Ian Astbury told the audience in Sioux Falls and Rapid City South Dakota he was Native American. He did this when touring with Metallica in 88-89. I know. I was in high school following Metallica from St Paul MN to South Dakota for three shows. I always thought he was native american. He said a lot of things in between songs to the native crowds in South Dakota. Something unreal I think people should know. Even my two friends traveling with talk about it to this day.

I was heavily into S_D_C and then The Cult and remember thinking Dreamtime was so unique and then MTV showed the video that changed my world with this band - She Sells Sanctuary. I knew they were going to go far. I just love the hope and innocence of these 2 talented men and wow what they accomplished....great this you tube...Revolution and the video became another favorite.

It's weird how Brits are so unprepared for the extravagance of the American mainstream "media experience, yet their fundamentals are so much better realized in the creative form they persue that got them here in the first place. I remember the Cult playing LA clubs and peeling paint off the walls, unbelievably good band, and people who were "scenesters" missing the boat completely. This band blows doors, plain and simple. Ian was so soft-spoken and even tempered back then, and still had that innocence about him that was soon to disappear. For a while he became edgy and defensive, and seemed pretty disenchanted with the whole music scene. These musicians give so much heart and soul to what they do, and it seems like a little piece of them dies with the arrival of fame and fortune. I love The Cult. Always have. Amazing that such a powerful singing voice came from one so soft spoken.

Billy always seems to be agitated just look at him figdeting. Even in some photo's he has an intense frown or look and it's not for the camera. I saw him live at a small gig during the Cult album tour and he was piiissed off. During the concert you could see Ian was trying not to let Billy's attitude affect him. I think Billy is jealous of Ian's attention. But I so love Billy's guitar playing. He plays with such a groove. Dig the the "Witch" with that wah wah turnaround or "Ceremony" intro.
