I think the announcer is Edward Meeker. He was in charge of sound effects at Edison and he did selections like these, as well as announcing most Edison cylinders. Also, Meeker had a higher voice than Collins. Noting the early date of this recording, and the similarities between Meeker and Arthur Collins' voices, who knows?
That's awesome to hear, and it's a beautiful phonograph. That has to be Arthur Collins at the beginning. The "Ha-hah!" gives it away. I've only heard Collins do that.
its loud, but you can hear the sound pretty well. The wax is a horrible sound, but its nice to hear old music. I heard they're inventing something called a chip that will somehow connect to your head, so you'll just press a button, and it'll play in your head. Probably by the time I'm 25.
I'm a collector of Blues and Gospel 1902 - 1943, but this one is older, though classify it as blues or gospel isn't fair. It deserves it's own Label !
The playing surface is ruined -but that's due to age (prior to 1900) and composition (brown wax, less durable than black wax or blue amberol).

A great and lively played version. I've always liked the Peerless Orchestra performances.
I agree with the other post that it does sound very much like Arthur Collins. Great and early number, thank you for posting this!

Edison Record. That sounds like Arthur Collins at the beginning but I wouldn't swear to it.

That recording was made over 100 years ago. Now that's what I call an "oldie".
