  • where do you get the tamarind paste?

i looked in my local asian market and another asian store but i can't find it, i only find tamarind soup base mix, concentrate, or the actaul wet tamarind :(

  • @sexxyinuyasha I found it in a Chinese grocery. What I get comes in a thick, almost square bar and is not refrigerated when you buy it. It takes a bit of work to get the juice out but I think you can also buy it in a jar. I haven't seen that.

  • It is wonderful to see Americans cooking different types of cuisines and you did a great job! May I suggest that if your wok is seasoned (i'm not sure if yours just didn't bronze), it can really enhance the flavor of anything you stir fry. I love how you even included a traditional Thai melody to your video, keep up the great work!

  • @MNTsunami Thank you, MNTsunami. That's very nice of you to say. I think you are right about the wok. I need to study up on seasoning it properly.

  • I'd rather just get a big bowl of pad thai at the local mall for $7 instead of spending like $30 on groceries to make this once every month.

  • @tarantula152 LOL! (Me too, actually)

  • @Perroquet51 But thanks for putting up the recipe for times when I don't want to go to the mall and have all that shit in my fridge/cabinets lol

  • @tarantula152 The thing is padthai is real easy to make, and most of the ingredients don't go bad. So I'd prefer spending money for the initial ingredients and making it myself.

  • Looks delicious & nice presentation at the end.

  • Yum!

  • Interesting, but not my kind of dish ... Ive never had it, but cant stomach the thought of fish juice LOL

  • Wonderful looking dish. thanks so much for sharing. keep em coming, jo

  • Now I'm very hungry... I love Thai food! I'm due...

  • Perfect! One of my favourites dishes. cheers! KtC

  • Thank you KtC :-)

  • what's for desert?

  • Spiced mango :-)

  • okay, Mr. Perroquet5, I've had just about ENOUGH of this. That's it! Do you hear me, that's it!

    I'll be right over

  • Never had this dish but if you invite me over for dinner i'd love to try it!

    :-)

  • I am definitely trying this recipe. I ALWAYS order Chicken Pad Thai when out - just love it!

  • Your quite the chief Marc. I would say it's looks good but I can't stand fish sauce or shell fish.

  • Will you be cooking Thanksgiving dinner, Marc?

I wondered if you do anything special to the bird before putting it in the oven. Add spices? Love to know some tricks for this.

    Your Thai dish looks delicious!

Not many attempt these kind of foods at home, so easy to get take out. But I often thought about purchasing a Wok for stir fry.

  • Hi Lisa. No, I'm going to a friend's for TG but at Christmas I'll probably make a tofu or seitan roast.

  • Wow, not only does it look and sound yummy, but your dishes were so beautiful. I also loved the sound of the wok singing as your moved things around in it. Yummy.

  • #drool#

I love Thai food- there is a Thai place near where I go to college and when the aromas of chilis and lime and ginger and garlic waft over to my classroom I literally start salivating! Maybe I should get checked for rabies. LOL

    that looked terrific.

  • i should have had Pad Thai on the street when i was in Pattaya Beach but the booze and women got in the way. Ah who knows, i probably did have it, i just don't remember.

I do recall an elephant was walking down street, we hired a boat to check out the outlying islands and some guy was walking around putting monkeys on people's backs and taking pictures so he could sell them to those very same people.

oh right and the awesome nightclubs and Thai boxing right there in the bar.

  • Booze will drive you to women and women will drive you to drink. it's a vicious circle.

  • no, i'm pretty sure, booze brought us together

  • Yum! Yum! That looks good.

  • looks yummy..

I love the dish you have it on !

    **Kisses**

  • your right i just finished eating.

your meal looks better then mine.

    peace. gregg

  • gettin fancy ova here! i LOVE pad thai! the hotter the better

  • Same here. The hotter the better.

  • I love Pad Thai and yours looks very yummy Marc. : )

  • Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!

  • Aroi mahk!

We regularly eat Pad Thai with tofu out here in Northern Thailand (Issan area if you know it) especially if we have vegetarians over to visit - hard to find non meat/fish dishes.

Have you tried papaya salad? If you like pet mahk you'd love how they do it in Issan.

We're hoping to get some local women do a spot of Thai cooking here on YouTube using the local abundant ingredients - mind if I give you a shout when it happens and let them know your opinion on their dishes?

  • mundoexchange, be sure to let me know.

As for the papaya salad, I saw a recipe and came close to making it but time didn't allow. Thanks for watching :-)

  • what time shall I arrive with my Shiraz?

  • Oh this is wonderful Marc! My son's favorite. I've been a little intimidated to try it. You make it look so easy, will have to give a whirl.

  • I had to come back to get myself in gear to cook! Thanks for the motivation...LOL xoxoxoxo

  • what gear do you wear to cook? xx

  • I find scuba gear works well! xx

  • Mmm-mmm scrum-diddly-umptious! Pad Thai's a big favourite — as is anything that can be prepared in one pan. ;8)

  • One pan is great! Of course, I had to use all those little bowls for demonstration purposes lol

  • Mouth watering...yum....more please.

I like your camera angles....I must get better at that.

  • Okay, I watched all the way thru and am still waiting, when do ya add the marinara sauce????? ((*_*))

Lovely recipe and fabo presentation Marc!!

    Hugs

    Marylou

    xoxoxo

  • First, I applaud you for making it all the way through. Secondly, add the marinara sauce only when you're entertaining company that you wish would leave.

