  • Thanks, my maltese poodle will not stay still AT ALL. We have talked to the vet about mild setatives ( pardon my misspelling).

  • great video. thanks for the help

  • please help me, i just cut off my dogs foot by trying to cut off the nails.........just playing people

  • Great instructional video!

  • @mamaofmoose Glad it helps. Let me know if you have other ideas for videos.

  • Great video, thanks a lot...before I used a flash light to see the quick, that process took forever!! now i clip until I don't see the white chalky stuff...thanks again

  • @RwillFinishStrong

    Great. Glad it helps!

  • That dog is so ugly that he's actually kinda cute! He is indeed lovely and well trained!

  • You are amazing, I can now trim my pugs nails with confidence.

  • @Br00ski Glad it works for you. The more confident I am, the more relaxed my dogs seem to be. Kisses to your pugs.

  • how the hell does she cut so smoothly? i have to SQUEEZE mine to get it to slice through tha nail and mine is exactly like hers

  • So the "gummy bear" area is before you get to the quick? I'm scared to death to cut my dogs quick! Thanks.

  • Amen--best video, best lighting, best explanations. Thanks!

  • @TheCindysama Wow. Thanks for the great review!

  • Thanx for making this video,I'm gonna try it on my dog right now!!!!

  • Excellent tutorial! Thank you. I had been afraid of trimming my dogs until now. I know what to look for and the proper way to use the tools.

  • good stuff! THanks for the tutorial. Kinda funny that you were demonstrating with wheatons. My pesky little terror...er, uhhh terrier is so bad about holding still, so when i saw you had the same kind of pup as me, it made me think..."I can do this!" Let's hope Digby agrees!

  • Awesome video! Very helpful! Thank you for posting!

  • Since when did dogs have toenails. I thought they had claws.

  • Great camera work is a major part of this very well-done video. Thanks, too, for giving me excellent instruction on how to clip our pup's tonails.

  • If the nails are to long will it hurt the dog and keeping them from walking? or jumping.

  • Good Video, definitely helped me out!!! :)

  • this video is exactly what i need to get the courage to trim my puppies nails

    great video million thanx

  • thank you so much for this very informative video. I now feel that I can do this without hurting my dogs.

  • Finally! Someone who KNOWS how to make a good video! Thank you - best video on the subject on here.

  • @powdersprings30127 Thanks for your great comments. They are are appeciated!

  • my chiguagua has sooo long nails but there like the gummy bear color..should i cut or not?

  • This is the most informative nail clipping instruction I have found to date.

Your explanation of the appearance of a nail clipped properly is one I had not seen.

Bless your heart! I hope everyone with questions on nail clipping finds your video.

  • Between my two large dogs and me not wanting to hurt them, nail care always has been a sensitive topic and I never quite dared to trim their nails far enough. Sure, normally the nails should stay short enough from walkies alone, but that doesn't always seem to work as expected either, so nailclipping it is. This video has finally taken the fear of hurting my puppies out of the whole equation, showing how exactly to do it and how far to cut without hurting the dog. Thanks a lot. :)

  • What brand are your cutter? Good job...You are very clear...Good job!

  • What brand are your cutter? Good job...

  • I'm so scared of cutting too short, how much does it actually hurt the dog? I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, so they have pretty high tolerance for pain to begin with, but I'm just very afraid of harming her in any way.. I have guinea pigs that i sometimes cut too far, and they do a little PIPP and then they calm down, seems like they don't have any lasting pain or anything, sort of like the initial sting of a needle at the doctors office or something...

  • i tried on my dog (tiny pomeranian) but i kinda stopped real quick. she has incredibly long nails by now but they're so thin its (for me) almost impossible to see this jelly-like substance. when i cut a little off 3/4 of the nail i see is the outer black shell. in the middle a little gray dot. but my dog is really calm about this but at some point she starts screaming even though the nail still looks the same. (with the gray dot inside). how do i possibly go about this?

  • best video on how to cut them. easy to figure out now

  • best video on how to cut them. easy to figure out

  • Thank you I feel much more confident to tackle the nail clipping on our two dogs it was a good demo

  • Good video I will get a pair of nail clipper for my 2 staffs but do you need to grind them after and what bleeding do they bleed e mail me please.

  • Thanks for the info. Watched three times then gave it a try on my tough guru yorkie before trying on her dealer cat brother. She held, still, zero worries, even yawned. Made me laugh for being all scared. She watched intently as I clipped her brother. He was fine with it too.

  • Best video I've seen on this subject. Well done!

