Its mind blowing to see the ignorance of some US reporters going to a foreign country and apply their conservative definition on that country. These countries have their own history and practice. Why would the American form of conservatism define who they are? Why can't a pro-choice pro-gay individual believe in small govt? This guy concluded that Ethiopia is conservative because as he said they're pro-life What about on economic issues? Does he really think they don't like govt helping them?

bullsh*t. this is the american right trying globalize it's views. 'social issues' for the american right are not things that other countries concern themselves with to the degree the american right does. primary social issues and concern in ethiopia are poverty and disease. yes, the ethiopian orthodox church is conservative, but the ethiopian people, other than mostly amharas(due to their deeper association with church) are highly liberal, not just in modern times but since antiquity.

Obviously Ethiopia is not a big power, and if you paused for a second to think why do these people even care about Ethiopia's reaction and put some thought into it, you may get closer to the answer. CBN or any other western institute cares little about what someone from an impoverished African nation thinks or believes. They do care a great deal about how perceive each other.  They seem to have pretty good control over your thoughts, as you willingly swallow what is reported here.
