I swear, this song makes me cry every time I hear it. This was the second saddest time in Elvis' life. Had to truly have been very very difficult for him to record. It's hard for me to listen, and with a touch of my own personal life in times. Miss you E!!!
God I absolutely love that smile at :31....when he looks over at his amazing friend J.D. (the master of "low") That smile said "I nailed it this time." I have seen his previous attempt and it was not nearly as good as this one. Brilliant and amazing...and always a joy to see that man smile... just wish he smiled even more and for many many more years...
watch 0.35 I'd say his Bass backing singer was coaching him through this part of the song! He watched EP until that note was sung and they exchange a smile! Shows how much this genius was loved by his associates!! great moment!!

Just learned that Red West wrote this song for Elvis, but Elvis didn't record it until after he and Priscilla divorced. Jerry Schilling was there during the recording and talks about it in his book. Amazing book by the way. Great song!
