I need a replacement headphone jack i think. cant find it on ebay :(

  • very cool, thanks for uploading!

  • there are 3 screws andtiny as fuck!!!

  • Nice over view really thanks for Disassemble the ipod, now i can tell what my ipod shuffle problem is. Thanks.

  • legit way to make extra cash online /watch?v=BMPhsRN19Ms

  • dude I dropped mine in the fucking washer machine

  • not to be mean but its called the click-wheel not the keypad but you did a great job on the video

  • @plakatwarrior mine was doing that today after I synced it to a new library. iTunes said it was synced and it was with no tunes on it. Check your settings on tunes and try automatic. New library for me and I didn't have a gig on the library.

  • OMG i have that exact knife!

  • What dies it mean when my ipod doesn't play music but the light flashes green then to yellow then the light goes out? And it does not charge either. What solution do you have?

  • @Plakatwarrior it means you need to follow these step very carefully if not done right you will ruin your ipod

    1. grab a hammer with a good strong grip as to not let go of it.

    2. raise hammer upward towards the sky.

    3. swing hammer down with force onto your ipod.

there hope this helps. dude send it into apple dont try to fix it yourself and if its past warrenty then your screwed go buy a new one

  • Thanks so much, I followed this video and was able to replace my battery successfully!

  • nice video u sure know your facts...

  • I want to take mine apart to paint it. Does it go back together? screw it i'm going for it.

  • I want to try this. I have a working shuffle though. The reason I want to take it apart is that I got stuck with a pink shuffle and want to spray paint it black.

  • I followed the instructions after watching this video three times. Everything went easily as instructed until I got to the part about prying the inside out of the case. It was so tight that I ruined the iPod shuffle. This video shows that it only takes a little pressure to get it out. It was not the case with me. I hope others do not have the same problem. Goodbye little iPod.

  • @onekittyhawk63 Im quite sorry about that although im not sure why you would open a working ipod shuffle but if you push on the right place it shouldn't be much force. the internals can only come out one way so if you are pushing on the wrong side it wont come out. im sorry to hear about your ipod.

  • Notice everything he is saying is 'past tense'.... he had it apart before, put it back together and then took it apart again.

    Right bomb?

  • @CoastalConfessions12 Im not too sure what you mean here because to me it sounds like he only did it once.

  • @onekittyhawk63 you should have sense when to stop... You simply should feel when you're near the point of breaking, and then stop....of course, you should break lot of things to learn it :)

  • that thing at 3:43 is the processor!!

  • @maraxani Oh ok thanks :)

  • Awesome, this video was very helpful, thanks.

  • Hey great video. I was able to fix my ipod shuffle using this video as a guide to open it. Cant believe it's alive! again.. lol.

  • ha anybody done this for the 3rd gen ipod shuffle?

  • how is syncing and charging everything? Besides this ipod is unable to hack an "os" but that is the processor, it is an ARM, I believe.

  • this tactic only works with the first gen of the second gen if that makes any sense...after that the board is glued in place quite well.

  • How the hell did you break that.

    Its roo small to break!

  • mine broke in the washing machine

  • kooo...

  • hey man

    dats really nice!!

  • Or you could return it

  • if you don't have warranty, it'll cost more to repair than to buy another one.

  • just use moisture absorbent you can get one inside a new box of shoes it verry effective i try it several times and the one chipset your talking about holding the os it's not called os it's called firmware

  • Thanks-well done. The most likely thing to go out is the battery. I'm guessing there soldered in, which doesn't scare me, but where so you get a replacement? Why not do a video on thar?

  • what if the ipod has been through the washing machine?what do you do then?

  • Thats what happened to mine and i couldnt find anything to do because it when through both the washing machine and the dryer but if you only went through the washing machine just leave it out and lets it dry.... sometimes it works again or you could put it in a bowl of dry rice because rice absorbs moisture.

  • just leave it on your heating system for one week and for the second week flip it over and it will work it happens to me all the time

  • you should leave it in rice for about a week because the rice should absorb the water in your ipods system.

  • um you fucked up my ipod.

  • Um... excuse me but i'm not exactly sure how I did anything to YOUR ipod.

  • lol, yea, but you said to push from the minus side?

  • No sorry if you listen closely i said to push on the grounding tab. Sorry if i said it to quietly what happened to your ipod?

  • And you are supposed to push from the minus side on the little grounding tab.... im not sure what you did.

  • i have the same exact ipod shuffle.

and no way, when your ipod blink orange green orange green and so on, the filmware is damaged. its scary when the red light comes on, lol.

  • Are you the brother of Boxxy?

  • @andrew100z My toughts exactly!

  • hahaha I`ll tell ya somethng funny....

I kinda wanted to change the damn battery

But I ended destroying the damn plastic that pluged the damn earthing (I cant remember how is it called) and I was like fucking idiot!!! but then I just laugh and broke it more I broke the battery crap xD LOL! I kinda liked ur video :)

  • That sucks that it broke but how where you planning on changing your battery because the battery is soldered onto the main board.

  • cool.

i was checkin your vid out cuz mine isn't working. i think the battery isn't charging anymore

i did all five steps on apples site. i have the latest version of itunes, ipod updates, and i restored beck to factory settings. i get no error msgs. when i remove the ipod and i turn it on the light stays green for a few seconds then goes off. when i push play it blinks green, orange, green, orange, green. and that's it.

looking for a replacement battery now. any one have any deals?

  • well if thats the case it isnt the battery when it blinks green, orange, green, orange, green that means it dosent have any songs on it hope it helps

  • Thanks for the help!

  • my charging dock broke and now exactly half of it is stuck inside my ipod, how could i be able to get it out without destroying the headphone jack?

  • wait so did the 3.5mm male end of the connector (the part that sticks out on the dock) get broken off inside your ipod?

  • Ya! thats what happened to mine, and its really pissing me off!

  • How can you fix it?

  • yes that thing is stuck in my ipod how do i get it out

  • dat is exactly wat happened 2 me

  • thats cool but what did u do it for? for fun? or just cuz it broke?

  • i did it for a couple reasons. 1. yes i broke it, washing machines and electronics don't mix well. 2. I love taking stuff apart to find out whats inside and how its works 3. and i find it fun to do. :)

  • cool

  • ur like a lot of people i know they broke their i pods by leaving it in the washing machine by accident

  • ahahahahaha

that really happened to everybody i know (including me)

  • ha ha not bad. now i know the anatomy of a second generation ipod. Now i've gotta break one...

  • well done.. everythings made to be broken.

  • Wow Thanks,

and what GB is your ipod?

  • 2gb

  • i cant get the white part off HELP

  • if you cant get the white part of just use a blow dryer to heat the adhesive but don't heat to much because it might damage it just a little till it comes off easier.

sorry for the reply taking so long.

  • Thanks

  • nice Disassembly

  • Thanks
