I have been reading the comments and have a few things to say. One, yes we did go to war b/c of the piracy. Two, but the Muslims attacked, kidnapped and ransom b/c we were Christians. For hundreds of years countries went to war with one another for no others reason then religion. To the Muslims all westerners were Christian and free game. The US was the first country for religious freedom and knew going to war only for religious was wrong.
We were and still are a christen nations, just not a European one but an American one. Some like to misquote the treaty of Tripoli to say we are not a christen nation. They only quote the first part: “As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion…”. But the whole goes like this:

What it saying is that we are not going to war with you on religious grounds. So while we still are an American Christian nation, and we will fight to protect ourselves, we are not fighting against any religion. We may fight those who will use their religion as the reason to attack us, but we will not attack anyone or any country solely b/c of religion.

You miss the historical content. It saying were not founding on the Christian religion as it was done in Europe. In Europe just being of a different religion or demonization of the Christian faith was enough to go to war. At least give them some credit in recognising that they have their own ideology, independent of the West. This goes back 1400 years, not to the 50s. Trade does help spread a nations good will and promotes general understanding of each other. Not to mention it makes us rich. The nations with the deepest pockets generally win wars. I guess Allah told foretold of America's founding and he felt he had to do something. That's the only way I could link us to his actions.

@realnarutoboy Yeah, realistically we can never kill all the people that hate us enough to kill innocent Americans unless you kill all Muslims. That is why I said that. I know what we have been doing. I know our goals and the stupid rules of engagement. I feel with the rules of engagement, the costly nation building, and the illogical attempts to kill an idea are doomed to fail. We just don't have the money for all these wars. We are better served protecting our borders.

I'm opposed to a war in Afghanistan and recognize that hosting three different wars isn't exactly conducive to a quality economy/nation.

@realnarutoboy No because that is not what I believe. I don't believe our military is anything like that. I believe they, as well as you, are mislead by government officials who take no responsibility for their actions. 6 wars. Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya. At least those are wars that I know for certain that we are engaged in. If you don't think the first three are wars I can link the definition used in the constitution. One could claim the first four are one war.

The same type of person that will go on an entire rant about how America has killed upwards of 500, 000 people, then deny having disdain for the very individuals that carried it out. I have been reading the comments and have a few things to say. One, yes we did go to war b/c of the piracy. Two, but the Muslims attacked, kidnapped and ransom b/c we were Christians. For hundreds of years countries went to war with one another for no others reason then religion. To the Muslims all westerners were Christian and free game. The US was the first country for religious freedom and knew going to war only for religious was wrong.

What it saying is that we are not going to war with you on religious grounds. So while we still are an American Christian nation, and we will fight to protect ourselves, we are not fighting against any religion. We may fight those who will use their religion as the reason to attack us, but we will not attack anyone or any country solely b/c of religion.

You miss the historical content. It saying were not founding on the Christian religion as it was done in Europe. In Europe just being of a different religion or demonization of the Christian faith was enough to go to war. B/c the next part say “it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen”. The Bible and the Christian religion does not tell to go to wars with others base on different beliefs or laws.
