  • What a pointless unfunny rant.

  • If there are ANY women here who "yearn" for the era when men wore hats and dressed in suits, then shut the fuck up, quit your job, slap on a corset, cook me some dinner, hand in your right to vote and lay on your back and give me some babies..... then raise them.

Doesnt seem so bad that we wear sandals now does it?

  • @133maxiboy Because looks are the same thing as a lifestyle, right?

  • @133maxiboy Actually the person who first mentioned "the 60's attire" and men dressing in suits was called "aaronsomething" and probably a guy. In fact it's never even mentioned if the person yearning for the era when men wore hats was a lady or a gentleman, so the "WAH FUCKING WOMEN FUCK YOUR IDEAS HAHAH HOUSEWIFE HOW DOES THAT FEEL" -burst was a bit uncalled for.

  • @whitebeam

Aaaahhhhh I never said "fuck your ideas"... infact I was pretty much having a go at the whole 50's-60's way of life and pointing out that pretty much the ONLY good thing about it for women was the way men dressed. All I was trying to point out is that a LOT of women do look back on those decades as the decades of "Gentlemen" and its really not true. Also you sound butthurt about something.

  • @133maxiboy Oh I'm not butthurt, and you sure read a lot into the notion that basically said "I wish men dressed like that still", not "I wish everything was like it was in the 50's-60's". And don't know about women, since I still don't know if any women even commented on the matter.

Same to you though, saying "it's not so bad we wear sandals now, is it", when I haven't even seen anyone except David complain about the straying from the tie & suit, it's just been stated it looks better.

  • I'm afraid i'm one of the entirely black suit people, in my defense though, i wear that very same suit for anything vaguely black tie.

  • Hear hear!!

  • I happily continue to wear the classic suit. But then the alternative has one massive shortcoming that keeps too many men from straying outside the norm: being overly fashionable, especially in a very dressy setting, makes you look incredibly gay. It doesn't matter how good you look, the "I like colour a little bit too much" sense of style will always land you on people's gaydar.

  • Fancy hats and suits are good and all, but the accent definitely helps.

  • It's a shame that people who wear the fedora or trilby nowadays are those acoustic guitar playing arseholes like Bruno Mars who are just trying to "express themselves". Those 10-for-a-penny soft-voiced guys who all play the same instrument, all dress "individually" and all have similar sounding songs (Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran).

Although even then the fedora's just look out of place now, the fedora was never meant to be multi-coloured and worn with a short-sleeved shirt.

  • I yearn for an era where nobody gives a solitary fuck about how other people dress.

  • @fragman08 There is a lot to be learnt from Islamic fundamentalism.

  • FINNEMORE!

  • He's wrong! Pretty people aren't stupid! Just look at that sexy beast Einstein.

  • 40 men wear sparkly open necked shirts to parties...

  • "the ugly man will always outnumber the attractive man"

    I resemble that remark.

  • You David Mitchell are NOT an ugly man

  • @TerraZet hardly washed out. i mean, washed up may have been appropriate if you meant his career was in shambles but even then you'd be wrong. he's hilarious, a proper funny guy

  • @TerraZet Dumbfuck.

  • @TerraZet Washed out..? I actualy laughed at that. Fail.

  • The whole point of this video was to say that most handsome men are stupid.

And this is why I watch Soapbox.

  • this is properly gonna start an argument but hey such is life.

David mitchell is an funny guy

  • Beau Brummel would be proud.

  • Austin Powers, is that you?

  • Mr. Mitchell... Look at how worked up you are. You are on your soapbox about losing the ability to not worry about what you wear. Meanwhile you're worrying about what you wear; quite frantically I might add. We in the business call this a paradox and we call you stupid.

  • @blindreefer First, what business?

Second, did you just call this incomprehensibly articulate man stupid?

Third, be honest, you didn´t get one bit of it, did you?

  • @Kabitu1 No need to get nasty. It wasn't you I was criticizing. First: the "business" part was just a little bit of rhetoric- completely unnecessary but I added it because I felt it helped my flow. Second: Yes. Third: Whats not to get? He's upset that some men are stepping it up fashion wise and making all other men who stick to the simple yet classic suit and tie ensemble look bad in comparison. All I'm saying is that by ranting about it he's quite literally contradicting himself.

  • @blindreefer hey it's just a comedic ranting which he did all the time, no need to be that judgmental to a comedian.

  • @blindreefer You'd take forever to say nothing.

