Why are only the jobs of oil workers being considered? Are they more important than the fishermen and those who rely on tourism for a living? What about these jobs? These people had no choice. Their life was ripped out from under them!

So, let's play roulette with the earth and drill baby drill! Oil workers are obviously more important than the rest of us working slobs!

And the moratorium was only for new drilling; not the already-producing wells!

The only reason they drill in deep water is to preserve the illusion it is somehow safer.

Clearly, it is not.

@RogerOnTheRight I am using my head. This is not science. This is Big Oil blindly drilling with no back up plan! Ideology has nothing to do with it. Reality is that marine life is being destroyed, ecosystems destroyed, hundreds of thousands of peoples' livelihoods destroyed, possible toxic rain, possible oil hurricanes, anxiety, fear, worry, panic, starvation, relocation, air quality, water quality... need I go on?

This all is not worth "gambling" on..... not again...... not ever!

@KingMeezer You miss my point. The original failure here is of government. The only reason we drill in deep water is because government doesn't want drilling closer to land, even though closer to land is clearly safer.

Actually, ideology is at the root of all of this. Anti-oil is a pipe dream, so to speak. Those non-oil jobs also depend on plentiful, cheap energy.

So, let's just get the stuff where we can do so safely and cheaply. Save all the jobs, not just those of government.

We have to drill in more dangerous waters because business refuses to invest in other technologies to free us of oil. You start with a failed premise, and you fail. Time to wake up, Roger.

Deep water is available only because shallow water is off limits. And land drilling is also highly restricted.

Business won't invest heavily in "alternative" technologies because such energy sources are too expensive. Oil is efficient and relatively cheap.

Leftists know this, so they endeavour to make oil more expensive, artificially with legal obstacles.
