  • Not to mention 2 SSF2T setups, one american and the other a Head to head Japanese setup with some of the best players in southern California every Wednesday night!

That said I love these videos!!! Thanks Jeff =D

    All new parts

  • I don't want to sound like a commercial but what ever, I'm looking for some good competition.

Yes I'm looking at you Jeff 0_0

So anybody in the Socal area should come to Mike Wattson's Super Arcade in Walnut CA. They have a Hyper fighting Arcade and I just installed some new sticks and I promise to keep it in perfect working order as long as people are interested in playing it.

  • p.s. - I'm talking Hyper Fighting

  • Jeff, I play actively and have recently run into a pretty tough Zangief. What are some of the keys for Ryu to defeat Zangief? Thanks.

  • @JohnnyRugged06 rapid low short when he gets near, and fierce fireball in his face once in a while. Mix that up with occationally jumping toward him, because if he thinks your gonna throw a fireball and does spinning hands, and you jumped forward, you can fierce, fierce, fierce fireball combo him GG just like that.

  • @laakuma Thanks Jeff! I'll practice it and work it into my game.

  • Jeff , I know alot of people are dyingggggggg to see some more hyper fighting match vids , maybe with commentary ? be great to see a few games of you vs tomo :)

  • It would have been amazing to watch SF at this state, where it was so heavily based on poking and reaction time, rather then meters and gimmicks.

  • Which system are you playing this on?

  • @xxhennersxx Hyper Fighting Original

  • @laakuma no i mean, you're obviously playing on a tv not an arcade machine. Are you emulating it? or playing on super gun attached to TV?

  • @xxhennersxx emulated

  • @laakuma that might be why it seems off...what were you emulating on? most emulators don't run HF at the right speed.

  • @xxhennersxx I really don't know, its not mine.

  • PLEASE make more Hyper Fighting Blanka videos Jeff! I could watch this all day!

  • Great video, you mention counters to specific moves in certain situations, and you really do use them and apply them very consistently. Question though, Have you heard of Thomas Osaki? What was the deal with him, was he just hype and nothing compared to people like you and Tomo?

  • Does anyone know if they still sell this game? Also, does anyone know the name of the game exactly?

  • im only curious if combos were an important factor back then. were the cps1 chains dominant or was it more tiny lead dominant with pokes and safe options?

  • @DesertUchiha No Combo's were not that important, poking, countering the poking and position were most important.

  • Hey Jeff, I know you only have 100 spots on your xbox live friend list but it would be cool to make the cut and get to meet you on there. I'm an old school player, have a couple HF cabinets in my home, and am always going back and forth on whether or not SSF4 is worth learning. Your new videos are making me want to dive into the game. gamertag is xX Tessai Xx.

  • Wow great demonstration on strategy and mind games.

  • HDtv? Maybe your timing was off not just because you haven't played in a while, but because of the potenial milliseconds lag. I doubt it though, you guys probably have everything set up for gaming.

  • Jeff, you said you started using Blanka as a counter to Dhalsim. Is Dhalsim a really bad match up for Sagat? Does Sagat have any other bad match ups? Human Blankas and the cpu Bison are a pain for me when I'm using Sagat.

  • @JohnnyRugged06 I could not beat tomo's guile with Sagat. I t was not because Sagat wasn't better, it was because he was a better player. Sagat is advantage over guile for sure, no question. Guile ranks #2 or #3 in HF behind Ryu and debatable others

  • @laakuma Thanks Jeff

  • Thanks for the replies Jeff. I love this game and still play it.

  • Another question if you don't mind. I use both Sagat and Ryu, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that Balrog is Ryu's worst match-up. Some people say it's as bad as 7-3 in Balrog's favour. What would you rate that match-up, what do you think is Sagat's worst match-up and what would you rate it? The reason I ask is because I know Ryu is rated higher than Sagat overall but I sometimes wonder if Ryu's worst match-up isn't worse than Sagat's worst match-up. Thanks.

  • @JohnnyRugged06

No, Ryu beats balrog, and Sagat beats balrog easier. Ryu has no real weakness in Hyper, his hardest match is another Ryu or Guile. Ryu;s strength against balrog is his invincible spin kick, if he knocks down balrog once, he gets on him, and its too hard after that. Just standing short, then low short, then spin kick is too much for him, its too easy.