  • @Zttbm Maybe thats better than ranting for the sake of it. Besides what's wrong with saying nothing? I'd rather listen to silence than everybody speaking at once.

That being said, why is everybody kissing DM's ass? Its not the hardest thing in the world to rant about shit. Especially when it is a scripted rant that other people helped you write. Do yourself a favor and hop off his cock. That being said, I am not trying to fight with you. So please don't write back angrily.

  • @blindreefer I never stood up for DM in any way, I simply made a point that you go on and on but never actually say anything.

  • @Zttbm Well if you choose to see nothing then that's your prerogative

  • I laughed at this!! because it's funny!!

AND YOU'RE WELCOME. I PRESSED 'LIKE' AND YOU THANKED ME. YOU ARE WELCOME. I ALSO APPRECIATE THE SUGGESTIONS YOU MADE ABOUT FUTURE VIDEOS I WOULD VIEW ON YOUTUBE. THANK YOU

  • Too much work. I hate dressing up, and suits are too damned hot in any place I've ever been required to wear one. Shirt and jeans for me. Some good ol' chucks, freshly shaved head, and I'm good to go.

  • I'm going to have to get a I'M GLAD HE'S DEAD t-shirt. XD

  • Bowties are cool...especially on DM

  • this guy is hilarious but his voice is annoying?

  • I wear black ties... I loathe how I look with a bow tie...

  • How sweat is David Mitchell in this video?

  • I have major man love for David Mitchell during one of his rants.

  • you mad david mitchell? yeah you mad

  • I'm a girl, and I don't even bother with makeup, except stage paint at Halloween.

I just wear jeans and a band t-shirt or something colourful, and I'm good.

And often I feel pressured to wear makeup, because all the other girls are!

    Lucky men!!!

  • @Stardustian1973

There are no girls on the internet!

  • It's so weird, my name is David Mitchell too. My account is just a stage name. :p Such a common name.

  • He looks genuinely horrified at the thought of putting effort into looking smart.

    He's sweating buckets

  • Give examples... I am yet to see anyone wearing anything different unless it's a different tie.

  • Caman, you don't have to agree to find this funny and spot on.

  • You're not ugly, David!

  • but i like wearing a pashmina around my waist as a skirt with long stripey socks a rainbow shirt and a terrorist scarf and eyeliner :(

not because i'm "cool" but to make up for my lack of a personality which my long hair helps me with

i think it's the "ugly" men that are actually cool, they don't need a to wear anything individual to express themselves because they have a personality and intelligence.

  • Sometimes just giving out does not constitute humour,,,,,

    Stop moaning David

  • I would give him one in the ars and lick it out

  • For a woman it's almost impossible to include themselves in the ugly category without some hidden agenda - even if it's true! When they do so they hope to get attention and that people disagree and tell them they're actually quite pretty or slim or whatever. When David refers to himself as unattractive or just average, he accepts and isn't bothered by it.

  • I feel guilty for wearing a red velvet jacket and white linen suit now...

  • I bet he would have a heart attack if he sees the film 'Liquid Sky'!

  • ooh but david, you are attractive.

  • Tough. White suits are boss.

  • so so true

  • Yeah, ***spoiler alert*** for a few comments down. Brilliant ending!

  • David you ARE hot!!!

  • I was really excited when I saw that this video was linked to on the black tie guide website!

  • This is why I yearn for the pre-60's era, when the only individuality expressed in a man's attire was the colour of his suit.

I love the suit, I love the trilby; it's uniform, smart and yet expressive in subtle ways like cuffs and patterns on your tie. No one got judged and everyone felt as if they looked there best.

  • @aaron9099 "THEIR best"!

  • @uncleboggo Oh shit, I usually make sure I get that right, guess I got caught up in the rant lol

  • @aaron9099 Haha,no worries.I just love pointing that mistake out to people. Mainly because I make it myself! Hehe.

  • @aaron9099 I love my orange tie-dyed t-shirt.

  • @aaron9099

I yearn for an era when gentlemen wore hats.

  • @boydegg I have 3 hats... one of them I wear almost daily. Some other men in my village also where hats. Most probably don't though, so given your post I thought I'd read it at the next gathering in our local community centre.

  • @boydegg hat wearing is the key to lasting happiness

  • @boydegg Maybe in a couple decades we'll be able to wear hats without looking like douches.

  • @aaron9099

Why don't you just wear that now?

I like that men wear more than just suits, now..

  • @aaron9099 zzzzzzzz

  • @aaron9099 also when black people didn't have rights!

  • Comment removed

  • @aaron9099 You're an idiot.

