She returned back to me the Joy of Music(& even the Joy of Life)since I discover Her 2 yrs ago.I ve seen all great sopranos from our times(XXI century, not from past one). There're some of them very good:but no single one can reach the supreme level of technique, power, vibration, proyection, coloratura, sensibility, etc of Diana's Miraculous Art.
She's the God's Voice over the Earth, singing to an amazed world.
Thank you, Irene!!! Those of us marooned here in the US, where the mavins of culture, the BBC, feel free to deny us access to these treats, even via the Internet, are very grateful to you for taking the time to post and share this with us.
Wow, her trills are excellent in this rehearsal, even better than normally at the actual performances! Damrau has an ideal voice for Lucia. I'd just like her portrayal to be slightly more vulnerable and with less "explicit" vocal effects to enhance the drama, which is already very powerful and clear throughout the music. Anyway, her technique always amazes me, especially her rock solid, crystalline but very round top.
@Homoclassicus Yeah! those trills are so good here! That's what my first thought was when I saw this! I also hope she will vary a bit more with interpretations. So hope there will be a couple of more Lucia's in the future for her! Even better if there will be a recording on dvd or cd.
Beyond the beautiful instrument with an absolutely cast iron technique, Damrau posesses an extreme intelligence and intuitive sense of what is going on. The girl's done her homework. Working with Maestro Pappano is much an affirmation and further honing of those skills. The result is something quite magical: one might even say fantastical ! Bravi !
What can I say? Damrau and Pappano together rehearsing such an amazing piece. I hope this is the beginning of a future collaboration between the maestro and the soprano. I would LOVE if they record together a full version on CD of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR. Diana is just absolutely fantastic in this role! Bravo to both!
Don't you just LOVE Pappano's hair in this video? LOL I wonder who his hairdresser is? Did she say bipolar?

Did Pappano really say "staccato notes - detatched : loke drops of blood"?
Great stuff.
But that's about all I learned from this "rehearsal".
