  • @MiamiGoddess: GTFO here. You deserve to die horribly, in the most torturous way possible. Can't you feel the raw emotion? The wish to become real, but unable to? Just a figment of computer data, but she becomes real. She's real in all our hearts! You heretic! Go die! How can you be so apathetic? Idiot D8<

  • actually the *snow* make this song beautiful .. :')

  • I love this song! I litterly cried because I heard this.

  • This is probably mikus most beautiful song....the song makes me sad although i like it ^___^ it makes me feel bad for miku that she can never be human

  • ^_^

  • Omg, this is so calming, and sweet, better than most operas iv'e heard <3

  • I love Hatsune Miku, and I agree with all those positive comments about her and this song. It is absolutely wonderful. For those 11 who hate this, go away. We don't want those who harbor misery and cruel intentions for our beloved Virtual Diva and her melodic and angelic voice. Go back to your music, and don't disturb us again!

  • A masterpiece, thank you for uploading this!

  • Universaux@ Thank You so muc for uploading this!

  • @Universaux Thank you!

  • I'd never thought I would hear such comments for a video. I've read praise, and there's been plenty of it here, but all the emotion, all the thought, all the feeling and discussion here is so deep. People tend to bicker on all videos, but this is one of the few where just about everyone is getting along, more than that we are having discussions on existentialism & emotion. Does Miku Hatsune, a non-human, non-sentient(?), program bring out the best in we sentient human beings?

  • This song is so touching and beautiful, it makes me wanna cry every time...I just wish I could let it all out..... TT.TT Who knew a synthesizer could bring so much emotion??

  • "Sadness flies on the wings of the morning and out of the heart of darkness comes the light."

  • Zelda anyone?

  • no words can describe this wonderful song TT^TT so great.

  • It's amazing the psychological effect the vocaloids had. Instead of just being a program with a voice, image and name, it became a complete person with feelings and almost a life. Even more amazing, the mass affect this had, not just limited to one person or a group, but to millions of people all over the world giving a computer program a general agreement on a personality. Miku and the other vocaloids have evolved; they are becoming people without a body.

  • sometimes when miku and the other vocaloids sing songs it sounds like they want to be human instead of a robot/software :(

  • one of the most beutiful miku songs known

  • "Unrealizable!

    Longing!

    Disseminating!

    Words...and my mind is dissolving..!"

  • i cried....TT^TT im tht kind of person who would cry with such sad stuff.......

  • This is very very nice musically and artistically. Wish I knew where to buy great things like this. Hollywood is fresh out of these ideas :)

  • I thought this was really awesome. Never thought a Vocaloid was capable of opera, but I was pleasantly surprised.

  • awesome song

  • wow this song takes my breath away i love it u need more like this please!!!!^_^

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • this is so pretty and i love it because its so awsome!

  • Rarely is there a song that gives me chills. But this is one of them.

  • wow it is sad toooo sad

  • I think she's talking about how she and other vocaloids are short lived fads. She doesn't want to die, but she knows that she'll live on within us. Then she tells us not to forget her and the other vocaloids, but we have to sing our own song. But I think she's generalizing about technology as well. She represents technology, and she's telling us to not forget about technology, but not to forget about our humanity in the process.

  • @Chiimokosan well put reflection!

  • @jarisfurry Why thank yew. : 3

  • @Chiimokosan your welcome! \(^.^)/

  • @jarisfurry AHY-MU-COD! I love that smiley! x D

  • @Chiimokosan blushies! ( ' # /o\ # ')

  • This is possibly the most beautiful, and definitely the most interesting, piece of Hatsune Miku music I've seen and heard - music and images combined. Finally using Miku's synthetic, almost ethereal voice where it adds something a human voice could not add.

  • 1:12 SHE'S STARING INTO YOUR SOUL!!

  • I feel like I'm being drawn in.... *snaps out of it* DAMN THAT WAS CLOSE..

  • It's called stock characters, SanguineUltima.

