  • pritshom tut russkye just an estonyan story

  • shut up p......

  • Can someone please explain the story to me?Watching it I don't really understand.

  • Comment removed

  • @kll510 Read the second top comment on part one.

  • Those ships the bad guys had looked fucking beastly. The music at that part gave me serious chills...

  • It's a lot easier to understand this if you read the myth of Suur Toll.

  • meth anyone?

  • This is by far the most disturbing yet strangely beautiful thing I have ever seen.

  • wow, that sort of blew my mind....

  • That's just what Estonians have been going through centuries. Since ~1100, an average Estonian man wanted to have a farm and soil to cultivate, that's all. All intruders from Russia, Germany, Denmark and Sweden just ruined the harmony they had.. I mean, that's beautiful. It's not just a cartoon, it's great art in my opinion.

  • Are the red men supposed to symbolize the communist Russians?

  • @Midvinterblot542 nice try

  • @Midvinterblot542 Not really. I might have been a hidden message though, but the events take place much before communism.

  • mis vahet on kalevipojal ja suurer töllil?

  • @DispencahereBOINK

Paljugi on vahet.

  • for those who have no idea what's going on at 2:20 - 2:35 I don't blame you. It was only after I got the book I understood. Basically, Vanatühi has no where left to go, slowly steps back and falls into the water. So that's him drowning there. It looks really wierd... hope this helped somebody!

  • @dron48

    "подмылся" :)))

  • At least he defeated VANAPAGAN.

  • Suur Tõll

  • Death

When an enemy decapitated him, he put his head on his sword and walked to his grave, which is supposed to be somewhere in Tõlluste. When Tõll died, he promised to rise from grave and help people in case of war. But naughty children made fun of him by yelling "Tõll, Tõll, wake up, there is a war in the yard". Tõll rose, grew angry and went back to his grave, swearing never to come back

  • Theories

It is supposed that stories about Toell the Great are based on historical very tall elder of Saaremaa. Sometimes he is connected with local German (or Germanized) noble family Toll. Some members of that family are told to have been very tall (more than 2.10 meters).

  • He often visited his brother Leiger on the neighboring Hiiumaa (Dagö) island. He was so tall that he could almost walk there (The distance is something about 5 to 6 km long). His walking stick was a 5 sazhen (~10 meters or 35 foot) spruce tree trunk. Tõll was always kind and ready to help, but very hot-tempered. He loved to eat cabbages, drink beer and go to the sauna (his wife was always busy gathering him sauna stove rocks).

  • Legend

He lived in Tõlluste village with his wife Piret. He tossed huge rocks everywhere, mostly aiming for his archenemy Vanatühi or other enemies of Saaremaa people. Tõll was king of Saaremaa but he lived as common farmer.

  • Toell the Great [1] (Estonian: Suur Tõll) in Estonian mythology is a great giant hero who lived according to the legend on the Baltic Sea island of Saaremaa (Oesel).

  • does anyone care to translate the text into english? if it's not a hastle. I simply love the animation and the film, but I would love to understand what they were saying as well. thank you.

  • @VLADICADIDA Yes, I've uploaded the full video with subtitles in English (look under my videos; I couldn't post the URL here for some reason) — hope you like it; my English poetic writing skills are not the best though.

  • @eallik Thank you very much! You rock;)

  • @VLADICADIDA Actually I just realised there was already an existing one!

  • 3:37 cartoon dong LOL

  • Makes me think of the native Baltic peoples struggle Teutonic Knights, with the good giants being the Pagan Gods and the invaders/evil giants Being the Christian German invaders.

This being made in the soviet union i would not be surprised.

  • @Foxlover666 latgals and livonians surrendered when teutons arrived. only ones who resisted were estonians. saaremaa was the last remaining region in europe fighting the teutons.

  • @kalx007 if that is true why did Lithuanian became a power? they overcame the Teutonic attempt to take them over and they joined with the poles.

  • @Foxlover666 what i meant was northern europe. my bad.

  • @kalx007 oh, I thought Lithuanian was part of the Baltic people, are they in this case?

  • @Foxlover666ˇ

what do you mean by baltic people?

estonia and lithuania have basically no cultural relations. their languages arent related. history is quite different etc.

not to mention that lithuanians are very religious people, but estonians are the most atheistic people in the world. this should clarify who and how fought against teutons and christianity.

  • Your talked about the the Latgals and Livonians. The Latgals where Baltic and the Livonians where Finnish...I Know the Estonians are also Finnic, when I say Baltic I mean the area around the Baltic Sea and not just the Baltic race, forgive me.

So I mean Pre-German Prussia Lithuania Latvia and Estonia plus any regions I may have missed

  • @Foxlover666

well i can understand what you mean, but since all those countries you mentioned are really different, with different history - you cant really take them as one big "baltic" subject.

for me, baltics dosent mean anything, as i consider ourselves more northern people.

  • @kalx007 Well, yeah, you're right. Estonian is finno-ugric language, not Baltic/Balkanian. Latvia or Lithuania have way more in common with other Balkanian nations.

  • @GordonFreeMANness You are mixing up Balkan and Baltic. Balkan is Greece, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia etc.