  • @aaron9099 It's foppish and useless.

  • @aaron9099 lol "no one got judged"...

...unless they were of a different race, other than white..

  • @aaron9099

    Totally agree :)

  • @aaron9099 i dream of times like this, i wish it was like this today

  • @aaron9099 lol no one got judged. except black people

  • I think he normally looks much better than he does in that picture.

  • HEAR, HEAR!!!

Let's be honest, most blokes would never even wear clothes if we could get away with it.

Stop celebrities making the rest of us look bad and making us spend money when all clothes are there for is to keep us warm.

    Let's start being men again!!!

Anyway, I have to go put on my manscara and style my has so I can get to my manscaping appointment.

  • David Mitchell, standing up for the man!

  • I'm quite ugly myself, but dammit I look good in a black tie! Thanks David!

  • Before I leave the house ever sort:

My hair (up or down, straight or curly, hair acessories or not),

My clothes (long sleeve or short sleeve top, skirt, shorts or jeans, with the first two leggings, tights or none, or maybe a dress?)

My makeup (define eyes or lips, what colour, how much?)

My shoes (boots, converse, flipflops, sandals, wedges, heels or flats?)

My acessories (bags, jewellry, hats, scarves?)

And does it all go together. This is every day. Think yourself lucky, David.

  • @KatieFromEngland you don't have to do all that you know you could just leave the house without make-up and just put on the first thing to fall out of the closet..

  • The ugly man will always outnumber the handsome man!

  • @r4fken always nice to give away the punchline as the top comment :(

  • I have sisters. They tell me what to wear, thus getting me around this problem. Otherwise, I would be as helpless as David Mitchell.

Also, Eddie Izzard must give him a heart attack.

  • He got so angry about this one that he started sweating like a trooper?

  • David... speak with a tailor; you do not look unusually smart. You look like a neckbeard cosplaying as James Bond.

  • @IoEstasCedonta I bet your one of those attractive men with your smugness towards appearance and typically stereotypical spanish name. Well stop it or were all doomed!

  • @IoEstasCedonta fuck you! he looks very handsome, plus he's intelligent, which i find incredibly sexy, and you, judging by your comment are a shallow simpleton wanker. A smartly dressed air headed moron that doesn't even beg to compare with someone like David.

  • this ripped me apart, too funny

  • well sorry mark...

  • genious

  • It's times like this I wish I was male.

  • ALL HAIL THE BLACK TIE!

  • I agree with David when he mentioned how easy we have it as men in comparison to women but i personally love to buy cloths that I feel suit my personality which shifts and changes along with what i wear. currently stuffy really works for me as its easy and i seem to be able to get away with it.

  • @DnyFranco you bastard

  • @DnyFranco How can clothes be linked to personality? They only mean something culturally.

  • @RandomStrixAluco

Well it depends on how you think about it. Like How I hate it when my cousin wants to pick out clothes for me cause then I'll end up looking stereotypically "ghetto". Which usually other people to assume I'm sociable, into R&B and Hip hop and such, and speak "black", if you will, when really I'm the complete opposite.

    It's a matter of perspective. ~3~

  • David Mitchell is my inner monologue.

  • the ugly man will always outnumber the attractive man!

  • 24 people dont look unusually smart

  • you know when he says smart he doesn't mean intelligent, he means well-dressed.

  • @yarundaik No way!! I totally missed that!!! I don't think he has anything to worry about however, the suit will always be the attire of the wealthy and of the sophisticated.

  • bow-ties make guys look like clowns, that's why I don't they should not be worn.

  • @krisjonsson Bow ties are cool.

  • ...Why is everyone taking this so seriously...?

  • Notice the member of annonymous in the back at 1:50

  • I think David Mitchell may be a closet fascist. In which case, I make a rare exception in his favour for fascism to make a sparkling return.

  • David Mitchell for James Bond!

  • That's why I just rock a white-T..

  • A working class place I worked at, well they are all working class because I'm working class but anyway, they had a ball and hired tuxes for the men and gowns for the ladies. Looked like a doormans convention.

  • I'm not sure how I am a fan of both him and Noel Fielding...

  • @FrancesBaconandEggs the whole way through i was thinking but if noel wasnt dressed a bit to much like a woman how would everyone know how wierd he is. normal people might start talking to him thinking he thinks as they do because everyone looks the same...

  • David MItchell is my perfect man.

  • (i think he's talking about brain cox)

  • @GeatMaster *brian

  • @GeatMaster Thank Heaven for that! I quake at the thought of what a brain cock is!

