Imagine Selma (who had a lot to offer!) shaking her bush when she sings: "i don't think that beans are bad with me most anything goes" and Pops answers: "I look in the pot and what a sight!" as he peeps in her rue de l'amour ...
They were naughtier in those days than we like to believe!
this guy is my raw model, i had a dream to be like this guy, i've played classic music since 4th grade, in 10th grade i've fell in love with this music because of this guy, now i play trumpet in three different jazz ensembles and i love life. thank you satch
My 11th grade history teacher assigned us a project about influential figures in America. We had to choose from 100 people, most of them presidents and generals. I came across Armstrong, and the idea of a musician being as influential as a president had me picking him as my person. I've been listening to this music for a couple days now, and i just love it! -brought to you by a youngin from '94 who is tired of all these stupid mainstream hype.
I never would've discovered this song if Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers didn't mentioned listening to this song as a kid in his interview with River Phoenix.
" a very good looking woman with an otherwise good figure "all that meat", but who is proportionally small breasted, "and no potatoes". - From Wikianswers
@guitarhero380 LOL, i'm starting to really enjoy this music and it's all becuase of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Glad i am still able to listen to great music from the past.
I know I'm going to offend someone... but I wish Louis would stick to playing and less singing. He is a wizard musician, but singing... I just don't care for him. I LOVE the beginning instrumental part...Brilliant!
This song is so funny. XD Love it.

@TatTwamAsi You mean Velma Middleton

I am a big fan of Fats but I think this interpretation of Pops and Selma is even better.
It is a wonderful swinging metaphore on fat women without tits (all that meat and no potatoes).
Really good music and fine humour in the traditional manor.

what album(s) does this come from?
DeadbrainLives 1 year ago
It is definately not Ella Fitzgerald, more likely Velma Middleton, one of Louis's favourite duettists.

It's worth noting that the female vocalist on this song is Ella Fitzgerald :)

Me too! The Chili Peppers and Henry Rollins turned me on to this music. I'm into Cab Calloway now, as well.