  • @JohnnyRugged06 Sagats worst matchup is Dhalsim, I rate it like 60/40 or something like that. Sagat also has a harder time with Blanka, that might be like 50/50

  • @laakuma Jeff thanks again. It's great to be able to pick your brain a bit. I have yet another question if that's alright.

I am tempted to switch my secondary character from Sagat to Guile. Where do you rank Guile in HF and what are his bad match ups and what would you rate them. You were saying in your videos that you mauled Guile with Sagat when you got him cornered, could an elite like Tomo counter your Sagat when cornered with Guile?

  • I wish you had some old footage from World's Finest!!!! That would be sweet!! I love watching OG Purist play! I still think that Jeff,Mike and or course Tomo are still the best at SF2 SF2 CE and Hyper. I dont think any of these new comers could come in and beat these guys even to this very day. It would be so kickass to see a old school vs new school 3v3 team match at evo next year!

  • Hey Jeff, I've heard you were a Sagat player but I've also heard a lot about you and Blanka. Did you switch your main from Sagat to Blanka or did you always use them both? If you did switch, what made you want to stop using Sagat? Thanks.

  • @JohnnyRugged06 I beat the hell out of everyone with Sagat, then picked Blanka as a counter to Dhalsim and a few others, and it just so happened that Blanka ended up dominating absolutely ridiculous at the time.

  • I remember back in the day getting schooled exactly like this in hyper fighting with blanka vs my ryu, I think it was santa monica pier not sure. Only time I was ever owned that bad and several times in a row at that. I beat the guy maybe once because I switched it up and swarmed him. You'd probably take me even with slowed reaction time, I was never even close to that fast.

  • do you not use the verticall ball much jeff?

  • @theycallmejpj

I didnt use it that much, except against a few characters like Dhalsim, Bison, Vega, Honda, Guile rarely...basicially, its only used for behind the head trapping when they get up, everything else its not good, there is better.

  • Hey Jeff -- what is your opinion of the "Blanka Train" in regards to a game like Hyper Street Fighter II? I understand that this video is in no way an accurate representation of the Blanka train circa-1993, but in some bizarre time warp scenario where people can use WW, CE, Super and ST characters against your Hyper Fighting Blanka at your peak, would you still be able to utterly wreck people, or are HF Blanka's advantages exclusive to characters who are also from HF?

  • @Liqu1dSun

HF Blanka is a top tier pick against anything pre-super turbo. Supers completely wreck blanka, and ESPECIALLY tech throws. Tech throws completely ruined the blanka train.

  • Hey I was wondering whats your opinion on Kamoda the japanese blanka player. What do you think he does well and not so well on?

  • i am sorry, I never heard of him.

  • My mistake his name isnt Kamoda its Komoda.

  • @breakcue101

you can't compare ST blanka to HF blanka man. almost completely different characters.

  • I hate HD remix. It sucks. You want to use skill and try to zone balrog? he does super and by luck, you were trying to fake a fireball and were not blocking. So so stupid. Game resorts to 1 persono sitting there, doing nothing, because if he does something, there is X % chance he eats a super and losses position. So stupid.

  • @laakuma yeah i agree, hd remix sucks, it feels so different & unbalance with the remade graphics. i rather play hyper street fighter anniversary. anyway do you play sf4?

  • @touyang06

I have not played any version of SF past SF3, which the last time I touched was like 1997?

Of course, I played AE a few times, as you know. I have not played more than about say, 10 hours in say the last 5 years..

  • 0:34

    NO , NOT THE HEADBITE

  • By the way, what system is this being played on?

  • I am not sure, maybe ps3, either that or its emulated of HDD.

  • I just watched your 8 part video series about Street Fighter 2 and the people who played back then and after watching this video I get what you said about that "jumping up with Blanka" stuff. That was a really good series by the way, and I want to thank you for putting it up. I've never really had anyone explain their strategies the way that you did in some of those videos. After listening to your explanations in those videos, I found it much easier to see what you were doing in this video.

  • laakuma, you seem to know alot about HF. Will you tell me how to beat tick throws please?

Tick throws are my only problem on HF, so once I know how to beat them, I'm sure my skill on HF will level up.

  • here is the beginner, yet effective way to take care of tick throws. When he is next to you and your not standing up yet, just hold back and press fierce as fast as you can....then when he ticks you, youll throw him.

