  • Trying to tab this. Hardest song I've ever tabbed.

  • stolen parts from John Lord's Sarabande it seams??? but then again who cares, its sweet!!

  • Isn't two mesured of 4/8 just 4/4? XD

Kidding, this is awesome and I still regret not selling a kidney to buy a ticket.

  • I NEED TO HEAR THE WHOLE THING

  • "Yeah i play in 4/4 too." Hahaha!

  • Hi Jordan, since the premiere of "Explorations" is the 19th of november and this is also my 42. birthday I think it would be a great birthday present if you fly a fellow musician (me!) over to tape and film your performance to share it with the rest of the world ... so what do you say? Deal? Hey, it's my birthday ... oh, c'mon! Jordan! Say yes! Ohhh c'mon ... :-) Seriously now: Is there a livestream available?

A fan and fellow musician from Munich

  • Jordan, whatever it is in your life, it's always progressive.

  • I loved that riff! Specially when counted, that's so fun to play!! regards, Andre

  • YOU PLAY IN 4/4!?!? NO WAY, DON'T BELIEVE IT.

  • I couldn't even memorize those counts while playing the triangle or tambourine. Man, I'm an f'n hack.

  • @ctcassidy You can't run before you can walk.. Let alone sprint into flight... Practice is ze only way my friend.

  • 4/4 TIME????? WHAAAAAAT???

  • 233 people like it, 0 don't.

So that makes a like:unlike ratio of infinity :)

  • the first part of the melody reminds me of the whacky bit in "count of tuscany"

  • "...Yes, even I play in 4/4..."

    Lol xD

  • see you tomorrow! XD

  • Last night I recognized this part in the concert and I started counting.....or at least i tried to! hahaha....Jordan last night was amazing, thank you so much!

  • i'd love to hear a studio version of this along with a live version, either one will be great, i just want to hear this piece because i'm very into orchestral music and i love progressive music and putting them together like this is just amazing. i'm thinking you've probably already got plans to record this because you've worked so hard and long on it but just in case you don't, we al want to hear the whole thing!

  • @ironwolg also, a score would be an amazing thing to look at haha i'd love to run through it and analyze it and show it to my music theory teacher, i think she might pass out lol

  • Jordan...the next tuesday 16 on hard rock cafe in venezuela.....can we take pictures with you.....????!!!

  • LOL 4/4... NOOB!

JK i fuckin love you jordan! :D

  • The keys of the piano moves? Sometimes looks like the keys are moving. Someone here know what is this?

  • @neemiasteixeira The soft pedal on a grand piano moves the hammer and key action over to not play all of the strings to achieve a softer dynamic.

  • @tekkentool true, I had forgoten about this pedal. Thanks

  • waiting for you in Venezuela jordan:)

  • It's really nice how you combine the different signatures without it sounding like it's cut off prematurely, it just sounds so natural. Usually when you listen to technical music, you're instantly "oh look at that, it's in 9/8", because the band is all in your face about it. There's something special about doing it in a subtle way where it just starts to sound like the bars are flowing into each other at some strange pace, but without discontinuities.

  • Please bring the Explorations for Brasil!! We really want to see this concert!

  • sounded amazing man, i really want to hear the entire thing but it's impossible for me to go the concert =/

  • 7/16 5/8 4/4 7/16 7/16 4/8 4/8

love the metre changes ^ ^

  • Please make a dvd of this! It sounds incredible all on its own, I can't even comprehend how it will sound with a full orchestra behind it!

  • Please make a dvd of this! It sounds incredible all on its own, I can't even comprehend how it will sound with a full orchestra behind it!

  • PLEASE RELEASE A DVD OF THIS! This is sounding amazing, I can't imagine how much more amazing it will sound with a full orchestra behind it

  • damn i just had an eargasm

Please give us some sheet music, or maybe a midi file of the complete thing. At least after the premier. PLEASE! Rlw3ninja wants this for Christmas

  • I want to go just SO MUCH for the concert, but won't be possible T.T

  • After my "journey" back home from the University on a cold wet day of 30 miles, waking up to you makes life well worth it. Thank you Jordan.

