Sacramento was settled by Europeans only 200 years ago, and that was by the Spanish. Most English speaking immigrants only settled in Sacramento within the last 100 years. That's only a couple of generations. So where is your family from really?

To grafxusc: That statement is false. Yes, even those who cross illegally pay taxes. Federal taxes, Social Security, Labor and Industry taxes....those are all taken out of the checks they receive for the backbreaking labor they do. The difference is that this is money that the US Government keeps because at the end of the year, most will not file for a return of those taxes.

Texas voluntarily became part of the United States in 1845. Mexico was upset and the American-Mexican war broke out. It ended with the treaty of Guadalupe & Mesilla where the US purchased California and other areas of Mexico. In Feb 1846 this was ratified.
