  • this album got richey's lyrics

  • This is easily their best album since Everything Must Go though, and to those of you extreme nazi snobs who think they've sucked after the Holy Bible, they've always come out with tremendously good singles (A Design for Life, Kevin Karter, Everything Must Go, The Everlasting, Tsunami, You're Love Alone, There by the Grace of God, Empty Souls, So Why So Sad... etc)

  • This album is immense. It took the charts by storm, shook pop music to it's foundations and for a short time reminded us all of what guitar music should sound like and that it does have a place in the charts no matter what. Redemption in one album! The manics have gone from strength to strenght since and whilst not quite recapturing the old manics certainly making their new album releases an event and something to look forward to for all!

  • luv it. The stuff they have made has been a bit patchy since the holy bible which was amazing. I reckon if richey had not had been dissapeared this would have been the holy bibles follow up not middle stuff like kevin carter and a design for life

  • cause the manics are big rush fans they used the verse for spirit of radio in the song. Still epic song tho :)

  • @5T3V3N94 sorry, which song was it they used a verse from spirit of radio..? i'm a rush and msp fan; not surprised to hear msp are rush fans, but always nice to hear the influence rub off in places.

  • @fju2112 this song, i ment they used the verse guitar riff from spirit of radio for their verse, but with their lyrics

  • love it !!

  • wow this is epic..

  • The title... could it refer to the journals he kept in The Priory? I know Kurt Cobain left behind a couple of journals before he disappeared n killed himself.

  • "PG certificate, all cuts unfocused"

    Love that lyric.

  • Thank you for sharing this playlist! &hearts from an American Manics fan.

  • The Verses and solo are great, guitars give me goosebumps there, chorus is typical Manics grandeur which is not necessarily a bad thing!

    love this song

  • what a chorus! jesus, i get goosebumps every time i hear it!

  • This song sounds like spirit of radio by rush

  • yes it does

  • Nicky and James said they wanted this song to sound like 'Rush being played by Magazine'. Success!

  • Yeah wondered what the smell was, it was you lingering around.

  • im a massive rush fan and i love this, ive only

just now can you belive got into the manics

and i cannot wait to discover more, im on a glory trail.....as i know so little about them.....!!! DYLAN..

  • I recently wrote an interesting music video concept for this song...does any one know how I could contact the band or their management ?

  • first time ive heard this...the manics keep on making quality tunes....

  • anybody know why this album is not on itunes?

  • Album of the year

  • They've still got it.

  • When the riff around 0:30 comes in i just get the urge to sing "Begin the day with a friendly voice. A companion, unobtrusive".

  • Yeah, clearly heavily influenced by, or a tribute to, Rush, who I know are Manics favourite band

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah the guitar sounds like Spirit of the Radio and has that same heavy chorus pedal on it.

  • this album is like the holy bible: new testament. the holy bible was like a big question and a problem (not criticising the album by the way) and this for me is like the answer or the resolution. thats how i think of it

  • yep, people need to let go of the assumption that there is a comparison between this and the holy bible. I hate it when people complain it wont match the holy bible, i mean maybe it doesnt match it but the past is the past. Yeah it was great 15 years ago. BUT FUCK IM LOVING THE PRESENT

  • it was never supposed to match it anyway! dunno where loads of people got that from

  • Agreed mate.

  • @PeeledApples it's a good thing it wasn't Holy Bible 2...this album stands on its own, no matter when the lyrics were written or by who, as part of the recent trilogy of great albums by MSP.

  • @PeeledApples tHIS IS BETTER THAN THE hOLY bIBLE,

  • I've always thought that THB was about Richey analising the outside world and JFPL was about him analising himself.

  • it sounds like spirit of the radio and learn to fly

  • it sounds absolutely nothing like either of those. clean your ears out

  • Actually in various interviews both James and Nicky have said that musically it's an attempt to sound like Rush played by Magazine so tednedbed's got a point.

  • I've only gotten into the Manics within the last few months, but I have to say the music with Richey's lyrics seems to be the most thought provoking. He was a true poet.