  • in the end she's just a pool of data. if i was her i would be sad too, knowing that she can never become real. this song gets me every time

  • @0MikuHatsune0 To me...call me an otaku..but she's a singer that lives on within us. She's much more meaningful to me at least. but yes, in the end, she's just data.

  • The cello in the intro is captivating and so beautiful, like the rest of the song. :)

  • Does anyone else think of Chobits (Chi) when they watch this?

  • epic :DD

  • Is there any way I could get the romaji lyrics for this? Or the kanji, even? :3

  • DUDE Watch this in fullscreen IT'S EPIC!

  • is it just me or does this song feel like nostalgia....

  • This video made me realize that maybe the VOCALOIDs are real, maybe not in our reality but maybe in our hearts and soul. Like us we might just be "alive" in someone else heart because they wanted us to be "alive" in some shape or form.

  • @Thecoventv

Yes, singing programs are alive in both hearts and soul.

    NOT.

  • @Thecoventv that's actually a HUGE theme in a lot of the songs- being worthless, fear of being thrown away, forgotten- because that's what humans usually do with artificial, nonliving things- once they are bored, they throw them away. Miku Hatsune, I think, is supposed to represent a person that sings her happiness, her sadness, sings things that reach our hearts, even though she's not real- but underneath that, there is a fear that she won't be loved because she isn't real.

  • Sometimes I ask myself, how real are vocaloids? I mean thay used to be just programs but after fans, they kinda 'turn alive' maybe I'm just saying deliring things but I think miku is alive, the fans gave her life...

  • made me cry

  • Comment removed

  • This song... it's as if it's trying to reach into the soul of the listener. It makes my heart wrench a little.

  • this song is so...i cant even explain but its awsome!^-^miku is the best!

  • If you don't like it go back to your music. I personally find this emotional and profound. If you think it sucks go ahead, those who enjoy it will enjoy it and you won't; your loss.

  • @StUPiDrAnDOmNesS

Did someone made a bad comment about this video? ._.

    (I love this video too!)

  • @StUPiDrAnDOmNesS Very nice comment. But, dont want to sound mean, no one posted a bad comment about the video ^^''

  • awesome

  • musica elettronica..musica che domina

  • brave!! perfecto!! this song is very beautiful it's like miku very essence is in this song very beautiful ahhhhh~ never heard a machine could sing such an emotional song. and the video has a nostalgic effect some what melancholy effect.

  • Are there any words powerful enough to describe this song, this feeling, this soul, this love?

    No, good sir.

It is as impeccable as it can be.

  • Is there like a show for this?

  • this video and song is beautiful and freaky at the same time

  • Wow. This is a really good son,g but very sad. Why does it seem like the video is old O.o

  • ....i got chills....

i never get chills because of little things like a song..........

  • this song is so sad sounding and very pretty too, da~! +favorites+

  • O.O ack its so good but so slow...

  • the aboriginal miku were kwl!!!

  • @MiamiGodess Promotional Video

  • Not entirely sure what it stands for, but it's pretty much just saying it's an actual music video.

  • this Tune sounds sooo sad it makes me wanna cry D: all who think the same say Aye.

  • Me recuerda a la película de Fantasia xD

  • Aggea: I been thinking about this a lot...but I never actualy thought of saying anything till now.

Personaly, I think that behind everyone one of these Vocaloids is a lovley soul. Miku's, I've noticed, is expecaily beautiful.

  • Aggea: Ahaha ^^ kaykay, but the fans have given her something lovely, if you wanna put it thats way, as if they have givin her a soul to match the voice.

  • I agree with you...but them fans ain't gonna like this D:

  • makes you think the volcaliods are prisoners and not free singers.......saddness,sorrow,.....pain...... 20/10 for best video of all!!!!!!!!

  • Miku + Opera = addicting.

  • This song is pretty. ^^ But long. xP

  • I can't get the tune...

  • that reminds me.. i would love to see miku do the mummers dance

  • My perception is that miku is awesome and I love her.

