If there are ANY women here who "yearn" for the era when men wore hats and dressed in suits, then shut the fuck up, quit your job, slap on a corset, cook me some dinner, hand in your right to vote and lay on your back and give me some babies..... then raise them.
Doesnt seem so bad that we wear sandals now does it?
@133maxiboy Actually the person who first mentioned "the 60's attire" and men dressing in suits was called "aaronsomething" and probably a guy. In fact it's never even mentioned if the person yearning for the era when men wore hats was a lady or a gentleman, so the "WAH FUCKING WOMEN FUCK YOUR IDEAS HAHAH HOUSEWIFE HOW DOES THAT FEEL" -burst was a bit uncalled for.
Aaaahhhhh I never said "fuck your ideas"... infact I was pretty much having a go at the whole 50's-60's way of life and pointing out that pretty much the ONLY good thing about it for women was the way men dressed. All I was trying to point out is that a LOT of women do look back on those decades as the decades of "Gentlemen" and its really not true. Also you sound butthurt about something.
@133maxiboy Oh I'm not butthurt, and you sure read a lot into the notion that basically said "I wish men dressed like that still", not "I wish everything was like it was in the 50's-60's". And don't know about women, since I still don't know if any women even commented on the matter.
Same to you though, saying "it's not so bad we wear sandals now, is it", when I haven't even seen anyone except David complain about the straying from the tie & suit, it's just been stated it looks better.
I happily continue to wear the classic suit. But then the alternative has one massive shortcoming that keeps too many men from straying outside the norm: being overly fashionable, especially in a very dressy setting, makes you look incredibly gay. It doesn't matter how good you look, the "I like colour a little bit too much" sense of style will always land you on people's gaydar.
It's a shame that people who wear the fedora or trilby nowadays are those acoustic guitar playing arseholes like Bruno Mars who are just trying to "express themselves". Those 10-for-a-penny soft-voiced guys who all play the same instrument, all dress "individually" and all have similar sounding songs (Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran).
Although even then the fedora's just look out of place now, the fedora was never meant to be multi-coloured and worn with a short-sleeved shirt.
@TerraZet hardly washed out. i mean, washed up may have been appropriate if you meant his career was in shambles but even then you'd be wrong. he's hilarious, a proper funny guy
Mr. Mitchell... Look at how worked up you are. You are on your soapbox about losing the ability to not worry about what you wear. Meanwhile you're worrying about what you wear; quite frantically I might add. We in the business call this a paradox and we call you stupid.
@Kabitu1 No need to get nasty. It wasn't you I was criticizing. First: the "business" part was just a little bit of rhetoric- completely unnecessary but I added it because I felt it helped my flow. Second: Yes. Third: Whats not to get? He's upset that some men are stepping it up fashion wise and making all other men who stick to the simple yet classic suit and tie ensemble look bad in comparison. All I'm saying is that by ranting about it he's quite literally contradicting himself.
@Zttbm Maybe thats better than ranting for the sake of it. Besides what's wrong with saying nothing? I'd rather listen to silence than everybody speaking at once.
That being said, why is everybody kissing DM's ass? Its not the hardest thing in the world to rant about shit. Especially when it is a scripted rant that other people helped you write. Do yourself a favor and hop off his cock. That being said, I am not trying to fight with you. So please don't write back angrily.
AND YOU'RE WELCOME. I PRESSED 'LIKE' AND YOU THANKED ME. YOU ARE WELCOME. I ALSO APPRECIATE THE SUGGESTIONS YOU MADE ABOUT FUTURE VIDEOS I WOULD VIEW ON YOUTUBE. THANK YOU
Too much work. I hate dressing up, and suits are too damned hot in any place I've ever been required to wear one. Shirt and jeans for me. Some good ol' chucks, freshly shaved head, and I'm good to go.
but i like wearing a pashmina around my waist as a skirt with long stripey socks a rainbow shirt and a terrorist scarf and eyeliner :(
not because i'm "cool" but to make up for my lack of a personality which my long hair helps me with
i think it's the "ugly" men that are actually cool, they don't need a to wear anything individual to express themselves because they have a personality and intelligence.
For a woman it's almost impossible to include themselves in the ugly category without some hidden agenda - even if it's true! When they do so they hope to get attention and that people disagree and tell them they're actually quite pretty or slim or whatever. When David refers to himself as unattractive or just average, he accepts and isn't bothered by it.
This is why I yearn for the pre-60's era, when the only individuality expressed in a man's attire was the colour of his suit.
I love the suit, I love the trilby; it's uniform, smart and yet expressive in subtle ways like cuffs and patterns on your tie. No one got judged and everyone felt as if they looked there best.
@boydegg I have 3 hats... one of them I wear almost daily. Some other men in my village also where hats. Most probably don't though, so given your post I thought I'd read it at the next gathering in our local community centre.
@KatieFromEngland you don't have to do all that you know you could just leave the house without make-up and just put on the first thing to fall out of the closet..
@IoEstasCedonta I bet your one of those attractive men with your smugness towards appearance and typically stereotypical spanish name. Well stop it or were all doomed!
@IoEstasCedonta fuck you! he looks very handsome, plus he's intelligent, which i find incredibly sexy, and you, judging by your comment are a shallow simpleton wanker. A smartly dressed air headed moron that doesn't even beg to compare with someone like David.
I agree with David when he mentioned how easy we have it as men in comparison to women but i personally love to buy cloths that I feel suit my personality which shifts and changes along with what i wear. currently stuffy really works for me as its easy and i seem to be able to get away with it.
Well it depends on how you think about it. Like How I hate it when my cousin wants to pick out clothes for me cause then I'll end up looking stereotypically "ghetto". Which usually other people to assume I'm sociable, into R&B and Hip hop and such, and speak "black", if you will, when really I'm the complete opposite.