  • careful, once you get into the manics there is no escaping. you end up downloading everything they have ever written or been involved in =P

  • lol, exsactly what happened to me

  • @PeeledApples so true, I am a new fan, not from the UK, and have been obsessed with them for a couple of months now. Not that my obsession is waning :) Wish I'd known them earlier. They've changed my life profoundly. MSP 4ever

  • listen 2 everything must go

  • i think people need to let go of the past and move on to the future. Yeah the holy bible was great just move on, this is the manics nowadays. No amount of complaining is gonna bring the holy bible era back. I Bloody love this song

  • I think you're right. Holy Bible will always be my favourite album of theirs, but there has been some great material since. Lifeblood was the last one I bought and was a big disappointment whilst Send away the tigers completely passed me by, but this album is a real return to form! There is life after " ...Bible " !

  • this does sounds similar to "Spirit of the Radio"

  • I read that Richey wrote this about his time at the Priory n its pseudo-God bullshit. The "Only a God can bruise..." is good sarcasm (in my opinion, don't give me flak...)

  • we miss you richey...

  • its a painting by jenny saville, they used her work on "holy bible" to

man i miss there old stuff,, this doesnt rock half as hard

  • in the school i work at people teach english lit with faces like this....

  • I live in Glasgow and kids walk into Supermarkets with faces like this every day

  • yeah i cant see any other reason why they would have to have the case covered up

  • its not even blood lol

  • Asda refuse to display the CD cover.....TRAGIC

  • yeah same with tescos

  • probably because of the blood on the front cover

  • As did Morrisons where I bought my copy from. Bit sad really

  • i have the download link for the CD :)

if you want it send me a message

or write a reply on my comment :D

  • i want it!!

  • hey - this is way better than it has been for a long, long, LONG time. it is rather generation terrorist, isn't it. less edgy - but still

  • No, I'd say it was more 'the Holy Bible'. I wish they'd return to the Generation Terrorists era though.

  • they tried to with send away the tigers

  • cheers on the post peeledapples!!! all number ones are transitory, ajcfc!!!!

  • I would love for this to be a No 1 album but it's unlikely to reach No 1 as Eminem is releasing his album on Monday as well. So that would probably be No 1 with the Manics probably ending up at No 2 again.

  • "You can have lovely shiny buttocks and guns everywhere in the supermarket on covers of magazines and CDs, but you show a piece of art and people just freak out," he said.

  • GREATTT!!!!!!

  • im glad richey left us these!!!!

kind of a going away present...

    hes a hero

  • i meant the lyrics to the album...

and yes it is very rush

  • yeah you're spot on it is very much like Rush

  • yea whats the song,. spirit of radio?

  • right, the spirit of radio riff is present here

    it's almost identical

  • Except that it's a completely different chord progression and the arpeggiated stuff is a slightly different pattern, but yeah, other than that.......

    Jeez......

  • sounds like rush

  • This song sounds a bit like learn to fly by the foo fighters with the main riff and the guitar sound

is sounding like it's going to be an awsome album though

  • It does actually!

I knew Id heard something like it before..

  • As the dog says...Ohhhh YES!!!

  • wow, they havent sounded this lively for ages

  • Sounds NatWest, Barclays, Midlands, Lloyds. Deffo Generation Terrorists!

  • Listened to Generation.. the other day, and thought how suddenly out of date that song is. I wonder how long before the other two change their names and make the song an obsolete piece of history.

  • what are you on about?

  • That should've been a reply to someone's comment referencing Natwest Barclays Midlands Lloyds, dunno how it ended up there.

  • ah i see.

  • death sanitised through credit!

  • natwest!

  • still a good song though. Good rock album.

  • You have changed your tune! you said this album was rubbish last time. Seeing sense now..

  • yeah they are amazing, im uploading a couple more videos which as far as im aware are not yet on youtube and these are from the new album. (mate of mine burned the disc for me, god knows where he got it from) but check my channel out for more songs from this album!

  • Yeaaaaah !! first comment !! amazing song, big sound, i love the manics that way !
