alligators have never had a fear of humans, when I was in Africa the only place to wash clothes was the river and it was so common that ppl would be attacked and killed there that it was just a natural way of life. They see us as a food source, not a threat
Sorry but I feel I must clarify something here. In Africa, those would have been crocodiles and yes, they are FAR more aggressive. Alligators are extremely placid by comparison and most do have a fear of humans unless they become habituated from people feeding them. Then they start to associate humans with food and it can become a dangerous situation. Occasionally a small child or dog will be attacked but attacks on adults are very rare. They generally don't see us as food.
I was an intern at the refuge this summer and I went on an overnight canoe trip to Floyd's Island with one of the other interns. The line "we're getting close, hopefully, to floyd's island..." certainly rang true for us too.
god i love the swamp. my 3rd fav thing after wrestling and cryptozoology. the place down here alligator bayou stopped renting out canoes now though and im gonna try to save up some money for a canoe or rowboat wrestling. i wanna go out into the atchafalaya bayou, they got some water so deep noone knows how deep, and parts noones ever been in.
Wow what a cool looking adventure maybe I can try some day but the alligators would freak me out
