I dont get it why does mario not just stop the gumbas instead of watching them and why does he turn into a ball to save her cant he just run through each stage and quickly get it over with.

Think about it, Peach was already a Ball, and the cannon was lit. She could have bounced all over the place. But I do agree, Mario wasted his time.
