Coco Coir.. Have you ever seen those open air hanging baskets with some kind of fiberous lining. That is coco coir, but what I use is ground up coco coir and you can find it at hydroponic stores.
@coacheeese as you hit the coco coir with the water it will start to expand. The holes allow for the water to drain out, because you want to rinse out any salts that may be still in the coco coir. It would also be to mushy to work with if you just filled it with water.
