With all the oral traditions, copying, excising & changing text, many Christians dont know where their faith comes from. They've followed Paul's teachings instead of Jesus ("follow my commandments"). Paul said, salvation is through faith alone which JESUS never uttered in the Gospels.
Jesus cried to "Eloi, Eloi..." on the cross. I've also seen as written as "Ela". Eloi or Ela --- which is ALLAH! (Mark 15:34). Jesus is crying out to Allah - The One God. "El/Al" means The & 'Lah' means God.
if you flip to Psalm 22 you will see that Jesus was quoting scripture from Psalms.......not asking a question at all. Psalm 22 starts with," my God, my God, why have you forsaken me....".....Further in Psalm 22 in verses 16 and 17 you will read about how Jesus was to be crucified in detail. Jesus was on the cross telling them that if they knew scripture like they said that they did than they would know the rest of "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me...." He was revealing who he was.
@SonsofThunderPub - I can only weep when I think of all he suffered for me/us. I know there is great joy in the resurrection and all that He accomplished for us but to say that one would 'enjoy' seeing Jesus on the cross, to me, lacks a certain appreciation of all it is. That it was necessary for Him to die at all should surely bring anyone with a heart, or even an ounce of appreciation for the cross, to tears. The Father's heart deeply grieves over sin and all its consequence.
@DJReech With all due respect, it could be construed as religious arrogance to think must help Jesus out by feeling sorry for Him, when He clearly said "Do not weep for me" because He was giving you the greatest gift of all which was meant to be feasted upon and enjoyed - He gave us the fullness of Himself, for the joy set before Him He endured the cross. It's a diametrically opposite view of the cross. Unfortunately, the church has been mourning to the dirge for 2000 years instead of rejoicing.
I have a question: You mention that, in Eden, God did not forsake or reject Adam and I agree with that in a sense but did God not cast them out of Eden and prevent the way back until Christ came and died? What I mean is that I'm not sure about your comments on sin only affecting us and the 'judgement', if you like, being kind of 'self-inflicted' as opposed to God-inflicted. I hope you see what I mean and will respond. I'm not attacking you: just seeking to understand. Thanks. God bless you.
@DJReech - Just to clarify: If it's only our sin or 'sense of sinfulness' that separates us from God, would it not follow that people who have no sense of their own sinfulness are already in the state you describe and could therefore argue that they do not need Christ as they have no sense of their own sinfulness and therefore do not need forgiveness etc. There are many people who say they 'love themselves' but that's not the same as being loved of Christ, is it? 'Hope you get me. :O)
@DJReech Sin has a curse. God didn't eat from the tree, Adam did. Adam stepped into the curse. It's the curse of the law (the tree of knowledge of good & evil, right & wrong - law). Can't have both law and Life. So mankind wasn't allowed to eat from the Tree of Life in that state until Christ came and destroyed our relation to law and sinfulness. God protected Adam by sending him out of te Garden. God has always been for us.
I think that Jesus' words are referring back to Psalm 22. Sort of like if I say half of a line of your fav movie, and leave it to you to finish. So basically you see if you read through the Psalm, after they pierce his hands and feet (v16) and divide up his clothes and cast lots for his garments (v18), we find out that God did not despise nor abhor or forsake Jesus, neither did He turn his face from him.
Wow! This is so good! I was actually thinking about God's view of sinners in the Old Testament. God is outside of time so He knew about the cross and resurrection before the foundation of the earth! Whoo! Ephesians 1:4
wow, I have always been taught that Jesus was forsaken by the Father!... it is crazy how much bad theology I have heard and believed without even questioning it! :) I thank God for you guys!

The Father 'enjoyed' watching Jesus on the cross? You've lost me again.

@kfchesko It was the Father's idea from the beginning. Jesus says over 40 times in the Book of John that the Father "sent" Him.
