One of my cats do this. I never heard a cat do this before her, my old past cat never made that noise before atleast not in front of me. I thought it was the strangest sound from a cat, and thought she was mimicing a squirel she saw (this is when i first heard the noise from her)

my cat does this too. I usually just twirl some thick string or a necklace over my head until you can hear it woosh. Then cat stares overhead and makes that chatter sound.

My cats do this but ONLY when they see birds. They do not make such sounds when they see Rodents. I would like to research this more as animal communication is fascinating.

Funny, I think of that as being the bug-hunting noise. I have seen several cats make this noise, but only when hunting bugs. I would say that maybe the bugs substituted for their access to larger prey, but one of the cats with this behavior was also a might hunter. He brought his human a *pigeon* on more than one occasion. o_0

Cats do this just like they do when they hunt. It's their way to kill prey. Some people find it really creepy though, lol.

hahaha my female cat does this same thing when it sees a bird, but only to birds. I guess cuz all my other cats have caught a bird, and they rarely do this, so she is probably pissed that she hasnt got one.

It is so funny how focused cats are when they do this. It's like the only thing they even notice sometimes is the lazer pointer, bird, squirrel, or whatever they're chattering at. It is so cute!
