@mcnee1ce It means a succession of possibilities or variations (which might have been a better word). In this case, a full chest roll from side to side, a half chest roll from side to side, a full chest roll from front to back. a half chest roll from front to back. You can also do a chest roll delivering the hoop from the back instead of the front but I didn't know that one when I made this.
@Caroleeena cool, thanks! chest roll is the one trick i haven't been able to get after like a year and a half of hooping and this tutorial totally helped. thank you!
I've been trying to learn this for a few weeks now and as soon as I finished watching this video, I was able to finally get the move! Thank you very much. The breathing technique really helped, I kept holding my breath as soon as I leaned back, but I don't anymore. Thank you, again. You have the best tutorials!
Caroleeena! I struggled with hooping for nearly a year with other tutorials. I found your channel this spring and your wonderful descriptions and repetitions have helped me finally "get it". THANK YOU! I wish I had known that you were in Charlotte recently.. I would have been there.. I live in SC. If you ever come back to the area I will come to be taught by you. Thanks again, your energy and sweet spirit are infectious. xoxoxo
@dystructivegirl Thank you for your kind words. They made me feel really good. I get to Charlotte a few times a year and I'll be teaching in Columbia SC in June. I'm also thinking of doing a little retreat up in the mountains. If you'd like me to send you more info on any of these, drop me a note with your email address. It would be fun to hoop together!
That was really great the way you broke it down, thank you so much for taking the time to do this...but I have to watch it again ...that beautiful but extremely curious and fascinated cockatoo kept distracting me, he/she is hilarious but totally endearing...bless :)))
Fantastic tutorial, in fact all of them are! I am having such a hard time figuring out how to switch the hoop to the outside of the hoop, i can't get it and it's so frustrating!
yea!!!! I've got the across the back roll down alright... but when I try to do this I just hit myself in the face! I think what you said about leaning from your back and not just your head will help a TON! haha I'm going outside right now to practice this some more!! THANKS!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Caroleena! I've been hooping for over a year now and have never been able to conquer a smooth, across the chest roll... now I can! You are a wonderful instructor, breaking it down so clearly! Thank you for the time you put into making these! We really appreciate it! <3
This move has always plagued me. I am so happy that you posted. I have to try this tomorrow. I am always doing the half. I think this move is so hard for me because, you can not look in the mirror and master the full extension. Thank you Caroleeena for your wonderful tutorials. You are a true gift to us...........
People have been catching onto this! A few minutes ago I was the 1200th viewer...now I'm the 1208th.
Lovely work, Caroleeena, lovely teaching - I don't know when I'll get to this move (if) but when I do, this will help a lot. And - b'golly, a move you can do SLOWLY - to some extent!
This is a great tutorial...i have a silly question...I'm really new to hooping and have 160 psi hoops. I've been trying this move and i'm really getting banged up. I thought I'd broken my jaw a little while ago. Is the hoop you're using lighter than the 160 psi? Thank you again for the tutorial!!!
Not silly at all! I use a 100 psi hoop and that's one of the reasons. It hurts less when you hit yourself. It also doesn't require as much hand strength and is easier to handle and balance. It also reduces the risk of strained or sprained ligaments, especially in the chest, elbow and wrist. You can get 100 psi tubing in both 1/2 inch diameter (which is what I'm using here) or 3/4 inch diameter. I like both a lot. The 3/4 " size is a good multi-purpose size. Hope this helps!
Thank you for your reply!! I've got some 1/2 inch leftover from making some hoops for a friend. I'll make one for myself tonight!!! Thanks again. P.S. What a great setting you have with Mulder there.
This is such a pretty move so I'm inspired to try it. You make all the moves look so easy. I like the detailed instruction to help hoopers like me that don't master the moves quickly and need all the helpful tips we can get! Mulder is adorable as usual. Awesome that you take him outside with you.
I love that you brought Mulder outside with you for this video. :) Thank you so much, I will work on these tips while I practice my chest rolls. Right now, they are more of a chest bounce. Hopefully your tips will get me smoothed out!
He loves to be outside. If I'm outside and he's knows I'm outside, he yells at me till I come get him.We have little stands and trees with low branches (where he can't climb too high for me to reach him) in all our favorite hangout places. Silly bird. Funny how those barking dogs got him riled up!
If your hoop is bouncing, it usually means you're releasing too early or your shoulder blades are raised. Hang on to the hoop til it's balanced in your palm and make sure to breathe & relax back.
GRACIAS! Lovely demonstration & terrific tutorial. You are such a fabulous instructor. And Mulder is his usual awesome self as well (...but I don't think he was ready for his close-up! Ha!)
Thanks so much, Caroleena! Really fantastic tutorial! I really appreciate your clear & soothing description. This move has eluded me for so long, I can't wait to go try this now with your insight in mind! =)
Oh Caroleeena this is wonderful! Thank you so much for the break down. I realize now that I have only done a half roll. I don't know if I could ever be as smooth as you...I will practice, practice, practice though. By the way I love your dimples and gorgeous smile! Give Mulder a kiss for me! Hugs,C
You'll have it in no time. It just takes practice and relaxing, especially once you get that hand change that allows the hoop to balance in your palm. Practice that most of all.
i know i already emailed you but this is perfect! breathing i really like how you brought that up b/c its totally true its what controls your movements with the hoop. key ingredient. your the best and your bird is beautiful.
Yay, a new tutorial from Caroleeena is truly a red letter event! I've been trying to learn this move, too. Your instructions are so thorough, deep & subtle. Love that smashing '40's hat! too--, & your giggle after that last "break"!
p.s. Thanks for teaching me the pretty footwork for the isolation barrel roll-- I'm finally starting to get it, in sox on hardwood anyway!
I'm starting to get it! Thank you!