  • You can wear black tie attire as much as you want, but in trying to conceal your nature as sheep you just turn into penguins. Congratulations.

*walks off dressed like Integra Hellsing with a tailcoat*

  • oooo garth stealing peoples lunches

  • all you stop acting all phallus-y, becuase this is meant to be comedic fallacy.

  • David reminds me how bloody good it is to be a guy. So much easier than being a chick.

  • He looks like Al Gore in the picture at the beginning.

  • david i like you alot but you are NOT complete without robert , your 2 complete each other to be honest

  • Note to self. Don't read comments until the video is over. It only spoils the jokes.

  • But when women want to look unusually smart, they have more of a choice, with men it's black tie or a whole lot of money.

  • @whowantsabighug I'm fine with that. I prefer not having to think about what i'm wearing. ;)

  • Please be kind to each other.

  • you know what grinds my gears?

  • @Technodreamer Throw your self off a cliff you cunt.

  • @The1stPoster You first, putz. Try putting something relevant in your next comment, once you get done sucking your father's dick.

  • @Technodreamer "putz"?... are you from a 50's cartoon?

  • He acts as if he's not handsome himself! He's really very cute.

  • He's right, black tie is great - put it on and fuck it you're done!

  • lol very funny

  • David Mitchell reminds me of me. But smarter.

  • @Bakahashiyo his closing line was beautiful.

  • I love a brilliantly constructive rant like this one, awesome!

  • I can imagine David Mitchell sitting in the corner of a trendy nightclub, glowering at all the unusually dressed celebrities and muttering to himself 'idiots...fools...'

  • @videogamenostalgia I'd have trouble imagining him in a nightclub in the first place... maybe standing in the pouring rain, staring at them through the window or something. =3

  • @RoswelliVideos Yeah - he's done a video about his feelings on Nightclubs too :)

  • IQ correlates to height.

  • @IoEstasCedonta tell that to hawkins

  • @IoEstasCedonta no it doesn't

  • I love David Mitchell. Seriously. He's awesome

  • have a heart and put on a dickie bow! I LOVE YOU DAVID MITCHELL!

  • wow . . . that netflix ad actually entertained me. if all adverts were like that, id watch more tv

  • You don't need to look unusually smart. We all know that you ARE unusually smart.

  • I want this man as my English teacher

  • The end was win.

  • Cowards! Express yourselves! If you've got no imagination, the world should know

  • I find his faux reactionism unhelpful.

  • @Zarathustra06 I find your vaguely superior attitude, rebel without a clue mindset, lack of a sense of humour and inability to grasp the concept of irony, somewhat wearing... :P

  • @Codex7777 I can assure you, Codex, my sense of my own superiority is anything but vague. You're welcome to find pseudo-indignation bro-humour hijacked for the purposes of (self-conscious!) marketing humorous; I find it tiresome, because I know that Mitchell is worthy of far wittier, drier, blacker, less thinly-veiled irony. I get the irony. I just wish it were less ironically ironic. Wear that.

  • @Zarathustra06 You are correct. Your 'sense' of superiority is obviously very important to you. It is projected blatantaly, not vaguely. I'd suggest you further feed your 'sense' by posting under YouTube comedy videos, in a pseudo-intellectual, psuedo-indignant manner... but note that you do this already. Shame on you David Mitchell for not consistently satisfying such pseudo-intellectual, egotistical hangups. Your comedy should, henceforth, be centred on this individual's 'needs'.

  • @Codex7777 I didn't finish this. I don't commune with those who can't punctuate correctly.

  • @Zarathustra06 You obviously don't 'commune' with yourself then, ('Communicate' would have been more accurate but I suppose that wouldn't have helped to feed your 'sense' of superiority) as your punctuation has been far from perfect. Then again, I suppose such a focus is an easy 'get out clause' for the pseudo-intellectual. ;)

  • @Zarathustra06 <----------Derp, I read Nietzsche once, derpity derp.

  • @Chefodeath funny

  • @Zarathustra06

Really? I find his "faux reactionism"* endearing. :)

*I just looked "reactionism" up in Collins English dictionary and it is not a word. Please check before using pretentious words to make your point more valid.

  • @Cazzanevo

You need a better dictionary, pal. Reactionism is a noun that refers to 'reactionary principles or practice' and it has been around since 1857. Please check before calling someone out to make your point more valid.

  • @Zarathustra06 ahhh made to look a fool by your own verbosity, now grow up.