I think men don't look smart when wearing suits. They look like sheep. Smart men wear jumpers with holes, trousers too small, often glasses - these are intelligent men, definitely not the likes of David Mitchell!!!!
@yarundaik No way!! I totally missed that!!! I don't think he has anything to worry about however, the suit will always be the attire of the wealthy and of the sophisticated.
A working class place I worked at, well they are all working class because I'm working class but anyway, they had a ball and hired tuxes for the men and gowns for the ladies. Looked like a doormans convention.
@FrancesBaconandEggs the whole way through i was thinking but if noel wasnt dressed a bit to much like a woman how would everyone know how wierd he is. normal people might start talking to him thinking he thinks as they do because everyone looks the same...
I can imagine David Mitchell sitting in the corner of a trendy nightclub, glowering at all the unusually dressed celebrities and muttering to himself 'idiots...fools...'
@videogamenostalgia I'd have trouble imagining him in a nightclub in the first place... maybe standing in the pouring rain, staring at them through the window or something. =3
@Zarathustra06 I find your vaguely superior attitude, rebel without a clue mindset, lack of a sense of humour and inability to grasp the concept of irony, somewhat wearing... :P
@Codex7777 I can assure you, Codex, my sense of my own superiority is anything but vague. You're welcome to find pseudo-indignation bro-humour hijacked for the purposes of (self-conscious!) marketing humorous; I find it tiresome, because I know that Mitchell is worthy of far wittier, drier, blacker, less thinly-veiled irony. I get the irony. I just wish it were less ironically ironic. Wear that.
@Zarathustra06 You are correct. Your 'sense' of superiority is obviously very important to you. It is projected blatantaly, not vaguely. I'd suggest you further feed your 'sense' by posting under YouTube comedy videos, in a pseudo-intellectual, psuedo-indignant manner... but note that you do this already. Shame on you David Mitchell for not consistently satisfying such pseudo-intellectual, egotistical hangups. Your comedy should, henceforth, be centred on this individual's 'needs'.
@Zarathustra06 You obviously don't 'commune' with yourself then, ('Communicate' would have been more accurate but I suppose that wouldn't have helped to feed your 'sense' of superiority) as your punctuation has been far from perfect. Then again, I suppose such a focus is an easy 'get out clause' for the pseudo-intellectual. ;)
Really? I find his "faux reactionism"* endearing. :)
*I just looked "reactionism" up in Collins English dictionary and it is not a word. Please check before using pretentious words to make your point more valid.
You need a better dictionary, pal. Reactionism is a noun that refers to 'reactionary principles or practice' and it has been around since 1857. Please check before calling someone out to make your point more valid.
What a pointless unfunny rant.

Before I leave the house ever sort:
My hair (up or down, straight or curly, hair acessories or not),
My clothes (long sleeve or short sleeve top, skirt, shorts or jeans, with the first two leggings, tights or none, or maybe a dress?)
My makeup (define eyes or lips, what colour, how much?)
My shoes (boots, converse, flipflops, sandals, wedges, heels or flats?)
My acessories (bags, jewellry, hats, scarves?)
And does it all go together. This is every day. Think yourself lucky, David.

I can imagine David Mitchell sitting in the corner of a trendy nightclub, glowering at all the unusually dressed celebrities and muttering to himself 'idiots...fools...'
videogamenostalgia 9 months ago 133
@videogamenostalgia I'd have trouble imagining him in a nightclub in the first place... maybe standing in the pouring rain, staring at them through the window or something. =3

@RoswelliVideos Yeah - he's done a video about his feelings on Nightclubs too :)

I find his faux reactionism unhelpful.

@Zarathustra06 I find your vaguely superior attitude, rebel without a clue mindset, lack of a sense of humour and inability to grasp the concept of irony, somewhat wearing... :P
Codex7777 10 months ago 2
@Codex7777 I can assure you, Codex, my sense of my own superiority is anything but vague. You're welcome to find pseudo-indignation bro-humour hijacked for the purposes of (self-conscious!) marketing humorous; I find it tiresome, because I know that Mitchell is worthy of far wittier, drier, blacker, less thinly-veiled irony. I get the irony. I just wish it were less ironically ironic. Wear that.
Zarathustra06 10 months ago
@Zarathustra06 You are correct. Your 'sense' of superiority is obviously very important to you. It is projected blatantaly, not vaguely. I'd suggest you further feed your 'sense' by posting under YouTube comedy videos, in a pseudo-intellectual, psuedo-indignant manner... but note that you do this already. Shame on you David Mitchell for not consistently satisfying such pseudo-intellectual, egotistical hangups. Your comedy should, henceforth, be centred on this individual's 'needs'.
Codex7777 10 months ago
@Codex7777 I didn't finish this. I don't commune with those who can't punctuate correctly.
Zarathustra06 10 months ago
@Zarathustra06 You obviously don't 'commune' with yourself then, ('Communicate' would have been more accurate but I suppose that wouldn't have helped to feed your 'sense' of superiority) as your punctuation has been far from perfect. Then again, I suppose such a focus is an easy 'get out clause' for the pseudo-intellectual. ;)

Really? I find his "faux reactionism"* endearing. :)
*I just looked "reactionism" up in Collins English dictionary and it is not a word. Please check before using pretentious words to make your point more valid.
Cazzanevo 10 months ago
@Cazzanevo
You need a better dictionary, pal. Reactionism is a noun that refers to 'reactionary principles or practice' and it has been around since 1857. Please check before calling someone out to make your point more valid.
