  • As a writer I have the gift to write because of the label I claim which is just that a label...I write so what??How much do I need to write to be considered a writer? Okay on the same note how much do I need to do to be considered normal? You can do all the right things in this life and totally miss the mark...Had I not had the awakening I would of never came to the realization that I am spiritually gifted. Conformity is to accept the label. Non- conformity is to accept the gift.

  • Thanks -- I'm going to look up James Turrell on the Web.

  • Why are so many people diagnosed with borderline personalities, and schizophrenic, bipolar disorder(s)?? What is causing this. What's going on?

  • there are WAY too many causes so pointing to one or the other as the main cause would be next to impossible

Genes, Drugs, lifestyle, society, Biological causes, trauma, alcohol, stress..............................you name it!

  • I agree that borderline personalities, are caused by a host of social/emotional difficulties However, I sense that society is taking a dangerous path by going against nature, and forcing people into an artificial way of life i.e(generational wars & the effects there of ) I would say is the main culprit of these disorders.

  • There might be stable people out there but you'd have to know them personally for a few years before you could make that distinction. Don't ever put yourself down or put so called stable people on a pedestal, they are no better or stronger than you are.

  • Those are two very wise observations. Thank you for sharing them. I am not sure anyone is completely stable all of the time, but we can all become more stable more often with effort and awareness.

  • what about with medication?

  • @Winter077 Agreed 100 %... You can tell the difference between those who just tread water and those who have sunk underneath, but have risen only to become stronger.

  • Everyone is mentaly unstable. Even that woman in the next office who looks and talks perfect has serious issues..it just might not happen to be Bipolar Disorder. I say, the cleaner the image, the more they have to hide.

  • This wonderful, however the sound only coming out of the right makes me RAAGGEEE... just kidding :P

  • Bummer about the sound. The original that we uploaded is in stereo.

  • Agree about that!!! 0:00-0:43

  • i think i made a mistake telling my girlfriend of my situations i thnk i have freaked her out a bit but all i did was tell the truth. did i mke a mistake?

  • Only time will tell if you made a mistake. The best way to tell someone about our condition is when they ask us how we were able to change ourselves so much or why we are able to handle things better than everyone else. When we tell them it is because of our condition they will be interested instead of afraid.

When we do the opposite - act badly and then say it was because of bipolar or whatever condition, we are perpetuating the fear that the condition is dangerous and can't be controlled.

  • hell no you didnt make a mistake, if she doesnt accept you for who you are then shes not the one for you. I have bipolar disorder and my fiance knows. My fiance knows everything about me. He knows how mad I get, he knows how confused I get and he still loves me. Keep truckin man. People that dont understand you are always going to judge. IT just gives you a larger reason to accomplish more

  • Yeah I mean obviously it will be a shock at first but soon people start to get used to it and maybe try and understand it.

  • No you didn't make a mistake, in time you'll figure out she's just bas nuts, she's a woman afterall.

  • completely understand every word u r saying its seems 2 b a secret language one can only understand if u relate to. i completely believe those that have been in such conditions have a bigger advantage than those of the ordinary we have that spark because even though unfortunate, we see the dark side of life therefore nuthn scares us or would surprise us if sumthn bad was 2 happen. we seem 2 b tha ones less pressurized.

  • yeah when in a depressive state our minds do whatever they want and there is little we can do but simply to say it isnt real or thing will get better.

  • "Everyone gets depressed at some time." To me, this phrase, is like comparing a broken ankle to the amputation of a limb. In both cases, we lose the ability to walk. With therapy and hard work the ankle will heal. The limb will never grow back (at least based on current science). We may learn to walk with a prosthesis and even (with the right prosthesis) exceed anyone's dreams of our performance. Yet, in the end a broken ankle and lost limb are NOT equivalent experiences.

  • A good lecturer can't jump straight a point like because not everyone will be able to keep up. If you payed attention you would've noticed he mentioned it's a different 'range'.

If you don't understand stand that, a range can be used as a scale to measure the extremity. The point you're trying to make = already made

  • Unfortunately, this clip is only 7 minutes out of a one hour talk. This clip is about paying attention to our experiences and gaining insight from them, not an argument about specific insights.

There is an argument often made comparing mental conditions to physical ones that this talk is not addressing. The equanimity video might help in understanding that argument. Amputation and bipolar are not equivalent - amputation is a permanent loss, bipolar will be an advantage when you understand it.

  • You are correct in your statements. I have much to learn. I am open to change. My reaction was more to the prejudice I have felt experienced from those who feel that I somehow "chose" to have bipolar or that it is simply a matter of my using my willpower to overcome it. This much I know to be true based in the works of Ramachandran, North, Amen, et. al. The amount of "free will" we have likely is much less than philosophers and religion lead us to believe. Peace.
