  • agree - genius in the playing and composing

  • What wonderful little gems by a truly outstanding pianist!

  • Grande Gilels!

  • Only a true lyrical poet, can interpret a majestic poet, that is Grieg, that is Gilels!

  • Six days of recording sessions... Two of the greatest pianists and musicians on Earth in a state of grace... This selection of little, intimate pieces is simply a very, very rare gem...

  • Wow! I Love These! Gilels is one of my favorite artists!

  • @TheMikester307

Gilels has always been my N° 1 pianist.

Although he wasn't a 'perfect' pianist like Ashkenazy, Volodos etc., he was a GREAT musician!

    A cordial greeting,

    G. Dehoux.

  • ear appealing, tender, soft pieces , although rather short in length, these 69 pieces are united in 10 notebooks, the 1st book dates from 1867 and 1901 the last one.

  • @beethomozart

    Good morning!

Are you sure there arr 69 pieces ? I thought there were 66, but I should check it, again.

    Cordially,

    G. Dehoux.

  • These 20 lovely Lyric Pieces by Emil Gilels was the 2nd Gilels record I bought in my student years.

I still consider it as one of the most beautiful piano recordings ever made.

  • Fully agree!

It's a landmark recording, not only for Gilels but for the entire piano literature.

    Cheers!

  • I think is one of most beautiful piano recordings ever made, too.I am happy you think it.

  • @mazingerduke

Did you know actually Gilels didn't want to make this recording ?!

One of his arguments was: "No one will buy this, because no one is interested in these little pieces!"

Well, shortly after his legendary recording, these little musical jewels have become famous!

    Cordially,

    Geert Dehoux, pianist.

  • When, a few years later, I suggested him to make a recording of all 66 pieces, he clearly showed he didn't like the idea at all!

Although Emil was not an easy person..., he was one of the most wonderful pianists/musicians in history!

    A cordial greeting,

    G. Dehoux.

  • @geertdehoux Nice to hear from someone who knew him! I treasure his live recording from 1967!

    Yours,

    Mike

  • @TheMikester307

    Hello, Mike!

Do you mean you have some of these Grieg pieces live ?!

I know he performed them seldom in public!

By the way, I knew his daughter Elena well, too.

She was a very kind person.

    Friendly regards,

    Geert.

  • @geertdehoux Not live, but I have/used to have a cheap disc of assorted Grieg Lyric Pieces and I think Gilels was the player (I THINK!!) I do remember the label was Deutche Grammaphone...

  • @TheMikester307

    Yes, that's right!

    He recorded 20 of them.

    They appeared on D.G.G.

If you go to amazon.com, you'll find MANY Gilels CDs!

    Hope you'll enjoy them!

    Have a nice day,

    Geert.
