  • WOW!!!

  • this is so cool to see and hear like this!!!!! I didn't realize the guitar part nearly as much listening to the album, thanks for posting!!!!!!!

  • Steve has the most amazing guitar hands. WOW. I absolutely love how he emphasizes his chords with JUST the right staccato at perfect times. A true guitar legend!!!

  • This man is beyond genius--he created a whole new guitar vocabulary! Truly amazing-- and he doesn't get enough credit for what he has done, not just for the art of guitar, but for music as a whole.

  • Absolutely amazing musician and composer! He makes it looks so easy, but just try doing this yourself, even if you are a musician.

  • Absolutely amazing musician and composer!

  • Can you still buy this DVD that this came from?

  • AYFKM!!

  • Mr. Howe this is one of me favorite songs from Yes, thanks for putting these demonstrations on YT. Masters of rock.

  • You have always rocked and will live forever in the souls, hearts and minds you've touched. Thanks my friend. I am definitely in debt to you for all the enjoyment you've provided me. Hopefully the albums I purchased at least got you lunch! Best wishes always! Sincerely...

  • yes everyone is right

  • Absolutely brilliant, one thing though, I always thought the bassline was E F# G A B D' C#' A E' D' C#' B A **G#** F# E, ie, implying a *major* scale on the way down, at least that's what Chris plays... can some confirm this or am I just delusional? :P

  • @ratsouffle

Almost spot on except for one note. This is the correct note pattern.

    E F# G A B D C#' B A E D' C#' B A G F# E

On the second riff he does a hammeron/pulloff on the A/B notes then a G pulloff to E on the 6th string (I think it sounds right)

    Keep Rockin,

    --Joey

  • @Squammish Thanks, that is indeed exactly what Steve plays in the video, what I'm referring to though is that Chris' bass line in the original recording is *different* to this; ie, it goes up through E minor and down again through E major, whereas this goes up in E minor and down again in E minor. The note I wanted to draw attention to is the G# 3 notes from the end, which is pretty clearly sharpened throughout the whole of the original song, but in this is played more 'normally' as a G natural.

  • @ratsouffle What Steve Howe is playing in this instructional video (this I believe is off some Steve Howe software that was sold around 1999-2000) is one note wrong. Like some have pointed out, on the way "up" of the main riff that matches Squire's baseline it's E Minor, but on the way down it's supposed to be E Major. Howe is playing a regular G instead of a G sharp.

What Squire plays is the right riff.

  • catch Steve and the boys on tour this summer. Steve is doing double duty in some of the shows with Asia. Is dis guys some kinds of super being?

  • The first is similar to Focus's "Sylvia" beginning riff.

  • bravo

  • Does anyone know which chords is he playing at 0:20 till 0:29? It would help me a lot!!

  • E minor, D, C, D.

E minor (bar chord version), B minor, A major, G major.

  • Thank you!!

  • I convinced that when he plays the D chord, he does not finger the F sharp on high E string and instead plays a an open E string. chord (DADE). I also think he plays the E minor and D (addE) on the top four strings.

  • @pschroeter1 I think it's called Dsus

  • does anyone know where i can find tabs or a video lesson that breaks the song down and shows you what to do?

  • Just google for "tempus fugit yes tab" go down 911tabs and download it. It's easy and I clean up the song by reading it! Now I can play it very well!

  • Well everyone can bitch, but you play better than me! Nice work dude! We can't ALL be Steve Howe! Or can we? Oh, I know they'll be some "genius who knows better" comments. Put out an album & we'll talk. Thanks for the lesson man. Good for you! Keep rocking! PEACE!!!!!!

  • thats a riff.

  • surely they are, look at the fingers dude

  • ITS HOWE, RETARD SON OF A BITCH

  • That's right! Doesn't anyone bother to check out who posted it? I want to thank HoweE175 for purchasing the $70 cd-rom with Steve Howe's guitar work shown as above - Thanks man!

  • Steve- Thank you so much for posting these. I have been a YES fan since hearing "I see you" when I was a boy living in Newport Beach. We had a Danish housekeeper that was a YES fan.

Thanks to her and to you for so many great songs, concerts and memories. I hope you keep rocking 'til you're 100! Hope to see you again soon in So. Cal. Let's hope Jon is with you.......

  • Antonio Forcione? Give me a break...

Doing other folks music..... Anyone can do covers but what makes a master is the creativity. Howe is a very creative and talented musician.... I would give a foot for Steve's hands......

  • whenever i see these videos i just wonder how on earth you write this stuff. This is no simple power chord crap. This is carefully calculated and educated note patterns that only steve howe can write.

  • @onlymodestmouse really not that impressive, wanna see impressive look up guthrie govan

  • @MrRichardNoggin There are tons of guys that have technique and sound like guthrie govan. He kind of reminds me of Steve Morse of the Dixie Dregs. A great technician on the guitar with a sterile processed guitar sound. Steve Howe has a very unique sound because of the hollow body and his chord and solo progressions. Its like Chet Atkins meets rock and roll. Nothing at all like a Guthrie govan. There are licks on the Yes Relayer album that are unlike anything I've heard from a guthrie or morse.

  • @onlymodestmouse and yes it is simple powerchord stuff haha

  • @onlymodestmouse you do know that steve howe is playing this right (not to sound dumb)

  • @onlymodestmouse Digg it. It's called genius.

  • Hey, Great Job on the Post's man!

    Keep em' coming.

Just From Wathing these I've learned two songs that I cant find Tabs for.

    Once again,

    Great Job!

  • I want that guitar, haha.

  • it's an electric, the famous ES 175, which is part of the name of the submitter of this video.

  • YEAH!!! I really appreciate you showing us these moves, Steve. You do it so effortlessly that I'm just laughing at my lack of talent. LOL!!

  • Thank you Steve. Another treat for all of us.

Not that I could ever do justice to any of these, but they sure are fun to watch. Very creative pieces all. You have added enduring sonic quality to the world of Rock and (art rock) Roll. Hope to see you on the West coast soon..

  • Wow!! Thanks for posting these (Steve?). I hope I can find 'Yours is No Disgrace'...or 'Into the the Lens'. It would be awesome if you would play the solos too!

  • Anybody know where I can find the tab or learn (video) Yours Is No Disgrace ?? I bought the Complete Yes Book, but, it doesn't have the guitar parts. It has arrangements for piano.

  • what a treat to have these videos of howe playing up close like this!! great tutorial. thanks for sharing this material.

  • wow fantastic, thanks so much, I couldn't figure this out at all.

  • I am beginning to wonder. These are all so well done.
