i saw the first part in China 2 weeks ago and i have to say that IT IS AWESOME!! every part of the movie was smart, beautiful and AMAZING action. in china it is going to be 2 parts of 2 hours each and the American version is going to be one 2.5 hours movie. the movie is THE BEST Romance of the 3 Kingdoms movie of all time!!
Futhermore the actor who acted Zhuge Liang is a japanese. Even if the nationality of actor is not important, but, who's Zhuge Liang? A great politician, military counselor, genius, the most intelligent man in Three Kingdoms! But in the film ... ...
The director of this film said he will make a official history film, but why he had put Sun Shangxiang in the film? It's no sense! Shangxiang was Sun Quan's sister, and she had do nothing in this battle!
But we can't find any information about this person. Gan Ning's father is not recorded in the official history... And he's father must have about 55 old while the Battle of Chibi...
My friend guessed this can be the other name of Gan Ning (Gan Xingba), but with a clerical error.
You should watch your words. It is a movie after all and you don't have to be so irrated by some small details. And Legend is right, Zhuge Liang is immortalized by the book. He was not someone who knows everything and if he did, Su would of conquered the Wei. The movie is not based on the book but by the more realist recording Sanguozhi or Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms.
I think That they should also make a movie on kongming's northern campaigns starting from obtaining jiang wei as an apprentice to his final conflict with Sima yi... watching their strategies come to life would be the greatest thing since sliced bread...
You're best chance is to buy a dvd or have someone to help you. watch a preview online will help if someone manages the subtitles. the second part of the movie won't be out until the Games finishes.
You should be able to watch a full part 1 version online if not in your local cinemas. If you're lucky, those who uploaded the movie online may include english subtitles.
i have to own this movie.i guess woo will produce a directors cut with even more footage than the asian version, mostly battles like in windtalkers.and that dvd will hit the whole world.
If it is the best 9 minutes, it is going to be a very long film. Westerners may need to do some research about the tactics used by Zhugi Liang in the film before watching it. Hope John Woo won't be ruined by big money from China this time. An other grand project by China to raise national pride.
Eagerly anticipating the scene where Zhuge Liang commands the east wind, at Changban, Zhao Yun saving A Dou killing 50 of Cao Cao generals and elite cavalry men alone, Zhang Fei scaring of the army of elite cavalry with a roar at Danyang brigde, 100,000 civilian fleeing from Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang's eloquence with Zhou Yu and Sun Quan, borrowing the arrow from Cao Cao incident, the ploy by Huang Gai and Zhou Yu to root out traitors and many more series of event that led to the greatest battle ever.
dude this is just Chibi. Zhao Yun wont be saving A Dou and Zhang Fei wont be roaring lol. thats way before this battle, they already pass the Jing Zhou area by now.
Didn't you see part of the clip why Zhao Yun was trying to save a baby in the preview, and they even talk to Zhou Yu describing their battle encounters with Cao Cao on their battle at Xin Yi. They and they even have seen of the fleeing civilians from City manned by Liu Cong the scene also from Xin Yi.
also, Zhao Yun never met any adversaries during his rescue of A Dou, lol. In the historical record of San Guo Zhi, Zhao Yun was lucky and didnt encounter the Cao Army when he went to rescue A Dou. Again, his battle with Cao's 1 million army was based on the historical novel, not the actually historical record. Of course, the novel is 70% history and 30% fictionalized. thats why its called "Romance" of the Three Kingdoms. Rescuing A Dou was real, fighting Cao's army was made up!
Love this promo video, especially the part where Zhuge liang commands the east wind in the novel.... interesting but more like he predicted the the east wind movements because of the conflict of the wind current, which they dubbed the period as second spring of the year. This movie will be highly anticipated because the strategic significance of the battle is beyond many comprehension, from Zhuge liang's eloquence and vast knowledge both domestic and military to Zhou Yu tactical brillance.
actually Zhuge Liang being a strategist is more realistic in the Novel then the actual history. In the actual San Guo Zhi, Shuge Liang was a better politician then a strategist. And according to history, he was never present in this battle. Only in Romance of the Three Kingdoms (a novel written by Luo Guang Zhong before Ming Dynasty started) was Zhuge Liang immortalized as a strategist.
And i didn't say he was a brilliant strategist, but he is good one anyway, with the amount of knowlegde he had, he can apply it in battle which happens the wind condition of the area he predicted led to using of fire as pricipal weapon to fight against his fleet but his better in his linguist and eloquence in roping the help of Sun Quan, Pang Tong, and Zhou Yu that were vital to Cao Cao's defeat at the battle of Chi Bi.
but he didnt predicted the win, historically he was never present during the battle of Chi Bi. Huang Gai was the one who proposed the fire attack to Zhou Yu, and Zhou Yu was the one who launched the attack. None of their biography even mentioned Zhuge Liang being there, and Zhuge Liang's own biography didnt even match the timeline of this battle. His presence is fictionalized by Luo Guang Zhong in his Romance of the Three Kingdoms Novel.
i never say he predicyed it, but its already afact known by the locals that he insisted that fire was a suitable weapon. And i didn't say the Zhao Yun Scene is true, i knew it was fictionalised, but the movie did include the scene while you say it didn't.
ahh bad communications. the movie isnt released yet, so i assumed that Zhao Yun wouldnt be rescuing A Dou in a movie devoted to CHiBi. My bad on that one.
But I disagree that the locals (locals in Wu Kingdom?) knew what Kongming was thinking. The reason is because Zhuge Liang didnt participate in any of the ChiBi battle, so there was no historical record about him and Chibi;therefore, how did the locals know if it was never recorded in history?
Zhu ge liang was a strategist, not an inventor, Both the repeating crossbow and latern were invented much much earlier. For example, repeating crossbows were widely used by warring states period, which proceed the fall of han dynasty by 600 years.
i dont know but i think that real history can also be the myths that come along with it so im not at all mad of the fact that kongming summons the southeastern wind or that T'sao T'saos army was more than three million so i think with that the movie should be very flipping awesome...
they consider making one 2,5 hour movie of this for foreign release.but the original is between 4 and 5 hours and will be split up in two movies.please don´t f*** it up for us.
if woo sustains the drama, it's a great comeback for sure!
zhang fengyi rocks like the highest caliber artist, so good to have him back. tony's dub sounds nothing like him! takeshi & chang chen look their parts, but talk like they're in contemporary urban movies.

