I'll keep this short. I would say this video is 30% truth, and 70% bluster. Thing is, that 30% is what counts because it's the reason why the African-American people are in the shape we're in today. High unemployment, high rate of children born out of wedlock, high rate of AIDS (among AA women) and list goes on. These videos were created to make you think, think about the state of Black America and to wake up.

You're definitely speaking of very resourceful human beings. You have to consider the fact that women in most communities make up the higher percentage of those attempting post high school education. They then become more productive in American society. It is very important that black women in urban areas get edu. opportunities, kind of what Oprah got with TSU. In the end, it's not about relationships, but it's about survival. They get educated, they survive, general humanity gets better.

I looked for an intelligent, articulate woman who knew her "place" was at my side, making rational decisions. We argue, but she does not nag. We've been together for 25 years, and married for 22 of those. Our first child was born 4 years INTO the marriage. Neither of us has children outside of it.

Also not mentioned: some "free" blacks owned slaves. Union General U.S. Grant had slaves. Confederated General Robert E. Lee did not. He detested slavery. You're definitely speaking of very resourceful human beings. You have to consider the fact that women in most communities make up the higher percentage of those attempting post high school education. They then become more productive in American society. It is very important that black women in urban areas get edu. opportunities, kind of what Oprah got with TSU. In the end, it's not about relationships, but it's about survival. They get educated, they survive, general humanity gets better.

I looked for an intelligent, articulate woman who knew her "place" was at my side, making rational decisions. We argue, but she does not nag. We've been together for 25 years, and married for 22 of those. Our first child was born 4 years INTO the marriage. Neither of us has children outside of it.

I don't know where you live. I live in Pittsburgh and yes both 5 and 2 are very true. Most men I meet have some type of issues going on. Either they are on there way to jail, or they have alot of kids. Or they are in some type of Drug or alcohol

I read just a few of the comments, and I'd like to point out a few things:
"Husbands/Fathers" raise their children to be responsible, not "problematic" men, because they, themselves, are responsible. "Babydaddies" don't raise them, if they did, they'd be called "Husbands", then "Fathers".
I am not a mixed-raced black man, but I do know that the operative term is "role model".
My wife and I are currently raising two young men. You would know them by their manners, respect, & GPAs: 3.3 & 3.4.

Too often, people believe that they can buy some exotic, expensive gift, and that makes them a good person. Chances are that it is what happened to them. It is not gender-specific, either. It's just that boys who are not responsible for their actions become men who are not responsible, leaving the woman to care for the child.

I agree with you. The problem is the way history is written. What is not mentioned about slavery is that some Native Americans were taken as slaves. Also not mentioned: some "free" blacks owned slaves. Union General U.S. Grant had slaves. Confederated General Robert E. Lee did not. He detested slavery. To top all this, the Underground Railroad was conceived by a White abolitionist, a Quaker named Levi Coffin, not Harriet Tubman, who was merely a conductor, albeit a very, very good one...

I don't feel comfortable with the notion that I'm "a good black woman" who isn't singlehanded destroying black people while single mothers and, somehow, oprah IS.
Being a well educated individual in itself is an accomplishment which should be praised, admired, and followed. But in no way am I flattered by that while women as a whole are being shat on by this man.
There are many more factors to the current struggles within the black community than this guy is making it out to be.

There was nothing patriarchal OR degrading about those videos. If anything, they were insightful and informative, but people like you REFUSE to see the truth when you are confronted with it, which is why the black woman of today is a complete and utter laughing stock. You misunderstood the videos totally and if anything, they alluded to the inexorable matriarchal tendencies of the black woman and NOT the patriarchy of the black man.

I understand what this man was saying, and I think it was full of offensive crap.
Watching twenty minutes of a butthurt black man go on about how baby mamas, loud mouths, and oprah are ruining black america is just idiotic. Yes, starting a family and having children when you're unprepared is a big problem, and the black community is struggling with that, this is effing OBVIOUS. I pity anyone who believe that the black woman is the problem of the black community. The problems are due to the white man. I don't blame the white man cause blame can't undo history and it just makes you angrier. There are far more problematic men in the community than women. I am sure that he will put out another series about black men or I will. However, This is indeed the case as it relates to the other half. It's sad and like he said you just have to move on, with your life. It will work it way back out, however this will take 1.5 to 2 generations from now. The have to see that it does not work for themselves, grow old alone then reflect. Only then can they advise there granddaughters to shut the F up.
