It's a shame that people do not research before commenting. @shavingcremefire, check the Lego World Records and you will find this listed. Now do your homework and use spell check next time.
@kkksskkk You obviously misunderstood my question and comment. I was wondering if you truly thought that anyone cared that your "tiniass" trebuchet could throw farther than this "bulllshit". Most people that watch seem to think it's cool that he even made a trebuchet out of lego's that was this large. So, show me your "tiniass" lego trebuchet that throws farther in a VIDEO and I will forget about this conversation completely. Ok?
@TheFyroPyro For one, I dismantled it quite a long time ago. And even if I still had it I don't have any working camcorder and I could care less about you forgetting anything. What are you, the president of the united states? I don't need to prove anything to some random jackass I meet on youtube. Also, your reasoning makes no sense, why would seeing my video help you forget about this conversation? You said yourself you didn't give a shit.
awsome dude! thats wicked. (i too wish i had that much lego) currently building a costom wood one in back lawn. kids built a little one . and me and a friend (after a few beers ) desided we could do better and bigger. not an easy project.! (kids still winnig) but we will keep trying because its intresting
What is with people and their ignorant minds. They say "i can build bigger" "i can build better" but arent doing. and then they claim to not be a world record. I lok at this and think its amazing and even if I thought it wasnt a world record I would applaud you for building such an amazing project the thing is taller than you! I wish I had enough lego and if I did I would totally build one myself. I think it doesnt throw far because its holding it too long. just needs a few modifications.
@megamindstorm101 Thank you for having one of the best comments. Too many times I hear the "I can do better" rant with no backing. As far as the modifications I have not bothered, because my smaller one has the world record for distance, and I would love to see someone build a bigger one. So the challenge stands for anyone who thinks they can do better. Build it, post it and apply for the world record, Until then quit complaining. Thank you again great comment!
@Novocaine77 Please review the comments left before prior to asking the same question. The answer is there depending on the object thrown. For the contest it was 4- 2X4 LEGO bricks at a distance of 26ft 4in.
@MurderOfTheCrows In response... Build a bigger one if you like. You can find the dimensions for this one on the altenative book of world records website, under LEGO. This is the site that most of the LEGO WORLD RECORDS are listed. If you do not do your research before commenting, refrain because it may find you to be uninformed.
@SeAnStAmOn Then why don't you apply for the "World Record"? Talk is cheap, Post a video of it firing and then get the application for the record. After you have done that, then you can tell the world about it. Keep in mind that for the record it has to be 100% LEGO, including counterwweight.
i built a rubber band powered trebuchet lastnight and also have built many wooden ones the key to them launching far is the angle and length of the pin the ring comes off i got about twice that distance with about and 8th the size but its all about that pin, it was fun untillit self destructed
Yes there is a competition you can look for the guidlines on Brickworld's website. Good luck. The World Record for distance is not held by this trebuchet, but by my smaller one. It can be found under: The Flinger on MOC pages.
in stead of a small counter weight just build a holow big counter weigh it could weigh the same and make the trebuchet look normal not a little scrawny box on the end of this bohemeth lego trbuchet
The "scrawny box" is a solid counterweight made entirely out of weighted LEGO bricks. Each one weighs 1.8 oz. I did not see a point to make my trebuchet asthetically pleasing, I was going for pure function. The way I designed it allowed me to continue to add more weghted bricks depending on what I was trying to accomplish.
I would never use glue or anything of the sort. I build everything with the ability to take it apart and rebuild at any point. I did use alot of Technic pieces to join the pieces so they could flex without coming apart.
At Brickworld 2008 we added a ridiculous amount of weight bricks( I believe the final count was 52 or so.) and found that it had reached its potential around 26 ft. The problem is that I will not add any non-LEGO pieces such as metal rods or any other materials for counterweight. I have launched other heavier objects over 40 ft but they do not conform to the rules of the throwing contest.
Just to clear things up a bit,"the guy" in the video is me. And I have a smaller one that I will be uploading soon that has thrown further than this one.
wow dude, you need to put some weight on that lol and that thing will be amazing. Dude, i'd be too scared to fire that thing, like if it just like fell apart!
For those of you who attended Brickworld this past weekend you saw this Trebuchet in action. For those who did not it one the "Fling things" competition for distance by throwing four 2x4 bricks over 26 feet. After some free advice I will be redesigning some of the building specs and hoping for a 50 foot launch next year. Stay tuned I will be posting new videos soon. One will feature this Trebuchet throwing one of the contestants MOC's entry in the competition.
To be as vague as possible, yes it does fit the guidelines however I am not sure how it fairs against so light of a projectile. I will have to find out before considering. Regardless I will be firing it anyway(maybe in a hallway on the public days). I do have two others that may already be dialed in for the competition. You will have to wait and see.
about twenty feet in the video. I used the 20x30 tires tied in a net as my projectile. I have two smaller ones as well. The one I had at brickworld 2007 was capable of throwing a 7gram rock over thirty feet. It makes my neighbors nervous. I hope to add a video of the others soon. Thank you for your comments.
Probably would have gone farther if you increased the mass of the counterweight

Nice shot! I once built a smaller-scale Lego trebuchet on a whim in high school. It could launch a ball about 12 feet, if I was lucky.

In my opinion, the shorter arm (this with weight), should be really shorter. It would make farther range.

I've built a bigger lego trebuchet than that. It was 5 feet tall at the pivot joint for the arm. The top of the arm was at 10 feet.

1. make the wieght heavier
2. add in a wall in the center like this: _____
[ ]
[_____]
[ ]
[_____]
If you add it, it will make the arm do less of an overswing, allowing the projectile to be launched at far greater distances