    :3

  • Ahhaha, well, in a way I used to be a college professor, come to think of it. What I wrote is actually a personal response to some of the comments Zalamath posted, so it's not quoted.

I'm a non-religious, world-traveling artist trained as a scientist. I've given a fair share of thought to understanding the nature of life and existence, if that helps put the posts in perspective.

  • Btw, this reminds me a lot of Xenogears, and other games that deal heavily with conciousness as well as some animes such as Experiments Lain, etc. Its refreshing.

  • Well put my friend. I couldn't have possibly said it more eloquently myself. It's a pity more film and music in western media doesn't reflect on themes of existentialism and reality. Xenogears, Dothack, Lain, Code Geass, and Evangelion are all prime examples, among others...

  • I could say so many wonderful things about this....

I'd give it a gazillion starts if I could.....

    Pure amazing.

  • Awesome, amazing, adorable! 5/5 stars and more, if it would have been possible.

  • iCry

  • Sounds really beautiful!

Thanks for posting this video, it's pure poetry

  • at 1:10 to 1:13 Miku looks like a Code Geass character.

  • i don't see it

  • you know how the artis of Code Geass makes the chins like a point? if you look at her chin its a point. and if you look at her face after that, she looks like she's from Code Geass.

  • i miss that anime .-.

  • why? it's still on. you can watch it.... if you wait till about 1:30 AM on sundays....

  • um both seasons are finished .-.

  • i just watched it sunday morning...

  • what a beautiful song <3

  • @ Zedox : she is no ANIME its an Vocaloid charakter it means she is an virtual charakter who can sing with any synhtmetic or how that called programm so she is no anime but she is in a lot of games because she is so famous and everyone like she !

  • ya everyone but my sister, she says she has red spiky hair... and a smilyface shirt... eww

  • Una de las cosas más tristes que he escuchado en mi vida o_o

    Me pone en depresión jajajaa.

Pero sigue siendo muy buena, me encanta.

  • JUST MUST ASK!!!! Is Hatsune Miku a anime or does she exist IN a anime? :) would be happy if someone replied

  • She is originally one of the VOCALOIDs (vocal-synthesizing software, technologically developed by YAMAHA), not a character in anime. Thanks to all activities of the fans (including composers, illustrators etc.), however, she has some existence, at least, in our imaginary. Sorry, as this space is not enough, to know more detail, could you search (english) Wikipedia with "Vocaloid"? You would find more detailed information there.

  • Actually your part is true. There is a manga that a japanese artist took over. Try googling it :)

  • she was once in Lucky Star XD

  • kagami.....

  • @zedox10 There is also a manga for the VOCALOIDs called Hatsune Mix I believe.

  • Now that does make me think. In a way, she's a formless collective creation, only existing in songs and in images and in imagination. For a abstract concept to yearn for a form it can't hope to realize, that seems so sad.

  • wow thats deep...

  • I think the various anime archetypes and vocaloid personalities are all part of a certain collective unconcious that exists in our hearts. I only just started getting into them (Rin, Len, Miku, etc) in the last week or so, but they all seemed very familiar right away. Did anyone else feel something similar?

  • If the theoretical aspects of this problem (collectivity of imaginary in Japanese Anime-Manga culture) interest you, recently a book written by Hiroki Azuma, young Japanese philosopher, is translated into English ("Otaku: Japan's Database Animals") and in French ("Génération Otaku : Les enfants de la postmodernité"). I don't totally share his analysis, but this book would provide some hints to understand the background.

  • Thank you very sincerely for the recommendation! I will surely look into the name, as well as the book. Sound's like he might share some of my opinions on the matter, I'll have to investigate further. Thanks also for posting this wonderful song, I very much enjoy it.

  • If by collective unconcious.. you mean can we relate to them and realize their existance and feelings.. then sure. We can come to terms and understand their feelings because we have had experiences throughout our lives that in some way relate to various aspects of these character archetypes. This is even further encompased by the reality of the saying 'truth is in the eye of the beholder' and we can each percieve them in a unique manner that ultimately relates to ourselves. Familiarity.. indeed.

