OH THIS IS EXCELLENT! the music and dance, its the best Barynya version.
These people should have represented Russia in the Eurovision song contest 2009 in Moscow.Because it was the worst Eurovision ! Every Country was rubbish. Sorry I love you Russia. You should have used the Excellent Barynya, and it would have wiped the floor, it would be greater than River Dance!
Well, you've got one sitting here that does love the music and tradition, and encourages it. From Garmon to plyaska, everything I love about it. And I think there are numerous other people like me. Altough you are right about the younger generation. A pity about them...
The love for traditional music, dances, ... is th e most natural one, and will therefore survive!
Where techno comes and goes, traditional music stays forever! No wonder, cause it contains so much about life.
Even now my heart beats to different types of folk music, it connects us with the rhythm and soul of life.
Happiness and sorrow are all expressed in the most natural way. I hope techno and all types of robotic, mechanical, industrialised music fades and the healing folk music will come back .
Fine dance, fascinating tradition. I have only one question, are those dancers professionals or amateurs? Tradition cannot walk with professionals but has to return to the people, who created it and wishes to deliver it to the next generation.
"Barynya is a fast Russian folk dance and music. The word BARYNYA (Russian: Барыня, landlady) was used by simple folk as a form of addressing to a woman of higher class."
I suspect that it's a very old word. It's not even in my EN-RU dictionary!
it has different meanings. one of having high class, one that does not like to dirty her hands, acts like a princes etc, etc. i heard this from many of my russian friends and relatives. i do not think they are wrong.
Just got the opportunity to see this group last night in Jackson, OH, and we all loved it. It's so much better live. Incredibly talented people and very entertaining show. Hope to see them again.

Most excellent performance!
I really love it.
But, Russian traditions are being forgotten quickly, the younger generation think its old fashion, and listen to mindless techno.
it will be a very sad thing if that happens, because Russian Folk culture and music ROCKS!

clarajanny 3 years ago 3
I absolutely agree, FOLKLORE STOPS HATRED,and thats because it is natural music, music that is not affected, and has no negative effects.
I AM SO happy, you are A person whose heart is true, and I hope there are many like you.

i was told that BARYNYA could also mean a young girl that wants to be a queen, or acts like a queen. different part of russia, different meaning.
hevidt 4 years ago
You're misinformed.Barynya is a wife of
a landlord (a landlady). But recently the word is usually used as an irony addressed whether to a capricious girl or a women.
For example you may say:" Look at her.She
behaves like Barynya"

The word has only one meaning. But when you apply the word to any
girl, you do that as irony;for instance," listen girl, you're not Barynya,
eat what I give you" or " What do you think? You are Barynya? Go
and earn money yourself,bitch!"
NewShekel 3 years ago
On the other hand, if a man loves a woman,he
can call her Barynya as in the dance. And this means,
you are so pretty like Barynya ( but a man may call his
women a red,red,rose(or a goddess ) but a women isn't a rose or a goddess.Right?)

I couldn't help tapping my foot while hearing this. Nicely done!