  • Comment removed

  • @kalx007 Not atheistic, but secular; in other words, Estonians are agnostic, but nevertheless spiritual. Atheism is just another faith.

  • @kalx007 oh, I thought Lithuanian was part of the Baltic people, are they in this case?

  • That. Rocked.

  • note to self, don't kill a giant's wife.

  • @orlovkd

  • @JohnMorris8

  • Oh my God! They killed Suur Tôll!! YOU BASTARDS!!

  • @cthulhubaradanikto Way to spoil the ending, you cuntface.

  • Well...

    There's one thing I didn't understand...

Is "Tôll" really a christian? I don't think so...

    Tôll. Tôll. :)

Kôige parem selles videos on vanapagani silmad:D

  • That's what you should do with these commies, get the good quarterstaff and whip the shit out of them.

  • suurepärane! kunagi uskusin suurte tõllu.

  • I take back what I said on the last part. This is really good! Loved the story it told, and how well it was portrayed here! Thumps up for the person who made it.

  • Did the devil run away? Or was he swallowed up by the ground or something?

  • The Devil was chased to the sea where he drowned.

  • Ah, right, thanks

  • What did the choir say in the last minuets???

    Could someone translate, please.

    thx.

  • The head says:

"When war has reached the land again then come and wake me up. Then I will rise and help people."

  • Tänan väga!!! :-)

  • @Hobu123

    ........... He reminds me Ctulhu

  • @Hobu123

    So Toell is communism?

    That explains a lot.

  • @Galvanidze

Where is communism in that, lol

  • @Hobu123

German war has reached the land, glorious Stalin comes to the rescue.

Or vice versa, and Toell was Hitler!

  • @Galvanidze

This story about Tõll takes place centuries before any stalins.

  • @Feralia1987

    Translation of the choir textÖ

Should the enemy and war arrive again

    Come and wake me up

    Then I will rise again

    And come to your aid.

  • Thank you very much!! :-)

  • M-M-MONSTER KILL

  • 3:37

  • creepy

  • nice work :)

  • L.S.D.

  • Very good!!!

  • So cool.

  • Good movie, awesome soundtrack!

Suur Tõll rules- kicked Satan's ass if he was a mop you're washing a toilet with:)

Personally, I am sure that Suur Tõll isn't myth, he existed. There's numerous documents still available today that indicate a huge growth war hero, supposedly from western part of Estonia. The man was nearly 2.40 in height, weighted almost 500 pounds and could lift two grown men with one arm easily... If this behemoth wasn't Suur Tõll, then who was he?

  • Anyone else feel sorry for that big bastard?

  • I do.

    Holy tits is he awesome.

  • But when to be exact, this is not all estonian epic. This is story from island Saaremaa. Legend of those islanders. And people from island Hiiumaa had their own heroe, who`s name was Leiger. People who lived on estonian mainland had Kalevipoeg (real name Sohni or Soini). Setu people had Peko.

  • Oh god my mind just got brutally raped.

  • Wait, did he defeat the enemies army or not?

  • He did and he died, but promised to come back if needed (from death realm).

  • But after some kids kept trolling him about an army being at the shore, he now just doesn't give a damn when we ask for his help.

"Шекспир и племянники")))

  • yes, this is as far as boreal mythological cartoon can go. art is by Jyri Arrak who is very christian by the way. my grandfather used to know the parts of the song about Suur Tõll who lived in the island of Hiiumaa (Land Of Giants) - same story as in cartoon. And estonian punk band The Shitheads had a song "Suur Tõll" - the chorus was just like in the cartoon "Big Tõll come help, enemy´s invading the country." I think it´s time for Big Tõll to rise again...

  • Also Metsatöll has a song "Saaremaa vägilased" about him

  • Can someone translate what is said when his head turns to stone?

  • Apparently it's to the effect of 'Wake me up if the country needs me again'. Like the King Arthur legend kinda.

  • According to legend people have yelled that the country needs defending so many times when it didn't, just to prank, that he no longer litsens.

  • @

    NeglectedField

''When the war comes to these lands again, then come, wake me up. Then I'll arise and help my people.''

  • Thanks!

I'll be back..."

  • exactly :))))

  • He said: When enemy would come again, call me and I will help.

  • It says: When it will be war again, then come, and wake me. Sure i'll rise and help my people

  • cool. my childhood favorites. very notfromrhisworld-ish

  • I'd love to see this with subtitles

  • Wow, nice shot of Tyll's penis about 3 and a half minutes in.

  • Who was the taget audience for this?

  • Kids, apparently

  • Wow.

    Most awesome kids cartoon.....EVER.

Seriously, it's incredibly fucked up, but owns SO HARD.

  • This was adult cartoon, but most kids still watched it.

  • Wow. That was badass.

    So much blood.

  • This is beyond far out...it's completely off the charts...

  • Wow dude this Tyll guy kicks ass! So is that a real rock formation IRL or what

  • That was pretty awesome.

  • i like it. there's nothing impressive about the technique, it's the story. it's so foreign, but you kinda get into what's going on.

  • the way Tõll looks for his head .... in a film made some years later I have seen a similar motif. guess which?

  • Tell which?

  • Princess Mononoke. it is not to say there is any connection, just a weird similarity
