@herrxav Yeah, it was awesome to explore this bunker - and the rest of the base. Luckily I got to explore it several times before it was recently torn-down. According to a friend that was up here a week or two ago, ALL of the builds are now gone. :-(
@Czechsix@zmbyhntr Thanks. This base's days are numbered - demolition has already begun. Originally, demolition of the upper base - seen here - was going to be put on-hold for a few more years due to lack of funding. Apparently the demolition contractor dropped the cost of the bid and has already torn down some buildings here. The bunker likely still exists, though. I'll send you a private message with the location.
Dang, I should really get up there to check it out while something's still standing. I'm pretty sure I can find it, but if you can send me a coord I'd much appreciate it.
@Czechsix Ugh. YouTube's messaging system is being a (insert slang term for feminine cleansing product here) and not letting me send you a message. Will try again tomorrow.
@zombieman48 This area is now USFS (United States Forest Service) property - no longer Air Force property - so you'd simply get a trespassing ticket. I've heard that the fine is around $125. This location is in eastern San Diego County, California. If you want coordinates, send me a private message.
@zombieman48 Of course I've been inside the shelter. Until about a year ago, the entrance hatch had been welded shot. Then one night I noticed that somebody had cut or pried it open. Search my page for my video of the inside of the shelter.
I remember exploring these buildings back in '02-'03.Pretty cool place. I wish I could've gone back there before they started tearing them down....

This must have been a radar base to " watch over the Pacific ".
Petemonster62 1 year ago
@Petemonster62 It was. The only purpose of this base was to watch for incoming aerial attacks. :-)