  • That looks delicious! And it was fun watching you eat! :O)

  • Sandguy99, thanks for watching. I really should do another version of the recipe but I'm so bad at cooking videos that I almost dread starting one.

  • Nice job Marc!!

  • Thank you, Sandi :-)

  • I want your Wok!!! That is a beautiful pan...

What a wonderful recipe. Where did you learn to cook. Wanna move in?

  • Gina, I'm a graduate of the Biafra Culinary Institute.

How about YOU move in with me?

  • That is the shiniest wok I have ever seen. Looks yummy Marc, thanks for sharing. Oh dont forget to post the sauce recipe, its all about the sauce:-)

  • arrgh! I was kind of hoping no one would ask for it, lol. The sauce is easy enough to make if you can find a block of tamarind paste.

  • That shouldnt be an issue, we have excellent Asian markets here:-)

    Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Wow, I think I just picked up a sub to your channel randomly, but I'm so glad I did! This is great, and I'm looking forward to more!

That egg looks huge, by the way.

  • Das, how cool is that?! Glad you accidentally got subbed to me :-)

  • Mmmmm.... I wish I had smella tube.

I love presentation it adds to the food experience. Wonderful Marc! Thx for the recipe.

    HugZ sugar!

  • ROFL @ "smella tube"!

  • hey you borrowed our dishes and haven't given them back yet!

And I agree with anmoose - what's with the shiny wok?

OK now I have crticized you enough - it's time for a compliment...

    um...

  • Come on Brian, you can do it. Think hard.

  • Great chopstick control you have there

  • I knew you could come up with something. I'm just doing this to while away the lonely hours until I die.

  • you will have to eat more polyunglutomised e numbers for that to happen

  • That looked amazing when you were finished.

Those shrimps looked sooo good. Nom!

Great video. Now I'm hungry lol

  • It's not a pretty dish in the making, is it?

  • I've only had pad thai in restaurants. Doesn't really look hard to make, now that I see it done.

  • Bravo! Well done!

To this day, I won't attempt that dish. I find it too intimidating. Now, after watching u muscle that tamarind around and whipping those ingredients into place, I may have a go at it.

Nice work, Marc. And all I thought u could cook were dandelion leaves and the what not.

OK, now that I've blown smoke up ur ass, do me a favor? Don't be cooking too many of these dishes, huh. You'll put me out of business!

  • I won't put you or anyone out of business, PC. I'm not good at making cooking videos. As long as this one was, I still had to cut an enormous amount out. In the tags I had to put "how 'to' make..." because YT wouldn't accept an "I" tag word. Weird, huh?

  • J/K brother. You did a bang up job on that soup. I'm quite sure u had to cut a lot out. That has got to be one of the most intense 'bowls' that ever came out of Saigon or Vietnam or wherever it comes from.

No 'I's', huh? Never tried that but i will!

  • Wok tha fuck this looks marvalous!I could live on this.love the dishes.

  • Beautiful!

  • Thanks Michael. I know you'd have blown us away with your version.

  • Thanks Michael. I know you'd have blown us away with your version.

  • Pad Thai...the quickest way to a man heart. And it leave a trail so you remember how you got there!! ;-)

    Looks wonderful Marc!

  • Superbly done, Master Marc. Of course, you could've left out the part where we're forced to watch you eat it in the middle of the night when we have THE BLIND MUNCHIES!!

Your wok is far too new. It's too shiny and needs work. Mine was a gift from my mother in the late 60s, the result of a request that I *must* have a *real* wok. She found one. The box it came in did not have one word of English on it.

It's dark, and old, and not pretty, and I would KILL anyone who tried to take it. :-)

  • You're right, Moosie, it's a fairly new wok. I bought 3 at the same time and this is the only one that I dared to use. I was an idiot and got rid of my well-used wok :-(

  • By the way, I know I could have left all the eating out, but I wanted to end the music at a certain point so was forced to keep eating lol

  • Forgot to say I love your plate too!!

  • Thanks Judy. I have an obsession for dishes.

  • Thanks Judy. I have an obsession for dishes.

  • You make the best meals!! I'm coming for dinner! :D

  • Looks yummy! I've never even heard of coconut palm sugar before. I occasionally use coconut oil in my cooking. Years ago most things coconut were thought of as unhealthy because of their high levels of saturated fats but that's recently been debunked and it's now thought of as being healthier than the alternatives.

"Once you get started it goes very fast"

    That's what she said!!

(I had to beat OhCurt to that one, LOL)

  • Oh MARC! I am drooling, seriously!!! I am trying this one very soon! I just love Pad Thai and this recipe looks so scrumptious. I do hope I can fine the Coconut Sugar here. I want mine exactly the way you made it. Taste-buds are dancing! Yummy! Thank you for sharing this favorite!!

  • There are so many great versions, Michael. This is really very basic. Plain white sugar is fine (some people even use brown sugar) and you can buy the sauce so you don't need to use all of those ingredients.

  • Note to self: Don't watch late at night and hungry. Looks yummy.

  • i DO LOVE YOUR COOKING VIDS.. I do know this kind of recipe I have to say this is so good.. .. I sub a few things.. still great!! yummy!! 100000 stars!!!!..

  • when i get better i will see if i can make that it look so good thank you Perr: )

  • That looks delicious!! I can't wait until you get here to make it for me! ha! In case that is a LONG wait, I'll have to fav it so I can get back to it and make it myself...:-)

BTW...you are a big tease making us all have to watch you eat that! xoxoxoxoxo