  • so.... what the hell is the orchestra going to do? the players are pretty much fucked, unless theyre used to playing stravinsky on a regular basis

  • I'm so jealous of your musical skills T.T

    you're awesome, still.

  • Jordan are you using the Zoom Q3 or the iphone to record this video?

Sounds soo amazing anyway, seriously! So emotional.

Will there be a chance for the rest of the world to hear this?

    Greetings from Germany

  • @JCRUDESS he has point Jordan... I know it must be a pain to manage all the logistics of hiring a camera crew, sound guys, then editing and distributing the footage but you would it be financially worh it? maybe...That would be the next best thing other than watching you do this here in Toronto. Good luck with everything

  • @JCRUDESS maybe both?

  • @JCRUDESS im picturing the show as being a deep, dark, crazy, roller coaster of classical madness, coming from todays wizard motzart! rock on!

  • @JCRUDESS Neither, Jordan :O I don't think you understand, we need to hear/see this show!

  • I just bought my ticket the very first day waiting for such a great show, this not only confirms it but also excites me in so many ways...

I also think that this should be at least recorded as a bootleg for those who can't go.

  • you compose this stuff .. :o jesus :L

  • I like that there are *7* measures covered with the majority of them being in *7*/16 and there are currently *7* pages of comments! lucky sevens!!!

  • ...and my comment apparently has 147 characters which is a multiple of 7... win!

  • i would give my left testicle to be able to go to this concert :(

  • we are waiting for you in venezuela! its gonna be awesome!! viva venezuela!!

  • After seen you playing some average times, now I can understand what's going on. Thanks for sharing this with us Jordan!

  • "even I play 4/4" haha, that made me laugh!!

  • the really cool stuff is that you do not really recognize it is an odd metre until you have a closer look and hear to it.

it sounds really natural. this is higly sophisticated composition =)

  • this vid reminds me Mike Portnoy explaining his odd time signature in the dance of eternity

  • one of the most beautiful peices of music ive heard in a loooooong time

  • Genius.

  • MOAAR

  • Sounding quite nice. I hope there'll be a video available of the concert for us who can't come :-)

  • "yeah, even I play in 4/4, its true" xD

  • when this is played live with an orchestra people's heads are going to explode.

  • Jordan you're great and i love seeing your videos. My question to you is do you know anyone who you think is better than you?

  • JR is the best!

  • uncovered 1? so that means there'll be more uncovering? :D

  • This is just going to be freaking awesome OO

Too bad I don't live in South America, else I would be buying a ticket right away.

Please, please record this somehow. A Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, anything. Heck, even 8-Track tapes if you have to :)

  • The 7/16 part sounds like a part from Count of Tuscany

  • omg, RUDESS, YOU ARE A MYTH!! LIVING LEGEND!!

  • damn i dunno how he can keep track of the different times so well....dream theater is amazing with that stuff

  • OMG! YOU PLAY 4/4!!!! :O xD

  • man thats sounding sick!!! =D

  • That's where you'll leave us?? So much tension built up! Argh! Can't wait!

  • Yes indeed an interesting use of odd meters. I like how it slows down and picks up tempo as the meters goes from 16th to 8th to 4ths etc... Interesting!

  • "Even I play in 4/4" Oh, you Jordan :')

  • That melody is pretty awesome!

  • JR...if my hands could play as your left one...

  • And we're blue-balled with the ending!

  • "Even I play in 4/4, it's true."

    LIES!!

  • @Madad134 i know right!!

my jaw dropped when he said he sometimes play in 4/4!!

    i was like :O

  • "yeah, even I play in 4/4. it's true"

  • What is the best Gentle Giant album?

  • @mrichman Free Hand is their most famous, although I also personally like Interview. Missing Piece is probably their most accesible album that still maintains a prog vibe.

  • Loving these previews/practices! Gives me a chance to learn parts early :)

  • Hahaha you're amazing

  • Beast mode as usual.

  • The Count of Explorations .. =D

  • Epic man

  • wow thats awesome...