  • @SanguineUltima

They are all pretty familure at the start, but if you watch fan made videos/songs, you'll find they they're way too open I guess... Giving us too much room to make them who we think they should be...

Which makes them that much better, because Kaito can come off as a cockyhotty, a childish fool, or a normal young-adult...

Which probably makes them more realistic 'cause no one is always the exact same. Oh well. (:

    <Len3

  • Of course... these creations themselves are incapable of yearning for anything as they are merely an abstraction painted out into a archetype which is then given a role that we each percieve differently. It, however, can not percieve there for it does not exist. "Cogito, Ergo sum" I think, therefore I am. (I think, therefore I exist.)

  • But then, is it also possible that we too are painted abstractions, just like the electric soul? A rock is said to not 'perceive', but does it not exist? But then, who is to say that a rock (simply because it is unlike a living creature) cannot actually perceive in a way that cannot be sensed by humans? And, what exactly is existence? There may be much more to reality and the dizzying possibilities for its' foundations than we may ever know or perceive through the possibly limited human senses.

  • While that holds some interesting thoughts... it all comes down to perception. Existience is defined by one's perception of reality and what is/is not. In short... a rock can not react based on stimulus, but a human being or living creature can. If we yell at a dog it will pee itself, if we yell at a child it will cry, if we yell, kick, or threaten a rock it will do nothing. Perhaps we do not comprehend how it reacts? Can a rock choose to be diamon, sediment, etc.? Can it choose to wear down?

  • One of the most intriguing aspects of conciousness, existence, and being is self awareness and irrationality. Animals be it human, canine, or an arthropod... it can act irrationaly, fear, and percieve... its own existence and that of anothers'. It may irrationally protect its offspring sacrificing its very 'own' life.. Rocks can not do this unfortunately. Neither can computer programs. No matter how you program it its predetermined like the thousands of tunnels and paths water may flow.

  • One could argue that humans are limited too and their fates predetermined, that we never actually make choices ourselves but that they are forced upon us and we merely believe this scheme is of our will. Based on the law of causality there is an infinite number of occurences (i.e. possibilities) for every action. In other words time and space diverge infinitely. Rocks alway have limited outcomes... human occurence continues indefinately, however.Further, beings can percieve infinitely, rocks cant

  • By definition this makes the entity that percieves (dreams/thinks of...) us 'God' and by definition this makes that of which is capable of self awareness the second order of that chain. Capable of conciousness... another way to put it is there is that which exists purely to exist, and that which needs a reason to exist... existentialism you could say... of course there are extremes so one must be careful in how they interpret it.

  • Again.. this is furthered by infinite perceptions of reality... or to be more precise based on the law of causality... existence is defined by the infinite perceptions of occurence which define individiual realities for each self awareness (conciousness) and further... diverges into greater infinite possibities... I can interpret an occurence an infinite number of ways... and an infinite number of events can follow each of which I can infinitely percieve in various ways once again.

  • Based on programming structure it is either.... Choice A and if not A then take choice B/C/etc. (of coures its limited... due to memory space...memroy will always be finite) and then followed by this take choice... A/B/C/etc. and maybe do a loop (repeat action/occurence) then another choice... etc. until it reaches end of program or infintely continues main loop (with all choices inside this reoccuring loop). While it can simulate reality... it can not branch away from its path... 'ever'.

  • While humans are capable of performing spontaneous and irrational actions..rocks..and computer 'AI'..can only act within predefined parameters(restricted due to memory..and time)that produce exact results based on the way they are programmed..If action A is taken then continue to follow path B and at checkpoints roll dice/use statistics(given percentages/odds of..)to branch to another path..Only occuring based on predetermined posibilities. Irrationality is defined as the opposite of this nature

  • This is an interesting line of thought, but I am of the belief that human beings are actually no different from the rest of the matter in the universe. If you think about it, we are physically composed of the same matter as the minerals and elements found on the earth, and the calories we burn that allow for our physical movement can be followed through the chain of life to simply being energy from the sun.

