Why is getting people to vote good? A general survey of 5 million random people questioned about any random thing will give you the same results as 8 million people! It doesn't matter.

All this does is get people out to the polls who normally wouldn't and therefore generally know less about the issues than people who willingly want to vote!

(and if you disagree with me I suggest taking a simple course in statistics... I really don't get america's voter-worship syndrome.)
