@lilolale21 Exactly! I can't speak for Rory, but I personally wouldn't want to see his memory disgraced by entering into that political joke of a musuem..... Not Rory - he was too damn good for that. The R&R HOF is an embarrassment.
As a Gallagher fan since about 1973, this is the best six minute commentary with some fine licks mixed in I have seen. I think the stuff with Donal is more personal, like how Rory was about things on a human level. Really a different genre than this, which is kinda slick, a little hyperbole perhaps, but when you consider some of the accolades bestowed on others of far lesser talent and soul...here we lost another one far too young, the crossroads asks a heavy price. Thanks jmcm, from a big fan.
Unbelieveable coincidence: only today, exactly 15 years after his death (14-june-95), I got to know Rory´s work, and I´m already amazed.... Man, this guy sure could blew ones mind!
The song is called Pistol Slapper Blues and it was written by Blind Boy Fuller. Aside from a variety of Rory's cover of this song on Youtube, it is also on his Live In Europe cd.
I have a friend from Germany that came to the US to visit, and bought a copy of "Irish Tour '74" to take back to Europe. I assume it was sold out there then.
the answer is the only decent striaght rock band left, theres heaps of good alternative and singer song writers but few plain rock or blues and why is there so much fucking country round the northwest?
@Gallagherfreak100 I was a fan of Gary Moore, untill i saw how much of a big headed w&nker he was in the press.... I like his music and his live stuff, especially with Thin Lizzy, but i dont like his attitude one bit...!
What a Legend! He played with so much passion... He'll always be alive in my heart. I whish I would have been able to see him live in Athens, but I hadn't been born....
Rory Gallagher was the best kept secret in Rock n Roll and the blues. Kind of a shame in a way. But, I love to throw on one of his CD's and have people say "who's that"?
Never mind that. The myth or story goes that Jimi Hendrix was once asked, "how does it feel to be the best guitarist on earth?" Jimi replied: "I don't know, ask Rory gallagher."
Amazing artist. People today don´t know more what the world "artist" or "Gifted" means. They think that the MTVs sluts are gifted. Rory was gifted he really did he´s thing
Saw Rory at the Park West in Chicago in 1978. We ran out for a beer before the show and ran into Rory and band coming back into the venue from having one themselves! Couldn't have been a nicer guy and as expected, blew the house down. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
I only saw him once in London at the Marquee Club in Wardour St in about 1979 - it was the Photo Finish tour. What a night! Nice to see that he is still so popular. Long live Rory.
Yeah I first seen him at the national boxing stadium in dublin 1973 and went too see him on christmas gigs in this venue. If I remember correctly It was 5/- to get in he blew my mind Rory life isnt the same without you!!
First saw Rory live in Dublin Dec'73, stayed so late I had to walk 8 miles home in freezing cold.Never felt a step I was buzzing so much. Saw him many times all over Europe. Met him backstage quite a few times, he was always surprised that I had made it somewhere halfway across the continent. Lovely, genuine guy. No attitude. No pretension.
Only saw him perform live once in 1976 and that did it for me... Rory was THE BEST... I had shivers running down my spine the whole concert... he was the main man of guitar for me. He was taken from us way too soon - Bless you Rory!
Wow, that first chord there.. after the first "oh did you ever"... that is amazing.. that single chord for that one second it is there, just takes me away...
That version of bullfrog blues is awesome, the slide solo i just wanna listen too over and over, anyone know if that footage is available of him playing bullfrog with the black/white tele is on DVD? Cheers
It's from the first ever Rockpalast to be broadcast live internationally in 1977, which Rory opened, making a little bit of music TV history! Avalilable on the RG at Rockpalast 3 DVD set, which has over 9 hours of great Rory performances.
Perhaps on occasion Hendrix could reach greater heights, but night after night Gallager's virtuosity was astounding.Anyway, trying to compare them is like arguing about two bottles of champage--they're both to my Taste, in my Experience!
Rory Gallagher is undoubtedly my favourite musician. I was only 5 when he played his last show so I never got to see him, but he is a great hero of mine - the ultimate greatest.
Hendrix playing has this sort of loose, raw, passionate feeling to it that I had never heard anywhere else, until I heard Rory Gallagher. The two of them are the greatest things to happen to music in the last century.
It is wonderful to see Rory in such clarity and high sound qwuality.Gallagher the man who kept a generation of |Belfast kids sane during our darkest days,we will never forget him.Rory Gallagher the greates white blues guitarist ever. Thanks
I was lucky enough to grow up in Ireland as he hit the airwaves in 1969 - 1970. Saw him every year in Dublin at teh National Boxing Stadium. His brother Donal is a great guy. Few other audio downloads available. http://www.griffinmcmahon.com/rory.htm

Gary is one of the best blues - rock guitarists in the world. Check out the DVD - Live in Montreux - 1990.