  • @GulfCoastGirl5 Thanks for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated. I am planning on uploading more videos about dogs.

  • @GulfCoastGirl5 Thanks! I appreciate your response

  • Nice. I thought Wheatens have dark nails (but the must vary in color). I'll let my groomer do the nails!! I'm too chicken.

  • @karenbowz I don't like doing nails either, but Patrice was the one who taught me how to do it right, and now I feel much better about it.

  • heatttttttttttt

  • good video and music, gives me more confidence.

  • @landy1337 Thanks for your positive response!

  • my dog is so nervous when i gave her a nail trim. what should i do?

  • This was the best nail clipping video I've seen. The gummy bear reference was the best advice. I had been stopping at the chalky white area. Thanks a million!!!

  • @girlsruleVII Your welcome! Thanks for watching

  • yeah, but my uncle says, that he trims teddy his dog like once a month, and is that good or bad please tell me somebody

  • My dog is very sensetive to her paw and when i hold her paw she always pulls away and when i hol her paw she lets me file but not trim...any suggestions?

  • Great Video and natural style for teaching.

  • This is just what I was looking for to remove my anxiety about nail care. From the video, it looks like you clip at a 90% angle to the actual nail. (Let me know, if it is more diagonal.) I was unaware of the "jelly" "gummy bear" layer, which sounds like it protects the quick (how deep is it?). Anyway, you've provided the confidence to jump in, especially with dark nails that obscure the quick. Thank you for a fine instructional video. Enjoyed your title page humor, too.

  • I can't thank you enough, this video is SO descriptive, unlike others. It's concise, easy to understand, is very informative and gives extremely useful tips. The gummi bear tip was especially useful and I really appreciate that you showed us both a white nail and a black nail. My husband and I just gave my 10 wk old Schnauzer her first nail clipping, we were really nervous but did everything according to your advice and it went fine!(We had some flour on hand to help clot one nail we cut close)

  • I've been looking all over for a video or website that would help me figure out where to stop cutting the nail. This by far is the most helpful video I've found. I'm a lot more confident that I won't cut too far on my dog's nails. Thanks!

  • Great demonstration, thanks.

  • Very well done. I have searched everywhere and you are the first person to actually say, "cut until it comes to a jelly, gummy bear and shiny texture." You have no idea how much that helps! Excellent visual and description. Now I have the utmost confidence in doing this without having to fork out 15 dollars at the vet! Thank you so much!

  • Wow, I am so thankful for you right now and hopefully in about an hour my little shorkie- Bailey Grace, will be too!

  • Excellent video. I just cut the quick on my dog so I figured I better learn the right way. Very informative!

  • I don't have a dremmel, but i will follow your video, thanks, new subscriber :D

  • this was very useful on how short i should be cutting a dogs nails, both of my dogs have dark nails, except for one white nail on my older dogs back foot.

one of my dogs is a snauzer mis and like your wheatons has long hair around the eyes, i was wondering if you have concidered making a video about how to safely trim the hair around the eyes and how to properly go about doing it?

  • Thanks for the feedback. I greatly appreciate it. I will put eye trimming on my list of things to do.

  • would it be the same with a maltese dog??

  • Absolutely, it's the same. You may want to use a smaller toe nail clipper however.

  • Excellent video with great instructions and views. I love that you showed the different tools and showed cutting a black toe nail too. You're a new favorite of mine!!!

  • Thanks for the feedback. It is appreciated. Let me know if you have other 'dog' topics you'd like to see demonstrated in a video

  • Wow, you're awesome!! I do need a video on how to clean and clip my dog's muzzle. She gets gooey eyes from grass allergies and I have the hardest time keeping that area clean between groomings.

  • Great suggestion. I will see what I can do.

  • Great demo.

I liked how you explained getting beyond the powdery part.

I just recently got over my fear of doing my dogs nails....it feels like I climbed a mountain.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I also had to get over cutting my dog's toenails. It's still not my favorite thing to dog!!

    Susan Smith

  • Hi Susan,

    I am giggling.

I just finished a grooming course. It took me over 2 weeks before I'd do nails at the school. Then I'd just nibble.

Now that I am done & after hearing your explaination...I am driving my 2 little dogs nuts.

The one with the black nails is more willing to let me do her nails. The other one is a "baby" & cries no matter what or how I do them. And of course, she has dew claws too.

    Oh joy.

I love the gummy bear explanation.

    Thanks again, Vicki

  • Excellent video....I have been trying for years to cut my mastiffs nails and this was sooo much help. thanks