  • Geralds set up is badass ;) (Socal VF now)

Worlds Finest Tourneys brings back a lot of memories.

Probably played you once.. who knows

  • LMFAO rolled

  • wow sick ass stuff... reaction time is godly lol

  • Where are you guys playing this at?

  • one of my friends I see a few times a year has the best setup with opposing 25" monitors.

  • What made the Street Fighter II series great and a step above a lot of today's fighting games which some are great is there are no parries, no abusive Alpha counters or built in advantages for certain characters like in 3rd Strike. It required your skill, dedication, pure timing and reaction to win.

Being married now gives me not as much time to practice but every now and then, I take out my Sega Saturn and Street Fighter collection and play a few games.

    OG SF 4ever.

  • Man I played a bunch of hyper fighting today at James Games in California using Blanka. This game is so great.

  • holy crap that fireball trade really does own ryu. I gotta try that out!

  • You should get back into hyper fighting. I see you like to roll and stand strong, possibly tick throw afterwards after a sweep knock down. How good do you think is to sweep then horizontal roll, then vertical roll instead of stand strong? You can do this by charging db then df+punch, and immediately push up+kick since you're already charging down.

  • Thank you so much.

I played Hyper for many years, beating anyone who played, but I also now suffer with slower reactions. I had an unbeaten record amongst all my friends for the entire time I played, although I never played 'professionally'.

I agree exactly with your main sentiment about the current games focusing solely on looking for an error, so you can punish them with one ridiculous move. It's what killed the game for me too.

Thanks again for the videos - they really took me back.

  • I like it for the fact that you admit that you can't play at the same lvl as before (obviously more important things in life, not the same dedication and execution/reaction is not the same anymore).

However, I agree 100%, for me, even when I play casual and up against solid players, mentally, I can see the mistakes...however my execution is not the same...so I can't always react accordingly.

Hopefully you'll post more HF video strategies, this game needs more love by current SF players.

  • Agreed.

  • What I uploaded is not that good. Mike was playing against me some of those games, and he will tell you, it was much much worse a long time ago, with precision and better everything.

Tomo beat it with better timing. Spin kicked and I could not block it when I jump straight up. Its more than that though, you have to know when I am going to jump. He just had a knack for knowing.

  • Nice upload Jeff, and this is excellent stuff. Goes to show how far behind my local area was at playing with Blanka back in the day. To be real, I always did pretty good 50/50 against Blanka players back in the early 90's with Ryu.

However if anyone would have used this strategy against me, I would have been 0/10 against Blanka players seriously.

Going to try this for fun now, although my execution is 100% shit compared to my youngling version, btw, Jeff, how did Tomo beat this again?

  • Respect

  • I tried my extra Ps2 to get the extra HF board from my brother. too bad I suck at it. Thanks for the upload.

  • stupid me, I meaned "traded" not "tried"

  • Cool vid. I hope to see more of your stuff

  • dude i love every single video you have made. thank you bro

  • Damn, the mixups are so sick. Thanks for posting.

  • Oh wow Jeff, thanks for posting this! Roll on the Blanka Train.

  • Its not that good because the up ball can be countered easily by alot of characters, LIke if you roll forward, then do low forward say, then to up ball right away, or even roll forward then up ball right away, all they have to do with anyone is jump back and push a button right away and your hit and they are out. Even dhalsim can do that.

  • Thanks for the reply. I was watching Decoy's Blanka vid and it looked cool. I'm 24, much too young nowadays but I got into and decent HF when I was 17 and even played at SHGL and some of the older guys thought I was good for my age. Nowhere near the level of OGs however. This is still my favorite sf game...

  • This is the video I was talking about

    /watch?v=DAXCxVF2EjE

  • Almost all of those moves up ball to land behind would be stuffed, as well as the up ball against various characters in th corner, or trapping, etc. Ryu does a spin kick when you cross him up, hes out free. You can't cross him up. Chun Li does her spin, and she also jump back short everytime you up ball.

  • Oh Ok I understand. It's funny because every tier discussion on the forums say HF blanka is good because of the vertical ball, but this seems to be a myth from what I'm getting from you. I'm guessing Blanka wasn't good in CE or in ST not because of the lack of the vertical ball, but because other characters were simply better.

  • Haha i just love the original Blanka design (he looked much more beastly than his present cartoony self).