I think she was there more for the tie between Sun Quan and Liu Bei. It just adds more drama for the viewers. =D

well, for a history film... that would be too much drama
almost pulling a almost non existing part of hstory into the main stage
I mean. there's only a handful of information about her,
besides the fact that she's a pretty tough girl and married liu bei
almost nothing. the name is not even mentioned, that came from folk stories
and you can't really call folk story offical history
because that'll mean you have to reconginze the significant historic fact in snowhite....

its not even bout the helmet in that andy lau movie
its historically, and geographically inaccurate, i didn't want to watch the rest after seeing the chang ban puo part

I dont this film,
it distort the real history!
The main actors of this film are the Stars which some young Chinese people loved very much, but they don't possess a good acting,
it's not a good way to represent the Chinese history to the foreigners by the Stars effect!
Gan Xing don't exist in the threes kingdoms!
(I guessed if this name is not well orthographized, can it be Gan Ning, a general of Wu, or Guan Xing, Guan Yu's son?)
mitochondrie126 3 years ago
Gan Xing is actually Gan Ning's dad. There is such person..
xia0zhu87 3 years ago
historicly exist???
Gan Ning was not a Wu officer to begin with
he defected to Wu after
so by that he's dad shouldn't be(not to mention the age)
but...what's a random old, but young looking general that was on no one's side doing fighting on the side of wu for eandom reason?

it's not based on that
but an novelist impression on how would each person be like
couse the chronicles are not really detailed on anything
so just as the romance is a wild imagination
this movie is also
so forgive them for adding some pretty unrealistic, modern thoughts into the movie
couse we are not supposed to know what they were like in person, and making a historic replica, although more accurate, will not sell well