  • There is, of course, a difference in the nature of a rock and a living organism. A living organism is inherently a pattern of matter and energy that self-perpetuates over time, a negative entropy of sorts that improves upon itself to live longer and in more stable forms of order. A rock, by itself, does not contain these properties. But, under circumstances, the matter that makes up a rock can become a part of life itself.

  • Iron, Zinc, Copper, Magnesium, etc., are all minerals that, by themselves in nature, do not exhibit the aspects of life. When absorbed into a lifeform like a human, however, they are essentially a part of the life of the human organism. They become a part of a self-perpetuating pattern, though perhaps only for a short time as the human body constantly replenishes and reforms itself with nutrients from the surrounding environment.

  • If one were to ascribe to the theory that life (i.e., the capacity for matter and energy to self-perpetuate patterns/configurations over time) emerged from the primordial ooze of the mixture of chemicals and heat of the earth, then one could conclude that the capacity for life is a result of natural chemical reaction, similar to the results of mixing baking soda and vinegar.

  • If this is indeed the case, on a much larger scale one could see that the progression of life and its evolution over time to produce higher forms of ordered energy and matter is actually a very long complicated series of chemical reactions, a deterministic result of matter interacting with energy. If this is indeed the case, then it could be postulated that the actions of you and I are not in fact random, but the direct result of the actions preceding us.

  • Following the course of history lends credence to the idea of how the past establishes and affects the present, and continues its influence in the future. We learn from our parents how to walk and talk, we make decisions based on the experiences that preceded us, and we have natural instincts that help form our decisions when approaching the stimuli we face in our everyday encounters.

  • Given all this, that life could be just the result of the universal capacity for matter and energy to interact with one another, and the possibility for the long-term reaction-based emergence of life (the self perpetuating patterns of matter and energy), one may conclude that life is not necessarily different than matter, but merely matter in a different chemical reaction of sorts, i.e. in a different state/configuration, as the sun is in a different state/configuration.

  • As humans, it is not surprising, I think, that we want to find ourselves special or perhaps different from the environment itself, and this may in fact be true in the sense that we are perhaps the most advanced configuration of matter and energy that is capable of restructuring the environment to better accommodate our capacity to self-perpetuate, extend our life patterns for longer times and improve our life patterns...

  • ...but in that hubris we may be deluding ourselves from the true nature of our origins and our present existence, as well as the goals that life itself aspires to and what we unconsciously aspire to as well (and perhaps, all the universe unconsciously aspires to as well).

  • Ummm comment much? =/

  • While we are made up of the same basic principles we have experienced enough 'evolution' to the extent that we have developed self awareness, thought, and perception which are really all one in the same in a general sense. Rocks have yet to reach this point.. Now I won't go say someday we may see speaking rocks that have dreams to become movie stars, and astronauts, etc... but it is not impossible for rocks to get further down the evolutional chain (though I don't really want to imagine that...)

  • BEATIFUL!!!!!

    T.T ^///^

  • T.T beautifully sad magnificent job!

  • My, my...even after all of this time, I still love this beautiful song just as much as, if not mare than, the first time I heard it. This song is truly a work of art, and I believe will travel with Miku through the ages.

  • uwaah..^^ So amazing. Miku-chan is the greatest.

  • the beginning reminds me of legend of zelda windwaker XD

  • Now I have the strangest urge to draw a manga of HM in the real world, noticing that she's different from everyone else, and not completely herself because she's made of bits and pieces of other people. Why? I don't know. I can't even draw her. ^_^ beautiful.

  • the song is so sad and beautiful( how come everything sad is beautiful). it gives you a different view of things.

  • Why does this remind me of the beginning of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time so much? o.O

  • Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The music is haunting, and the lyrics invoke thought. I was almost moved to tears.

