Increasing the fan speed will dramatically reduce the temperature but 2 months down the road, your fan will die, you'll have to replace the fan or yr GPU will die as well. Leave it at dynamic speed, your GPU will sense when the extra fan power is needed.
For almost all nVidia cards, 70+ degrees is NORMAL. If it hits 80+ it's hot but still ok. 90+ is when u start worrying abit. By right, according to nVidia, their cards are meant to take heat up to 120degrees (b
GPU temps during non-gaming use have increased on average over the last year or two. Why? Because more and more programs including Win 7 and all the latest browsers are being coded with gpu hardware acceleration. On average, my factory overclocked nvidia gt 240 runs at about 43 degrees celsius at idle and up to 59 degrees watching a 720p YouTube video using IE9 or Chrome. I use the nvidia "Fixed" fan setting at 60% on default for internet browsing and 100% during gaming or blue-ray playback.

use msi afterburner (works for non msi cards too), has a software auto fan speed tuner if your fan speed wont auto change like my card was doing. or can just manually set it to some value
@Vinylakos it called v tune now but same thing. there is no official link (dont worry it is commisioned by nvidia) you have to type it in google. sorry
i have a 8800gt graphics card and it seems to be really warm even though i turned up the fan speed on msi afterburner - is there anyway i can get my gpu cooler
@KpLDangermouse hmmm well mine peaked at 72 which scared me lol but this is all i could think of. i could suggest looking at website forums by searching Google. sorry i cant be of any help m8 thanks for commenting
Pls don't listen to this joker.
