  • Haha, got this song on a CD. When I first heard it, I laughed so much xD

    Just amazing :D

  • Nice mixture of German and English. Wundershoen Lied!

  • Gret character and good music, anton irish centre sunday nights ceili in camden town, open to all, tony Kearney plays the besst in Ceili.

  • Quite the laugh at 2:55.

  • i'm officially claiming this as my theme song, sean cannon singing and all :D

  • This is so awesome!

  • Hillarious!!!!!! xD

  • It's ok. It being live lessens it quality but it's better than half the ones out there

  • is this written by pat cooksey?

  • @haui61 yes it is

  • @haui61 No it is not. It is originally a stand up comedy bit by George Huffnung who did it back in 1958.

  • I've heard it 2010 in Bamberg, just great!

  • i almost fel of my chair. sean is great

  • Somehow, I dont get why people laught... ô_ô

  • Who stole (or licensed?) it from whom? The Dubliners or Harry Prünstner ("Ziaglaufzug")?

  • I first heard this in physics class^^

  • While working on the fourteenth floor, some bricks I had to clear

Now to throw them down from such a height it was not a good idea

The foreman wasn't very pleased, he being an awkward sod

He said I'd have to take them down the ladders in my hod.

Now clearing all these bricks by hand, it was so very slow

So I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below

But in my haste to do the job, I was too blind to see

That a barrel full of building bricks was heavier than me.

  • These are the words of the "Sick Note"

The only word that is different is the use of "me" instead

of "my". So for example, the first line is sung as

"Dear Sir I write this note to you to tell you of me plight"

Dear Sir I write this note to you to tell you of my plight

And at the time of writing I am not a pretty sight

My body is all black and blue, my face a deathly grey

And I write this note to say why Paddy's not at work today.

(more verses to follow in next post)

  • the song sounds like "the auld/old alarm clock", or am i wrong?

    /watch?v=2ATOXOjruRc

  • @Drehfabrik Damn right it does.

  • @xXInnozenzXx i was there too, just great! :D

  • cool

  • Brill song

  • I think this is a great example of music w comedy, you only need couple of irishes :)

  • As I'm listening, I can't figure out if he's speaking English or German. LOL

Silveryne, I agree with you. It's brilliant. Up until now, I'd only heard this song by the Clancy's. Sean Cannon is really good!

  • some song

  • I love the mental picture this little song generates in the mind, The best people to make fun of the Irish is definitely the Irish themselves.

  • I don't really hear any Dutch. Only German and English.

  • genial! sein deutsch ist nicht schlecht...

  • can i get this as a ring tone?

  • I adore this song!!!!

  • Hilarious Brilliant POET

  • He did the same in Groningen, last Saturday. Half Dutch, half English.

    Briljant!!

  • same song? he didn't sing it for years (here in Germany)

  • No, it was the way he introduced some songs. Normally artists would use only one or two Dutch words, but Sean used more full-sentences.

  • ½German ½Irish :D love it

  • good stuff, power to your elbow.

  • Dear Boss I write this note to you to tell you of my plight

And at the time of writing I am not a pretty sight

Me body is all black and blue and me face a deadly gray

And I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today

I was workin' on the 14th floor; some bricks I had to clear

And throwin' 'em down from such a height was not a good idea

The foreman wasn't very pleased, he bein' an awful sod

  • great how he talks german! xD ... i'm looking forward to seeing them in germany

  • i laughed so hard when i heard this at a pub in kilkenny