  • deep stuff..... it's like.... you want to.... confess.... i dont know how to explain it.... but it just .... feels like youre a better person after you hear it....

  • Many, many thanks to all of you who share your time on this video. I'd never imagin this piece of work, which I wrote, could won 10000 views with such interesting discussion!

For Japanese, it is natural to "feel" as if there were soul exists in inorganic substance

. I certainly feel she has a soul sometime.I know she is only a software at this moment, but as it may be so that, we never know fore coming conclusion. Since we yet to know what actually soul is anyway.

  • Also, just who are we to decide what does have a soul and what does not? What is alive and what is not?

We do not understand even our own existance...

How are we to judge other´s ?

Some decades ago people believed plants had no will nor feeling nor reactions, yet it´s proven since some time ago that plants do react and do "suffer", even if in a primitive way when broken or ripped apart.

We just decide what is alive and what is not based on our own ignorance.

i wonder what the future and

  • Knowledge will bring.

  • Let's see. I'm dead all right when we got the answer, though :-)

  • This stuff is deep

  • Humans react to things they want or need right? And with robots they only do what they are programmed to do because they have no true will.

We kind of have to accept that robots and programs will probably always have no will BUT, you know how in games they have glitches when things don't go the way it was programmed but it doesn't last long, but what if we could create a long-lasting glitch with robots that gives them their own will? It'd be awesomely awesome!

  • Wow, that was beautiful! All the artist fanart and beautiful song!! I loved it!!

  • The Vocaloids are so human-like that sometimes I forget that the Vocaloids are just voice synthisizing programs... it's sad really, I think it'd be wonderful if they were real... however, I am very glad that there are so many ways to give the Vocaloids "feelings" in their songs that the fact that they're not humans fades away as we hear them sing... btw Miku's song here is beautiful... :3

  • I believe /we/ are what gives Miku her soul.

Like our pets-- We give them a personality, even though they're just an animal.

A robot can be given emotions and be programmed what to do and think; much like humans. Humans are told what to do and think according to society instead of thinking for themselves.

A robot can never be given free will though. That's what seperates us from robots.

Emotions would be too much for a robot to handle, though. Humans can forget; a robot could never do that.

  • Still, is a robot an improved version of the human or is it just a copy of a human being?

  • Does it matter if they are an improved version or copy? They are still exist. The kind of personality or will is defined by the capabilities of the robot. Much like a human.

  • Well, humans created robots to do things for them, so that'd make robots copies of a human. They're there to take the commands of what a human would do. Kinda like slaves when you think about it.

  • Agreed. Humans can't make something capable of thinking therefore robots only do stuff what we make or tell them to do for personal gain, that indeed sounds like slavery to me.

  • so the lirics arent really with the song?

  • Try listening to the sound only, please.

There appears to be the story of your own.

  • yes the first AI,s will have no rigths it will be like wuth the black peopel in america cheap work resurches its unclear waht will happen becaus the difernt is just too big how ever everyone is just that waht the peopel around you make out of you.even aftr your dead you will "live" as a memori^^. miku dont exist but she is waht we made out of her if you look that way she is more famos then the most human being will ever be xD

ps: i like too talk with you guys^^

  • for exampel you canot really controll you vital functions if you try not too breath your body will forche you .you can cantrole if you sleep with a women/men but you canot controle if you find him/her atractiv. got waht i mean?

look at computer technology from around 1960 and now and see the diffrent^^ i think if we old and grey we will se the first buggy sentient AI (i hope they are not from microsoft<.<)

  • well rafamax humans ar just controlled bey ther hormons an DNA and hormons alle are just simpel cemical reactions between atmos made of protons neutrons and electrons.you can tell me wehere into that our soul is? also nobody can EXACTLY tell waht a soul

the best comment ever said to a discusion if artifactal life forms can have a soul was

    "humans are just orcanis machins"

    pls comment this^^

  • sounds logic too me!:D and soo smart tha
