is this the best this $40,000 piece of gear can do? wow, what a waste of money.. this is certainly one overpriced piece of gear.. i can do a lot more interesting things in Reaktor for a fraction of 40 grand..
5 stars for the system, 1 star for that "technical noise transformations". using such powerful system for that kind of crap is like driving Maybach to the nearest milk shop behind the corner.
i read the place where the original video came from and it was talking about his custom modular, then it just skipped to "here is a video of him playing the Buchla 200e"
Im a beginner synth... person, so bear with me whilst i learn differences.
sorry didnt mean to be rude. But really, very different looking and sounding synths, buchla is probably the most distinct looking modular system out there, unmistakable.
I love modulars and I'd love to own a modular... but why don't I see people doing totally generative beats/melodies with their systems? They're really capable of knocking them out!
man, congratulations to this piece .. in my eyes it's the best modular synth on earth .. wouldn't you like to give it to me as a present? - that'd be greatly appreciated ..
It sounds a little like U2 at 1:05 and 1:30

It starts to become the Who half way through, and then turns into 303 techno. ;-) See Buchla demos on my page, really soon

Nice patch! The biggest problem I have (but also the most beautiful thing about modular & analog synth gear) is remembering what the hell I did.

Make a video of it, then you can see. ;-)

I'm issueing the Great Buchla Challenge:
Can anybody do the Pink Floyd "On The Run" on a Buchla synth? (This is a song that can be played on most modular and some portable synths.)
I'd love to hear somebody use one of these outrageously expensive machines to make something more than "farting" noises!
I have no doubt it can be done, that's why I've just thrown down the gauntlet and issued this challenge!
May the best Buchla programmer win! :)

This isnt a Buchla system is it? Its a custom made EAR with Plan B and LiveWire modules...
And Alessandro Cortini designed it and is manipulating it here (Keybaordist for NIN recently for those who dont know)
DSCook 3 years ago
if you even know what plan b is then you would know that this is not one and is very much a buchla trademark style.

ah, yee with little faith. a true synth enthusiast only needs to hear a small sample of a synth to be able to visualize its full potential.
muksys 3 years ago
1.) It's modular. The architecture wasn't set in stone by some old geezer in a lab. The possibilities are infinite.
2.) Buchla is extremely well built and laid out. They can survive a nuclear fallout, and the sound can inspire said fallout.
