49:30 - I'm not sure about the Taliban and China, but I'm quite sure Ray Kurzweil predicted the fall of the USSR right after predicting the rise of the internet. The internet was predicted by him in in the mid 80's I believe. However, Dr. Smil's point is still valid - there are some things that can be reliably predicted on the large scale, but you can't reliably predict the secondary and tertiary effects. I.e. the internet was the core prediction, USSR was secondary with more error.

There is no shortage of natural gas, just an absence of determination to provde for the availbility of refill stations, so that trucks and auto have access to CNG. It is the answer, but there are forces organizing even against this energy.
