  • PRETExTUAL STOP Great Concept Indeed There is Always the Danger of: Jay Walking Crack on a Window Improper Left Turn Improper Right Turn Littering Loitering Drunk Power Walking Drunk Jogging Bus Stop Impeding Traffic Etc., Etc., Etc.,
  • you are correct, if there were true arguments then we would have something real to evaluate...right now all I see are mountains made of mole hills. Should your worries manifest

  • @gollyanamegame My worry is that these people in positions of authority who have alternate agendas are riling up groups of people ... and to what end? Spouting inaccurate information, twisting the facts, creating hate.... Is illegal immigration a problem? Yes. Is what is happening in Arizona the answer? NO. The ship is sunk and we are talking about patching the hole...

  • @gollyanamegame I can honestly say that I don't know what the best anwer to the issue is. Personally, I would start at the border. I would not; however, implement a law that contradicts itself and stirs fear among any specific sector of its citizens.

  • @gollyanamegame If the law requires any and all persons in the state of Arizona to carry documentation and that each person will be asked for it, then I agree. If it is left to the discretion of the police who can easily misinterperate the intent- especially if they can be sued for for the appearance of NOT asking for ID from someone who has an alternate interpretation of the law.

  • @AwesomeDelValle whats your point..47 states require ID when in public..and watch Cops on the FOX network, they ask everyone for ID when they pull the vehicle over, every time.

  • @gollyanamegame Yes, there is such regulation in most states. Have you ever (other than a traffic stop) been asked to show your ID by a police officer? I have been in several states and ended up speaking with police officers for various reasons over the years and--even as a witness to a crime--have never been asked for my ID --EXCEPT for the one time I was asleep on a greyhound bus.

  • @gollyanamegame -- so I was younger, asleep on the bus after a long night of tequila in Southern Cali-- had my ID under the bus in my bags-- was sporting a fab tan and I have dark brown hair. INS boarded the bus and thought I was hispanic. They pulled me off the bus (not gently) and told me they were deporting me. I cried because I don't know anyone in Mexico. They said my DL wasn't proof of my legality. I speak perfect American English without an accent of any kind.

  • @AwesomeDelValle yet you made your way back to the states and learned a lesson to boot..life is funny that way

  • @gollyanamegame LOL--- they didn't actually deport me, just roughed me up a bit. I did learn a lesson, it stinks to be profiled. (I also learned not to let my "Italian" temper get the best of me when being provoked by an unreasonable law enforcement agent) I also learned how easily the facts can be misconstrued. The human mind sees what it wants to see-- not always what is really there.

  • @gollyanamegame I think that if it is a law to show ID then everyone should be held accountable, not just select individuals. Are there provisions for times when a person's wallet is stolen or lost? And how does one prove that the wallet/purse was stolen?

  • was never an issue to any one who read the bill

  • @gollyanamegame I've read the bill SB1070-- not Sb2162 (yet) and it is very clear that racial profiling is going to be involved. Whether it is an intended consequence or an unintended consequence is the question. Now that Arizona is targeting teachers with accents it would appear that the consequence was intedended

  • @AwesomeDelValle House Bill 2281 declares that a school district or charter school in the state cannot include in its program of instruction any course or classes that include any of the following:

    1. Promote the overthrow of the United States government;

    2. Promote resentment toward a race or class of people;

    3. Are designed primarily for pupils of a particular ethnic group;

    4. Advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.

  • @gollyanamegame I didn't mention HB 2281. Nor have I read it. I have, however, seen Russell Pearce speak regarding accents in the classroom. It is appalling. I'm not entirely sure it is included in that HB 2281 or a different bill. I just took it from the horses mouth so to speak. As far as the list of 4-- I agree with the top two-- I disagree with the bottom two. Numbers 3 and 4 are both poorly worded and ambinguous.

  • @AwesomeDelValle Yesterday he was also on CNN and argued that he isn’t targeting teachers with accents — just people who use “faulty English.” However, the “faulty English” he cited was an example of someone having an accent:

    HORNE: We’re not going after any accents, including Spanish accents. It has to be faulty English. If students are being taught English, and they’re going to refer to a “comma” as a “COH-ma,” people are going to misunderstand them.

  • @gollyanamegame I meant ambiguous-- type-0

  • @gollyanamegame The interview I saw he said these people are "illiterate on English". I thought is apropos that he couldn't be bothered with proper grammar while making this claim. Also, correct me if I am wrong but illiterate is unable to read well or uneducated. It is my understanding that teachers must go to college to obtain degress in order to teach.

  • @AwesomeDelValle just because some one teaches writing, that doesn't make them an author. one should not knit pike ..The interview I saw he said these people are "illiterate on English". I thought is apropos that he couldn't be bothered with proper grammar

  • @gollyanamegame I'm not nit picking--- I just believe that if one is going to criticize others on the American language then he or she should have better skills than those which he or she is criticizing. Also, he is not the easiest man to understand. He speaks like he has something chronically in his mouth. The problem here is that his logic is flawed and emotionally based. If there were true arguments then I would have something real to evaluate.

  • @AwesomeDelValle Ummm, no NOT "SB2162", H-B-2162. For your edification, google SB1070-HB2162.PDF and enjoy. Those who do not read will never be educated. Press 1 for English, please...

  • @submix8c Hence my saying that I had not read it. It's a shame you can't tell the difference between a type-O and a language barrier. I'd rather press 1 for American-- I've never been to England.

  • @AwesomeDelValle Good one! I'd personally be glad for the "good-old days" of not wearing my finger out for the sake of a button. Interestingly, this phenomenon still insists on asking "Press 2 for Spanish" in... ENGLISH (woot)!
