Super nice, I learned more from this than from 5 weeks of quantum physics classes:) Hmm… That's not entirely true but this is certainly a good complement;)
Let me point out two lines in this rap song (terrible rap song)..... "The isotopes we know are on a diagonal track, and at first glance, I thought it looked pretty whack" and "they define the isotope, and with FRIB they hope to make some that no one's ever seen before and thats dope". do you want to be black? i mean what the hell is wrong with you? Are you like super nerd or just a complete fuckin asshole. I'm gonna go with fuckin asshole.
@leonheart00 They're looking at only one specific isotope of carbon that decays at a very predictable rate. Go and muck around somewhere else. Come back when you actually understand the science.
Heck, they actually teach this stuff in high school algebra.
@Anon701 No /b/rother the decay rates of radioactive isotopes are NOT discussed at any length in highschool math classes. Nice trolling though, please commence barrel roll. Good Day sir.
@leonheart00 they are in some. I remember discussing that subject in high school math classes, and I didn't even go to a special math/science school (or even a particularly outstanding regular school). It is pretty sad that the curriculum varies so much from school to school, some people don't end up covering what others do.
@75noodles If this is such a simple algebraic formula you wouldn't mind explaining in detail what it is and why it would be accurate. As I see this it is a matter of chemistry and not basic algebra. I can only see the connection via theoretical means
@Anon701 actually, they do not.... I don't think, I was asleep every class period and still made honor roll this year and last. Yays for soon to be Junior! anyway, you seem to be incorrect, so please stop trolling before I go and get a flaming sword. {Flaming Swords: When a Troll Just Won't Stay Dead! (c)Flaming Swords of Faerun}
@Anon701 That might be so but how can you possibly assume that the decay rate of a particular isotope will not be interfered with by various environmental conditions? Sure in a controlled lab study it might be very predictable. Another thing is we have no way to gauge how decay rates might increase or decrease after hundreds or thousands of years. These time periods are out of the span of observation as no such science existed that long.
I have met some of these guys and gals and it is amazing how intelligent they are. But even though they are gifted with out-of-this world imaginations, incredible theories and razor-sharp curiousity, they still have plenty of enthusiasm for making funny yet educational videos like this one.
No, that's not what she's saying. It's impossible to turn Lead into Gold because in order to do so it would need to undergo transmutation(simply put, changing the nucleus of one element into another). And, transmutation can only be done with elements with an atomic number of of 83 and above, because they have somewhat more unstable nuclei and are thus radioactive. Gold has an atomic number of 79. So good luck trying to turn Lead into Gold, lol :).
actually, the nscl routinely removes protons from elements. how do you think they make the rare isotope beams? this isn't stuff you pick up at the super market and even if it were, it decays into other elements! some isotopes decay by proton emission (ex. 69Br)...i'm sure you could find many a paper on it
I just realized that at 2:36, it's the MSU 4pi Miniball experiment that I worked on a few summers ago with Dr. Famiano from WMU! I stayed in the Owen dorm and hung out with those two really nerdy guys, Brent and .... whatever his name was (with the foam and duct-tape swords!). (Brent, if you're reading this, try to get a hold of me!)
Weird, I am studying physics and I do not see why it should piss us of so much, maybe it is because english is not my mother tongue; does it really?? LOL
Well, I don't know, but it pisses me off! hahah. Actually, it's just a hillbilly term. People studying English would never hear it. (unless they listened to soundbites of the former president speak).
La (no) il (small) aha (small, 100% independencies), il (small) la (no) 'llah (1, and only 1, 100% Independency), because you, the 1, 100% independency create dependenices, and because you can have places you choose to not live or go, go, go... So, top, bottom, charmed, strange, flavor, color, truth, or beauty, from micro to macro down to 6 ways for 2 (+ or -), or 2 ways for 1 (inside, or outside); No room in the Ramdan In? Born in the eversion manger? Coming again? Blind tawaf, but Sarri Faces
Inside out can happen how many ways? Yet only d or right in the isomer play? Curb side, Street side: Einstein's Bolts side, Fermi-dirac side bonded like James. Oh, oh, Seven. 3.1415. "Six!" Ramadan's seamless whether inside or out: E resists compression cause the Ramdan's in, m resists expansion cause the Ramadn's out, Kaba-akab: Eide, tawafs and sarris, seams strong and weak close as a French braid, But Ramdan, only 100% independence can go, so infinity's in R's show. Stripe that R get a e-m fi
