Man, I love Bebe...just not as Velma:( But her voice is as beautiful as she is and that's clearly shown in other roles she plays...shame about this bad fit. Though, before you give up on her, I would suggest watching her in the Addams Family Musical as Mortisha, really show cases her talent and voice!!!
@ anyone who compared this to the movie- YOU CAN'T COMPARE LIVE THEATRE TO A MOVIE voice are dubbed dances done by others ex. Jennifer beals in flashdance broadway is LIVE there are no retakes & Rosies stage was alot smaller them the 1 Bebe danced on when she was Velma on Broadway
@cnmn... she's admitted in many different interviews etc. that she's really, really, painfully shy... so she's obviously not going to be overtly friendly...
first of all she got a tony for this!!! so i think she has proved that she is better than anyone criticizing her and Zeta jones danced in a movie which cannot be compared to live performance so unless she has done it live then we can't compare
Ann Reinking was the best dancer in this role, and also sings far better than Bebe. Bebe's legs are rather gangly and awkward, and her vocals for this song are lacking. I know she is a better performer than this.
@cnmn wrote "remarried to quite an amazing person so he has no need to speak negatively of Bebe"
Being remarried to a nice person has no bearing on ill will from a previous marriage, I've met Bebe 8-10 times because my ex worked on her cabaret show. She was warm and friendly, as much as anyone can be to a semi-stranger. She remembered my name and asked about my sick cat. My ex said that the crew liked her a lot. She also spent a lot of time with fans. Perhaps it was just you.
I LOVE her singing but the dancing that ms. zeta jones did was more entertaining and sexual. But bebe has a realistic 20s smokey voice it makes u feel like u time traveled :)
@cnmn well if you are going to interact with her "ex-husband" then of course you are going to hear that she's a cold person. "Ex's" are not the people to base that on. The actress herself has admitted that she is shy in social situations and not the best social interactor. While you might be led to believe that she is cold, I have talked with numerous people that say she is really a sweet nice person. And she treats her fans kindly too.
@cnmn I've met her, too, several years ago on "Cheers" - she was one of the few cast members at that time to actually speak to and be nice to a new crew member. George Wendt (Norm) and Rhea Perlman (Carla) were awful. But I wouldn't even be willing to say of them that they are "cold, cold people" based on just a handful of incidents.
@keepurpwsoffmyundrwr of corse people always sound better recored cuz just like hollywood photots they are touched up i perfere the bradway version paersonally and really hope to see it live someday
Like many have written, I also appreciate Neuwirth's talents. And Fosse is the BEST. But Neuwirth is a million miles beyond awful in this number. It's so over her head. As far as the Fosse flicking goes, Reinking wipes the floor with Neuwirth, for good and all. And her Bebe's voice is enough to make anyone stick pencils in their ears....
@Liamiswaynotcool i hope so! i heard two songs of the new show and i love it. the addams family was a great tv show. i hope the audience will love this show too.
i've already heard some of the songs..Bebe is stunning as usual, as is the rest of the cast! I am so excited. If the show doesn't win a tony i will be very surprised.
I find her voice quite dry and her changes of tone from one phrase to another strange. Also, what is so special about the word "piano" that she sings it like she's clearing her throat?
YouTube is great for ignorant boneheads like me. I didn't realize the lady that played Lilith was so talented. I do remember she was always a great scene stealer when she was on Cheers.
I wish she were a hint raunchier. This is about jazz and rebellion. She kind of just stands there.... she needs the movement and coordination to match her perfect voice.
If you know Fosse at all, you would know that the choreography was intended this way. Watch other videos of ''All That Jazz.'' This is not supposed to be some big, flashy number with people moving all over the place. It is stylish, sexy and minimalistic. Fosse's choreography is specific and simple; his signature dance moves including a sideways shuffle and rolled shoulders. Bebe is brilliant in this number.
I know a lot of people make fun of her, but does this make anyone else miss the Rosie O' Donnell show? I know it exposed me to a lot of Broadway for the first time, e.g. RENT!
@strangelitlgrl I know what you mean...... Rosie introduced me to so many Broadway shows......and thanks to Rosie, I bought the soundtract and saw the show when it came around. I miss Rosie.

Why do people rate this woman. She does the choreography in a coldy efficient way and her singing is totally unremarkable. Sometimes she sounds like she is clearing phlegm fromm her throat . Piaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanaaaaaaaahhhhhhcrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
This production, choreographed in the style of Fosse by Ann Reinking, was intended to be minimalistic - no big garish costumes nor big fancy scenery. The clear focus is on the performances by all. Look at her legs, look at her hips, her hands, her shoulders... her boobs, her toes! She owns this ... like no other performer.

She was awful as Roxie, but beyond brilliant as velma (which is this clip). Funny, how one can be just as talented but terribly miscast.
